Nodders in D grade no way they are too proud a club! Reds to go into B grade. Carey coming up with momentum OC maybe and not sure about the Friars who have dropped 2 grades in 3 years.

REDS
CAREY
CAMBERWELL
FRIARS
ORMOND

have the " nodders " and " friars " managed to hang on to their list from last year ?, you would think that if they had they would be both hard to beat, i only had the nodders to depart c-grade as i heard theat experienced senior players had departed, and their young kids would find it difficult to win enough games to stay up and rebuild.

reds after having a year there have an edge over carey and rupo to earn the right to b grade,

DG-MAN / HANSIE, how is dolly comming along ??

will we see him running around by the middle of next year ?

exciting times / exciting comp / exciting year ahead.

Have a great christmas to all concerned with c grade ammo's in 2007.

Based on last year surely Monash will be gone and also with Parkdales list now depleted of all but a couple of good players they will struggle to win even a couple of games

As I said many times last season, "Never, ever write off the Vultures!!". Mark my words, there is no way they will get relegated. :thumbsu:

2007 C-Grade Grand Final will be between the Fitzroy Reds and Parkdale, with the Mighty Redders getting up in the finale. The reason:
2001 - Reds win D3 grand final over Bentleigh (south of the Yarra)
2003 - Reds win D2 grand final over Peninsula (south of the Yarra)
2005 - Reds win D1 grand final over Ormond (south of the Yarra)

Let the Trend continue…...

Could well happen, but there's at least sides in C section South of the Yarra being Parkdale, Monash, Ormond, Old Camberwell, Old Carey (just) and Mazenod. Not brilliant on my Donvale geography, but the Friars may well be the 7th!!!!

I'd expect the Final Four to be comprised by a combination of the Reds, both OCs, Friars and Ormond.

Mazenod and Rupo need to consolidate after coming down/up respectively, Parkdale will lack depth, Monash sound like they're decimated, whilst NOBSPC will take another year or two for the young St Pats kids to come through.

Wouldn't be surprised if there's a distinct Top 5 / Bottom 5 split but Rupo could be the smoky to break it up.

I forgot to clarify my thought on why the Vultures will be the Redders prey...the trend relates to us defeating clubs along the Frankston railway line, with the Pirates being at the end of the line, thus the reason I have nominated Parkdale. If the trend continues, expect the Reds to knock off St Bedes Mentone in the 2009 B Grade grand final, and Old Haileybury (based at McKinnon) in 2011 when we win our first ever A grade Flag.

OK, then on the basis of your "Frankston train line" theory, it's gotta be Ormond in the GF for mine. They're smack bang on the Frankston line, between Glenhuntly and McKinnon. ;)

Old Camberwell (by plenty)
Old Carey
Whitefriars
Mazenod
Fitroy Reds
Rupertswood
Ormond
North Old Boys
Parkdale
Monash

First declared on the '06 CGrade thread ,Old Camberwell are finally ready to 'step up'. Last year (06) was a rebuilding year and the results were pleasing to those close to the club.
2007 will be decididely one way with Old Camberwell leaving all others well behind from March thru to September.

Be afraid, be very afraid.

If its not bad enough coming back to work today, I then have to read this dribble! We have been hearing about how good OC are for years( remember Richard Taylor?), so lets get a dose of reality.

Reds will clearly be the testing material with the new coaching structure, a new president, the departure of Red Roy and the scribe on board as ressies coach. There are at least 7 quality recruits to be added and Steve Maus is a breath of fresh air. The clean out that had to happen .

Be afraid alright, of the Reds!

Overtheline, the same crap is continually sprouted by reds fans and as we saw last year they were closer to relegation than competing in the finals realistically. 7 quality recruits still puts you a long way off the mark if last year is your yard stick

Unless my command of the English language has completely left me after an alcohol infused Xmas period, I think OTL was referring to several other factors (in addition to the minimum 7 quality recruits) which should place the Reds in a good position to improve on last years' efforts.

Frankly, Ormond were brilliant in making finals and many were surprised that they lost the 1st semi. So I think anyone who doesn't have them in their calculations at this early juncture does so at their peril.

