Interesting reading in here. Lobb for me is one of the best genuine forward/rucks in the game, along with Wright (biased of course), Jackson, Marshall and English.

I think we'll struggle to match it with you in hte middle, especially if Cerra comes back this week. Stewart probably takes Lobb and Francis takes Taberner for me. Who do you guys see matching up on Wright, Hooker and Jones respectively?

I’m not kidding when I say pretty much any defender that can get on the park. At this stage it would probably be
Logue->Hooker
Cox->Wright
Watson-Jones

I would have swapped the Logue and Cox match ups but fair enough. When are Hamling or Pearce back?

Sometime between next week and never.

Logue is generally preferred to take the number 1 forward
Interesting. We do it by attributes over "this guy takes the #1 and this guy the #2" more than anything else. Stewart probably takes Lobb this week and then will probably take Larkey next week, whereas Francis will take Taberner and then Campbell/Xerri

How is Francis going? I feel like he is too small and could get a bath from Tabs if the midfield gets on top.

Has been defending really well, he might be a bit undersized for Taberner but has been doing that all year with Ceglar, Ladhams, Carlisle, Buddy, Daniher, Moore and Himmelberg so far. Ideally we'd get Reid up to speed soon so he can play on more of your medium types though.

He finished on strong after the 3/4 time break - just a couple of moments in the 3rd quarter where I thought it looked like he might be tiring.

He gave away a goal from a free kick inside defensive 50m when he continued tackling a Perth player who had already handballed the ball - and a couple of Perth players (Rogers mostly) tried to get into his face about it. There was another moment towards the end of the 3rd quarter where he out on his own between half forward and centre and Valente gave him perfect delivery inboard waist high but when he put his hands out he didn't hold it - I don't know, maybe it hit the wrong part of his hands. He did the hard running to get on his own but dropped a sitter.

In saying that he seem to cover a lot of oval and probably saved a couple of goals in the 3rd. One he was back on Peel's defensive goalline preventing a mark and knocking it over for a point and another one where Ewing was taken under the ball by his opponent about 25m close to boundary and Treacy ran across as third man up to prevent the Perth player marking.

If he translates the amount of ground he covered on a big oval in Saturday's WAFL into the role as 3rd forward and the repeat efforts required as a ruckman he'll be worth his weight in cryptocurrency. In the first quarter he showed how sharp his reflexes are when he trapped a loose ball on the wing and in the time you could click your fingers picked it off the ground and rocketed a handball inboard.
Yeah but in the 4th quarter he was cooked, barely had an impact and when he was on the ball he was basically jogging on the spot as play went on around him, the ball would be pinging over his head back and forth and he was caught by himself in the middle just jogging along by himself while his opponent was closer to play.

Needs a rest this week and then can attack AFL footy after that, will get a 4 game run at it into the bye for another rest.

None. Lobb isnt a ruckman’s a-hole. He’s a scaredy cat playing that role. Meek and Darcy just rotate onto the bench. We have missed Darcy cameos in the forward line dearly. Vs Hawthorn Tabs was free and found Darcy one on ones. Lobb just isn’t the same.
Can't go that tall against the Dons on a fast deck like Marvel.

I think he was ok on the weekend and I still think he is far and away our best fwd/ruck (well Darcy is but he's busy).
I agree, the key is Treacy. If he can get into form and come into the team, Lobb will get better and our forward line will be very hard to stop. Lobb just doesn't take enough pressure off of Tabs and the smalls, but he is the best Fwd/Ruck we have after Darcy who is going Gawnish..

Bombers have been playing their athletic 200cm teenage recruit Nik Cox on the wing, maybe we try Lobb in this position to run with him, thereby giving us an outlet mark out of defence, also providing another option to float forward for a mark opposed against a rookie non-defender. We'd need to drop Acres (maybe to the sub role) while bringing Treacy in for Freddy to keep the height in the forward line. This could allow us to fit Lobb, Treacy, Tabbs and Darcy all in the team.
Cox would show up Lobb
It would be embarrassing

wingmen work hard and need to constantly switch their game from defence to offence .
Added to this they need to feed off the midfield
Lobb would do none of this
Lobb is purely a CHF who's best attribute is when he occasionally drifts down to provide the outlet marking option on the wing
