NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Lappin is used as a marking option, a leading target.

He is exactly the sort of player that Makey shouldn't play on.

Having said that, Makey will probably play on him and give him a bath just to prove me wrong. ;)

It's all about the finals, The Spornstar. Lance could beat arch every week in H&A rounds he would still be his bitch until he beat's him in the finals.

That makes Carey SOS' bitch then. Actually SOS beat Carey in both H&A and finals;)

But seriously, yes it is a final but it is only ONE game. Using that theory, we may never meet in a final while both Arch and Lance are around....say hypothetically that Lance beats Archer every time we meet in H&A, does that still make him Arch's b*tch?

Yes it does

And SOS beat Carey in one final, the G.F 99 was not it

Actually, I thought Carey had an average game, by his standards, in the 99 GF.... That one-handed mark .... oh I miss duck... :(

Makepeace should take Lappin.

Petrie should play CHF, just to really test their backline.

Robbins should tag Camporeale. Normally Cochrane would get this job, but I feel Stuey is growing in confidence, and would like to see him play a full game with all his effort focused on getting the footy himself.

Simpson will tag Ratten.

The backline matchups are a bit of a mystery.

Mick will take McKernan when he is forward, and I would play Baird on Whitnall. Archer is playing to well at the moment to be tied down to a player who is not really damaging, and he is always there if the matchup does not work.

Whoever gets McKay should really drag him out of the play. He is their backline, and if he is nulified, I can see us kicking a huge score. If McKay goes to Pickett, which is the logical choice, Byron should play midfield for short bursts, just to break the tag, and take McKay from where he is most comfortable and most dangerous.

The ruck contests really should be a no brainer and Porter has the ammo to fire after a quite few weeks.

If no matchup can be found for Motlop in the back half, I would like to see him play midfield. He will have alot to prove, and is capable of things that should not be possible.

The glaring deficiency in the last two weeks have been the lack of loose ball being taken by North forwards. Boomer made his name a flanker and is now finding it difficult to be as effective on the ball. Our midfield depth needs to be devloped to allow Harvey and Grant extended periods of time on forward flanks, resting, and doing what they do best; kicking goals.

Good post NB.

I actually think they'll start either King or Clayton on Campo. King usually gets the joband more often than not does it well. But this year Pagan seems to be giving Clayton the job on the opposition's best runner (Riccardi, Nathan Brown, Bard Johnston for eg)

I reckon Robbins will find himself on Ratten at some stage, although it wouldn;t suprise me to see him give Grant the job for some time just to help Shagga get near the pill a biit and play him into some form. Stevo is also an obvious candidate, who is in a similar situation to Shagga in that it wouldnt hurt to put him on a player who will take him tothe ball. Simmo is certainly also chance, but Denis seems to have released him to go and get it more than stop someone else from getting it. I guess the fantastic thing is that we now have a heap of very good options for these kind of roles which is another reason we are looking a bit better and certainly less predictable this year.

You are right Byron, Cohrane will probably get Camporeale.

Motlop's role in the backline is to run and create, therefore he rarely get a topline player.

Lappin might be out of form, but he is a dangerous little bastard, and needs constant attention. I reckon he is less successful against hard bastards, and Makey can give him the occasional punch to the ribs.

What about Blakey on Lappin?

Definately a possibility, although I'd say Makepeace, who has been getting these types of players thus far for us, and Archer, who has played on him before, might be ahead of Blakey as an option.

As much as i rate Makey, i fear Lappin may have a little too much height for him, but when the ball hits the ground, i rate Troy a big show of getting the better of any contests.

If Lappin needed a turn around in fortune it would be to see Makey heading for him at the first bounce. Exactly the type of guy that troubles Troy. Denis, please don't listen to these guys! (I'm sure he listens to us all the time)

Hey, i didnt say I would play Makepeace on Lappin. Ideally i'd actually play Troy as a permanent half forward/forward pocket as he looks to have the class and smarts to be dangerous in that area, but thats another story. I personally would play Arch on him, with Cochrane or Motlop as back ups and Blakey as a last resort. Arch would totally nullify him inthe air and would give him no space to breath once the ball hits the deck.

But knowing Denis, and the jobs he has given Troy so far, i think he will probably start on him.

I reckon Blakey will get Lappin.

Interesting comment about Makey going up forward. Might be worth a shot this week!

Archer?

Not a chance. Glenn is our best player at the moment, and I will be pissed off if he is wasted on a bloke who has done sweet FA all season. If our midfields gets on top, the blues will not have the frickin ball on the Sunday, so putting your best player on a bloke who is out of form and goalsneak at best, in game we should be confident of blowing apart, is not a great idea.

Just my opinion of course.

If Blakey gets Lappin, ireckon it is time to give Troy a go in the guts. He is the best field kick in the side, and is good overhead.

no-ones mentioned who will get McKernan if he plays forward. If he is I would like to see Archer on him and Mick on Whitnall.

Lappin is the wild card and I dont think we have any defenders who naturally match up. In which case its time for Makepeace to cement his place in the side......

Stern

Martyn will play on Corey.

Makepeace, cementing his place in the side?

This attitude towards Troy is one of the more baffling things I have witnessed in my footballing life. Someone explain it to me.

I can only speak for myself, NorthBhoy (do you support Celtic, or am I off the mark?) but I think Makepeace has been excellent recently and if he marks Lappin out of the game (I rate Lappin highly) then he has convinced me that he has taken that next step up as a defensive player.

You may have been convinced earlier than me, and I would doff my cap to you for this!

Regarding Celtic, you are spot on my friend. The second best footy club in the world.

Regarding Troy, I was once like you, a non believer. When he was injured for a long period last year and rushed back into the ones I was surprised, but he kicked arse that day and has been consistent since then.

Stern, tell me you are a Hoops fan.

Completely agree. Go those Bhoys! However, we may disagree on who the best is;)

Sorry to take you back a bit NB (gees, a bloke goes on a lunch break and misses all the action doesnt he?!?) but i reckon Archer is our best match up on Lappin. The Blues will be looking for him alot this week, regardless of form, as he is one of the only players they have in their forward line who can make things happen for them and could be a key, providing their midfielders can get a bit of the ball. If you can totally nullify him, you can almost chalk in 4 points right away. Now i agree with the school of thought that its best to try and win a game rather than merely stop the opposition from winning it, but Archer has been sensational this year on the oppositions better forwards. Not only has he been able to totally block out any effect his direct opponent might have on a game, but he has also been able to create plenty in his own right. I see no reason why this should not continue just because his opponent may or may not be in form. Mick is the logical match up's for McKernan if he plays forward (do they have anyone else who can play ruck though with Allan and Hotton out of the equation?) and if Lance goes forward, i'm sure McCartney could be moved onto him. We have plenty of options in our backline for their forwards.

By the way, always a pleasure talking football with you NorthBhoy. We dont get enough tactical talk on here sometimes.

Its especially interesting as opinions on these match ups have diverged quite a bit.

We do have plenty of options in defence altough I do fear that Lappin is due a good game and I dont think Archer is the man for him.

Northbhoy, I am a Nottingham Forest supporter. We may be seeing you in the English Div 1 in a few years.......
