Changes for the Eagles

There we go. So why gift him a game because he's 2 inches (or so) taller than our current 2R, who is trying his ass off, something Griffin hasn't yet grasped.

Moran is the only one who could displace Sellar ATM. Sellar really hasn't been that far behind Maric, especially given the game time.

some people will look at last nights stats and read that Maric only had 2 more h/outs and 7 more touches than Sellar however stats can be misleading

there is no doubt in my mind that Maric had a much greater influence on the game

Maric was very impressive in the way he won his footy, there was couple contested marks and possession and his efficiency was excellent, while I believe Sellar at times gets some cheap possessions and made too many errors, missed an easy goal and gave away 3-4 free kicks

I didn't specifically mean last night, Maric was noticably better than Sellar, though over the course of Sellars time in the team, their output and influence per minute would be very very similar. Sellar just ironically seems more consistant, while Ivan goes very good, crap, very good. Sellar goes, OK, average, not bad.

we need Maric to stay at the very good level and we need our 2nd ruckman who ever that may be to be better than ok

There are very likely to be 3 ins for the Crows. Burton, Mackay and Dangerfield.

If all 3 are available they'll all be ins, as they are all best 22 players.

Douglas and Sloane would be 2 of the outs, with the 3rd out being a toss up between Shirley and Symes. I was happy with both of their games tonight, so I have no idea which one Craig will be forced to drop.

I agree macca.
Id leave Shirls in to notch his 150th at home.

Harsh on Sellar, for a guy getting around 5-8 minutes per quarter he is doing pretty well. In fact his ruck work has probably been more effective than Maric over the last couple weeks. Against Wood during the Collingwood game Maric got smashed in ruck but Sellar was far more competitive. Against Hawthorn his tap work was very good, yes the Hawks sharked a few but that is about mids and ruck communication.

Sellar does need to improve his marking and general ball winning around ground though. He is better at linking than Maric as he is far more mobile. Would like to see Craig have Sellar at HF when not rucking. It keeps him on the ground and develops his forward capabilities at AFL level

Cant drop Symes or Sellar! Both playing very well! Danger for Douglas.......Burton for who? Bock out one more week even if he thinks he's ready! CARN CROWS

out Douglas/sloane and maybe Otten/Stevens (would say Hentschel but he played well :thumbsu:)
in burton and maybe Bock

Dangerfield would come back via SANFL I would think to regain form
Mackay to come back via SANFL to regain form after being out for too long

The issue with Hentschel playing well and Burton AND Walker pushing to get back in makes selection this week particularly hard. Is it a matter that by doing so well, Walker's chances drop? It's a huge dilemma but an interesting one considering we havent had much of a forward line for a long time, and now we seem to be dripping in alternatives!

IN: Burton, Mackay
OUT: Douglas, Sloane

Absolutely no disrespect to West Coast but perhaps they would be the ideal opportunity to bring Mackay in and only play him for 40-50% TOG to ease him back in (effectively replacing Sloane who had an extremely impressive debut but we need to settle for finals. Sloane would only stay in if the selectors believe he is ahead of Symes or Shirley in the pecking order which i doubt he is just yet).

This week was 1 small/1 tall in for 2 talls; this week we redress the balance with 1 tall/1 small in for 2 smalls.

Danger to play for West and, depending on form lines, put pressure on Symes/Otten/Hentschel/Shirley/Reilly.

Griffin to continue putting pressure on Sellar

Davis and Walker, along with the hopeful return of Bock, to put pressure on the talls.

Just watching Eagles vs Kangas...I don't wish injury on anyone so I'll wish for Naitanui to be suspended. He will absolutely carve up Maric and Sellar, and we may have to bring Griffin in on the premise that he's the only ruckman we have who will actually jump into him at the centre bounces.

Seriously...Maric and Sellar look like anchors at the best of times, Naitanui will be sitting on their heads all day picking off the ruck taps at will. Its a good thing Naitanui isn't damaging by hand or foot...yet. Soon enough he'll be absolutely carving sides up around the ground too.

In: Mackay, Dangerfield, Burton (assuming all fit)
Out: Sloane, Douglas, Otten (rest for 1 game)

B: Johncock, Rutten, Goodwin
HB: Doughty, Stevens, van Berlo
C: Reilly, Vince, Mackay
HF: Knights, Tippett, McLeod
F: Burton, Hentschel, Porplyzia
R: Maric, Shirley, Thompson
I: Sellar, Dangerfield, Edwards, Symes

Assuming all are fit:

IN: Burton, Mackay, Dangerfield

OUT: Sloane, Douglas, Shirley

We don't need Shirley this week against the Weagles. They are crap.

um. Shouldnt that mean we play them, because then we get alot of frees for high contact.

Or will the umps go the other way, and say we sheaparded Nic Nat out of the contest

stupid rules, they can go either way in the ruck contests

i think that's how it'll pan out as well...though it might be a toss up between dropping Shirley or Symes (i'd personally prefer Symes in the team though).

Macca

On D-Mac I would like to see him come back in however given the fact he has been out for a month do you think Craigy may consider giving him a tune up game in the sanfl?

I would bring him straight in because IMO he has the class to deal with the lay-off of 4 games. However it wouldn't be out of the question if they have any doubt at all re his fitness.

We should never disrespect the Eagles, Gets, because not only are they our bogey side, they have won their last 3 games in a row.

I watched them today against the Kangaroos and they're certainly not crap. The Bulldogs and Essendon know that only too painfully well.

We should win this week, but only if we treat the game with the respect that we should and apply ourselves 100%.

I doubt that they are still our bogey team however this match deserves to be labelled as a danger game. A month ago I would've thought of his as a genuine thrashing and a percentage booster heading into the finals, now I am not so sure.

If we want a Top 4 spot we couldn't afford to lose on this occasion. I would hate to see us to fall to them though. Proceed with caution.

What was looking like 3 "easy" games about 5 weeks ago are now ALL challenges. Hawks had been crap and then flogged Collingwood, West Coast had been crap and as you said have now won three in a row including their first game on the road for the season, and Carlton have stopped being inconsistent! Make no mistake, that game on Friday night was an important win for us. Hawks HAD to win to make the finals. We HAD to win to ensure a higher position finish. Our desire was clearly stronger than theirs. You are right, we SHOULD win this week. These are the games we HAVE to win.

I thought Sellar had a good game. No way I'd drop him. Sloane played really well when he got a chance but he's the first to make way at this time of the season.

Wont happen, Neil Craig doesnt make that many changes unless he has too.

Why's Shirley being dropped??? Need a good tag for Priddis.

Im not convinced Priddis needs a tag, Embly is the one back to his Premiership form
Yep, Embley is a job for young Dogga I expect - often the barometer of the Weagles.

I personally don't think Danger will come back this week, NC won't risk it. Burton and Mackay for Douglas and Sloane only two changes this week. I can see Danger in our best side, just no one is performing badly enough for him to squeeze in atm, thus no need to rush him back.

I think that we don't need to tag anyone from WC, especially given that it seems Masten, Ebert and others like Kerr won't be playing. Therefore I don't think that we need to give Shirley a game this week. One of Burton and Walker should come in, Burton gets first go due to experience, if not fit, Walker gets a game. Otherwise, Douglas needs to not play a game for the rest of the year! Also, I think Otten is not playing up to his standard at this stage of the season and definetly needs a rest going into the finals. To take his place, Davis should get a game going into the finals we need to test him in case of injuries. Last week we were probably short a tall so Davis should come in. My changes:

In: Dangerfield, Burton/Walker and Davis
Out: Otten, Shirley and Douglas