The Reds will have the benefit of many new arrivals on the playing and coaching front, and quite a few of their acquisitions will be coming from a club with 8 years straight in A grade. If the gulf between A and C is as big as many posters claim, then I'd expect a few Redders will be shocked early, but pleased in the longer term.

In short, methinks at least one (if not both) of the D1 grand finalists from 2005 will be competing in B Grade in 2008.

I have also heard some big things down at redland. I agree that these two sides, Friars and the two OC's may be the big 5 for 07.

Any news down at Carey?? Will the Captain Parton play at all. Have they lost many / gained many?

Old Camb have recruited well. I think they have 3-4 Scotchies down there. I am not afraid.....but do believe they will be a strong side.

OTL - this is an outrage !!

I quote "the departure of Red Roy and the scribe on board as ressies coach"

i have gone no where OTL, stiff to miss out on the twos job, but who am i to compete with the enlightened one, Frase.

I agree that Maussie is a breath of fresh air - what about burgs going to Caulfield Grammar as assistant coach to Stevie Wright by the way??

Hopefully Fraser can make it to most games and not miss important ones (ie Grand Finals) with other committments because make no mistake about it, The Reds will be there.

Quick Predictions:

Grand Final:

reds v Friars

Premeirs:

Reds

Relegation:

This is a lock:

Monash Blues - will be disgusting this year. no Gregory, Smyth or depth

Parkdale - amazing last year but have lost their Captain and Full back, best player in Hecker, Local Boy undecided and Tuly also gone.

That is all

Red

Sounds like you could be a tad bitter there Roy re: the 2nds coaching post? Any lingering issues or have you already buried the hatchet with Scribe?

I note Scribe hasn't been sighted on BF since the 1st week of December....perhaps his appointment has sent him ducking for cover to steer clear of the Redders most prominent poster???

Friars to smash the Reds in the grand final

Parkdale and Rupo to be relegated, not impressed with Rupo last year against the struggling Bulleen Temp, too short

Its a shame the Friars are atleast a few years away from possibly fielding a superb old boys side, but hopefully a few of the superstars return to the club by the time we get back to A grade

Old Camberwell are a joke, it would mean C grade is alot weaker than I thought if they made the finals, I used to enjoy being sent out there but their performances this year put me to sleep they were so ******** (Although one day was too cold to fall asleep :p and the ground is a disgrace, a little bit of rain puts it underwater )

Its so good to be able to discuss VAFA footy freely now :thumbsu:

Concrete Boots,

I can't imagine Red Roy would have to bury any hatchets with me re: coaching appointments.

It'd be fair to say my decision to leave Trinity after 15 years was motivated by both playing and coaching aspirations and, once I discovered Mausy was looking for new coaching staff, but would be happy if they wanted to play as well, then the Redders seemed the perfect environment to move into. Conventional wisdom has been that A reserve of a similar standard to C or D senior, so it'll be interesting to see what the strength our playing list is and where I might fit in.....

In the end, after a cup of coffee, a reasonably in-depth chat and 3 days of consideration, the proposed move to Fitzroy seemed to me to be a 'no-brainer'. There's only 14 days to go before pre-season starts and I must say I'm getting rather excited. :)

As for why I've been out of the BF loop for the past 3 weeks, well there was a 2 week beach holiday in there somewhere, and then the silly season to survive.
Must say, however, that it's highly likely that my trusty pen will be placed in the holster for '07 and replaced with a whistle, whiteboard and magnets. Postings on BF will most likely also decrease. I'm sure many out there in C grade-land will breath a sigh of relief. :p

Cheers

Fraser

frase,
Welcome aboard!
Your appointment is a real plus along with the astute appointment of Steve Drury as Vice-President. The club is really moving in the right direction and 2007 looks very exciting. The departure of a few players will hurt ( vinnie in particular!) but that is far outweighed by our excellent recruiting coups and much needed and long overdue new coaching panel.

Do you share my enthusiasm for a top two finish?

There is plenty of hot air coming from a few tired voices this year. With the season so far away and supposed "gun" recruits yet to get through a pre-season it'll be interesting to see where the teams end up. I'd be more worried about the teams saying little (Rupo, Carey etc.) than the few on here sprouting garbage about premierships.
