I don't care if it makes it a home final for Stars, its insane not to play this at Marvel.

How would the Sixers feel? They earnt the home final. Marvel isn’t neutral jeez it’s in Melbourne.

Adelaide is neutral.

Stars only finished half a game ahead of Sydney. Losing the first final fairly makes the Sixers the number 1 ranked team.
still finished top and most of their losses came once top spot was secured.

what sort of finals system allows for rain to dictate the winner with no opportunity to replay the game?

furthermore what system allows the team who finished top to lose one finals game and be denied the opportunity for redemption?

Tomorrow is just as bad- it’s actually worse tomorrow. They should have played it this afternoon and they’d have got a game (reduces) but C7 dictate that.

It’s hailing now lol

The decision not to move the game elsewhere is completely baffling. They said it was because Sydney deserved a home final but I think playing the match should take precedent over which change rooms you get to sit in while the rain is falling.

What is also baffling is the amount of people defending this rule. It's a complete utensil up, and I don't understand how anyone can defend Sydney being handed the trophy without playing the game.

Just can't be done at such short notice. All of the things that go into organising a match, from ordering the pies and hot-dogs to security, parking attendants, ticket sales etc. You just can't expect to make the call on Wednesday or Thursday before a match on Saturday. Unless you want to pay people to be on stand-by. CA doesn't have unlimited money.

i think a final at a neutral venue would be a complete fizzer anyway. Nobody would show up in Perth or Adelaide to watch a Melbourne vs Sydney final. It would be dull. Unless you made it free, but that would cost CA big dollars and they don't have unlimited money.

Maybe just make it so it's like soccer so that the team that finishes first in the H@A gets the trophy. Any finals system is simply just unfair for the Stars because they are natural chokers.

The rain just saves the chokers from yet another choke

Still lol at the Thunder having more titles

Lol

They said they brought in this finals system as to not did disadvantage teams who perform better over the course of the (long) season yet here we are. The Stars despite finishing clearly top had one bad game and because of that one bad game will not have a chance to win the title. They have been better than Sydney over the course of the season and have been punished for losing one 20/20 game. It’s not fair to Melbourne if the game is washed out and again brings questions about the integrity of league position.
Haha no.

The tournament owed the Stars nothing more than a direct route to the GF, which they blew. Sixers deserve the trophy if it's washed out.

you just know that if this was the other way around, we wouldn't be hearing a fair few of these complaints

At least it's still a night game (well, would've been).

Channel 10 forced the final into a time slot that was just awkward
Last season was the same thing, and that was with 7.

Would you be saying that if West Coast lost a home QF to a Melbourne team and then won their way through to the GF after winning a semi final and prelim to face that same Melbourne team again at the MCG and the game was called off due to the weather and that Melbourne team was awarded the AFL premiership without West Coast being allowed to play a game. You and other West Coast supporters would be up in arms screaming blue murder.
Not really relevant, is it?

This scenario is pretty unique to cricket.

Yeah well the weather is not going to be an issue in an AFL game, they will play rain, hail or even snow but the point is you would still feel ripped off as a supporter of a team that doesn't get a chance to play in the deciding final or grand final of a sports competition due to the weather.

Rain affecting cricket games is pretty common and sometimes you can just put that down to bad luck but when the weather forecast is for a lot of rain a week out from the game you can't just put that down to bad luck, CA had time to move the game elsewhere and still chose to keep the final in Sydney.

CA moved the Bushire Bash to the Junction Oval, they could have done the same thing with the BBL final and made sure there would be a guaranteed game.

Nah the Junction Oval was not organised at short notice, it is part of the scheduled Womens T20 Tri-series and preparations were well in hand already. All they've done is add the bushfire charity match as a curtain-raiser to the main event. It is only a 10 overs per side game, no big deal. Might even get a few more through the gate than just watching the women play. This is not anywhere near organising a stand-alone match at a new venue at short notice.

Yet your only solution is to move it to the opposition’s home ground and screw the Sixers. You are not being reasonable, if the game is moved it has to favour the number 1 seed side not the side that lost the Qualifier.

It depends on whether you want to see an actual game played or not.

I'm not always Plugger's biggest fan, but at least that is what he wants to happen.

And I agree with him.

As much as I'd like to see a game played over a wash out, if it was to be shifted to a different venue it'd have to be a neutral like Adelaide/Optus/GABBA. Going to the G or Marvel (or any other VIC oval) is just completely unfair on the Sixers after earning the right to host. Which ever venue in another state would be able to host at short notice should host it, if multiple are able to Sydney should get to choose.

I know Vic's are used to having thing's go their way in the AFL (VFL) at the expense of other states, but unfortunately for them this isn't the VBBL.

IMO Sixers have earned the trophy though if it is called off.
