This has been a common theme through the thread but it makes little sense - tis is Buddy Fing Franklin we're talking about! It would be pretty hard to avid getting rich when you are as good as he is. He might be marginally richer (though not by much after tax) than he'd have been if he stayed. But then again if he had stayed and we'd still won the three (which of course is by no means certain) how much might he be making from merchandise of various kinds?

Point is anyway, getting rich was inevitable for Buddy. Winning more than 2 flags and having a more satisfying career is still up in the air. Maybe he wins more at Sydney in the coming years and Hawthorn take a long time to compete again. Maybe not. But clearly he has reasons to wonder about what might have been. Money is a given. Success is not.
Money is never a given. If it was, why did he leave?

This is just a thread based on Hawthorn fans wishing that Buddy regretted his decision.
Exactly this.

Old mate could not be happier, living the life style and playing great footy. Not sure why OP is having such a melt. Mods lock it up, we are done here

There's no guarantee that if Buddy stayed with the Hawks they would have won those flags. Butterfly Effect and all that.

Buddy made the right move at the time. Getting paid a lot more money over more years for doing the same job, most people would take that.

It's a shame for him, from a football accolade perspective, that the club he went to are the biggest underachievers of the modern era. Seriously, making the finals in 15 of their past 17 seasons - finishing top 4 in 8 of those years - for just the 2 flags is pathetic. I'm sure he would love another flag and maybe it will still happen, but his team really needs to learn how to perform in September first.

I look at it differently, premierships are incredibly difficult to win, having talent only gets you so far, Sydney are incredibly good side they have consistency most teams only dream of I believe there time will come.

I don't believe either party regrets the move, not yet anyway. He looked hampered by the corkie. Tippert on he other hand cost them big time. Hawthorn did ok out of it too, forced us to rely on more of the team, not just a few.

Its a fitting end to an unpredictable season really, anyone's chance from here.

Ablett is far more likely to regret his move.

Buddy will go out one of the greats of the era either way. Hawks weren't offering anything like the dough he's on, nor the length of the contract. He's still been part of a successful side at Sydney. As much as we all think players play for flags and nothing else, he's won two. The third and fourth would have been great but let's be honest - there's no way they'd mean as much as the first two.

Sydney would be happy too. Incredibly he's looking more and more like he might still be offering value close to the end of the deal. They would regret the Tippett move though. Has played some solid home and away footy but generally he's been unreliable, injury prone and a grand final flop.

Not really a disaster, he's continued his individual success over there and went deep into finals several times. Two flags is enough to cement his legacy, unless he plays like absolute garbage for the rest of his career.

Disaster for Sydney having had the list they've had, yes. Unless they only care about money, he's probably made them stacks. But that's their own fault for not flogging off Tippett and refusing to make space to pay Mitchell, you've gotta make tough choices sometimes.

Hardly pathetic, quite the opposite

and Swans fans trying to justify spending 10 mill on a thoroughbred who cant win them the Melbourne Cup.

Yep and every footy fan everywhere always tries to justify whatever move their club made

I remember one fan base defending something ridiculous for a few years
