Second hand goss from training:

Smith trained forward.
Schache trained with the backline.
Tomlinson did some ruck craft work.

Intriguing...
Any word on Grundy’s training position?

I’m not shocked Schache is training with the backs. He’s not going to develop further as a forward, he is all he will be alread. But an injury to two to May, Lever or Tomlinson would leave the team very exposed given Petty can’t be swung back. Adams is a long way off and D.Turner is both undersized and coming back from injury. Some time for Schache to learn Melbourne’s backline system just in case makes a lot of sense.

Didn't hear anything on Grundy, just got those couple of bits and pieces from the old mate of a mate.

You'd assume Grundy would be training as a forward/ruck though, but I wouldn't think he'd be picked this week.

Well oy reckon that Tomlinson should take on Curnow.
Curnow is super strong and fast. Tomlinson would match him for strength and he quicker than May or Lever. Keep Curnow to 3 goals or less and you can regard that it a success.

May everyday on Curnow. Just as if not quicker than Tomlinson plus has that perceived psycho quality that puts forwards right off their game.

I wouldn’t be flirting with that match up. Go with what’s worked previously.

One sample size but when we had Joel Smith as our forward against Brisbane a few rounds ago, he was absolutely towelled up by Harris Andrews. Andrews constantly out bodied and out marked him. Smith looked very undersized in that game. The very least Smith needs to do is split a contest. If he is not doing that he can't be playing a key post.

Didnt Melk play on Andrews that night and Smith was the sub?

Problem is what's the alternative? Grundy? Good for 1 goal 5 disposals and a heap of oppo rebounds Grundy?

Tomlinson is one of the slowest players in the afl. He's certainly slower than May and Lever.

He was very good against Collingwood as a forward.

I would suggest that they need Smith down back with his speed and jump.

Might be an opportunity to try out Schache. I certainly hope they have been doing something with him in the reserves so he can play a role as he is signed until 2024. He just needs to take the number 1 stay at home defender and get out of the way of JVR. And if it is not going well they can throw him down back.

Melk = Cut out Weitering.
Schache = Be a dangerous looking Giraffe on number 1 stay at home defender and get that ball to ground if it is not marked (assuming team reverts to kicking it long and high again instead of low and direct which seems to work!!!!).
JVR = Gets Number 2 stay at home defender and kicks a bag.

Smalls do what is needed (Pickett spends time in the mid-field).

Petracca drifts in and out.

So
Out Petty, Harmes
in Schache, Oliver
Sub Hibberd

Maybe Bowey goes out and Hibberd comes in (so Bowey is the sub).

It was all looking good until Petty got injured but I feel they just have to move the deck chairs around a little and they could be really good to go.

I make jokes about Schache but I’m genuinely keen on him. Had some decent games for the dogs… he murdered Aliir in the 21 prelim. Just need a couple of strong games out of him.

hey boys, I come in peace.

any word on Grundy?
I personally would love to be able to post on the Blue board, lots of very reasonable conversation, and the shared board just not as interesting. so welcome. at a guess without a clue, Grundy is not in the plans because of forward defensive pressure, something that Petty did so well, and the reason why BBB with his knee is not favoured. I think the selection committee will go with which ever tall can provide the best defensive forward pressure and bring ball to ground. Tmac has had a touch of the Weids, and gets pushed under the ball a bit too easily, and no lateral movement sadly. That said I think our mid/small forwards will be lethal and you should be very scared of Trac, That f50 contested pack mark he took against North he has been trying for awhile and now he has stuck one, expect him to play tall. Smith is mobile enough to keep Weitering accountable and hopefully can suck your best defender away from the fall of the ball. I also think Viney will hound Cripps.

Cripps will eat him for dinner.

Play Jefferson. **** it. If he can kick goals at Casey then he should be fine with Augustus dumping the ball on his head. At the very least it will show if he can adjust to the speed and physicality of an AFL game.

I am anticipating a finals like contest. The Blues will want to get another top 4 scalp. And Melbourne need to beat another in form team to give them confidence that they won't shit the bed and go out in straight sets again.
