Even if Martin has been under an injury cloud, reading between the lines and I reckon he plays. If he plays, it makes me slightly more confident.

I have moments where it doesn't even feel like prelim week, but by Thursday the buzz will definitely be rising.

I get big Shane Biggs vibes from Roarke Smith. Could see him winning us a grand final with a 5 effort play and then never play for us again.

Another 6 goal to 2 first qtr would do it
We need to start well.

We only lost the first quarter on three occasions during the H&A season. We were 11 points down at qtr time against Brisbane, but I feel like the end the Lions kicked to in the opening qtr was the scoring end.

First quarter of recent prelims:

2016: Bulldogs by 2 pts;
2010: Bulldogs by 8 pts;
2009: Bulldogs by 15 pts.

We've won our previous four first quarters against Port. In those four matches, we've scored 100 and conceded 38.

Let's hope for more of the same.

If he could go for 3 quarters play and sub him if he’s body can’t cope. No love lost. Risk is if we cop another injury…

In - Martin
Out- Weightman

I’d keep young in and big Tim forward. Martin/Young to ruck 2-3 quarters. English/Young to ruck 1-2 quarters.

Good in theory, but does not work if there as an injury sub needed before Martin is cooked.

I don't need Brown or Lyon to validate my opinion either, and yes, I watched the game too.

Exactly. When asked for a tip, Lyon barely missed a beat before saying Port, could hardly wait to get it out. Total campaigner as usual towards us. He's the reason part of me wants Melbourne to lose and part of me wants them to win and then suffer a heartbreaking GF loss.

Not that we’re ravaged by injury because we’re only missing 2-3 best 22 players but it’s absolutely remarkable how healthy Port & Melbourne are. Neither side are missing any best 22 players and have a full list to choose from.

Can’t underestimate how important it is for Port to have a 2nds comp running right now too, we might have finished top 4 had we had that luxury tbh

A couple of interesting bits of information I picked up from the Telstra tracker.
- I've never though of Roarke as quick, but he had the 5th highest average moving speed during the game.
- Gardner covered 15.3km during the game which is good for the 4th highest. For someone who barely gets the ball, that's an enormous amount of ground to cover.
- Treloar had the 4th highest average moving speed. He looked awful around the ball but this suggests he was still working very hard when he was on.
- Hannan & VDM both clearly had the most sprint efforts for the match. It's pretty clear why they're both in the side despite not having huge output.

Hannan also plays his role and obviously does what is asked of him. He has a good footy IQ which helps.

Not so sure about that. Robbie Gray and Fantasia didn’t train yesterday. Georgiades needs to pass a fitness test before playing. But yeah a 2nds comp has hurt big time.

I remember those 97 and 98 Prelims, we skipped through from the QF to PF and thought we had it in the bag. At home, good form, week's rest, we had beaten Adelaide comfortably in at least one of the years, Adelaide hit by injuries in 97 at least and then...

Let's also remember two things. 1. We beat Port at AO this year. 2. If Naughton takes that grab in the square in the last five seconds (during our form slump) we win. Don't anyone forget that.

Melbourne have had a full list for the majority of the year. All the luck

i think its simple,
JJ starting replacing Weightman
Martin replacing Young
Young replacing JJ as sub.
Its a Prelim got to be bold, thats the beauty of the sub rule, if hypothetically Martin gets injured, then Young as a rescue option.
