Not sure how we've stymied his development. He's gotten plenty of games and has spent a lot of time around the ball. He just can't get his hands on it.
A lot of time around the ball my ass!!

FWIW

id drop Laird, Atkins, M Crouch, B Crouch
Bring in McAdam, Schoenberg, Gibbs, Davis

walker back, fish forward
Tell Gibbs here’s his chance. Snap out of it or don’t
I like the idea but dropping too many more experienced players in one hit wont help either. The team morale could be further impacted if we lose more games by bigger margins. Surely at some time the youngsters will become demoralised. ...if they aren't already.
Your earlier point about the mistrust between the players and management is very valid. Continual changes to the team wont fix that problem.

Its how do we get the management to be removed. I mean is there anyway. We dont have say. Our hands are tied. We need players to speak out like Macca did. They have to stand up and help initiate change.

That was in regard to size and he's very close to all in stature but of course you'd know better, maybe if we played him where his "natural" game is we might just get an idea of what he's capable of. He never, ever struggled to get involved when he played on the ball or defence in the U18's and he most certainly didn't struggle to get involved in the SANFL when played across half back or in the few squirts he had on the ball.

Some of the AFL Draft Central team's comments from Murphy's draft year.....struggles to get involved?

Fellow Coburg pair Marcus Lentini (30 disposals) and Luke Bunker (23) were among Northern’s best, with Adelaide draftees Matthew Signorello and Lachlan Murphy managed 27 disposals and a goal each.

while Lachlan Murphy had a day out feasting on 26 disposals, 14 handball receives, two marks and three tackles. Luke Bunker was not far behind with 25 touches, 12 marks and five tackles in a hard working effort.

#9 – Lachlan Murphy

At all clearance opportunities, Murphy was the go-to player for Knights, sharking from the ruck contests multiple times. Set the Knights up going out of the contest, showing he can win a great mix of inside and outside football and using his already developed frame collecting 30 disposals.

Matthew Signorello (30 disposals) was one of the few strong performers for the Knights, while midfielders Luke Bunker and Lachlan Murphy both found the football with 25 disposals each.

Michael Alvaro’s scouting notes:

Northern Knights:
#9 Lachlan Murphy
– has genuine speed, ran hard and collected a heap of the ball. Is highly damaging with these traits, as well as his booming left foot, which is also very efficient

Lachlan Murphy racked up 37 disposals, seven marks, six tackles and a goal in an impressive performance, while Isaac Miller was one of the best for the Pioneers with 35 disposals, eight marks and six tackles.

Carlton Father/Son prospect Jake Bradley (Son of Craig) played his best game for the Knights, collecting 21 disposals showing his dash through the middle of the ground. Midfielder Luke Bunker backed up last weeks effort, again collecting 25 disposals in another impressive showing for the Knights. Lachlan Murphy‘s run out of defence was also impressive and set the Knights up moving forward.

Knights midfielders Lachlan Murphy (26 disposals), Luke Bunker (25 disposals) and Patrick Naish (20 disposals) tried hard all day, but they were unable to stem the flow of play with Filipovic dominating in the ruck.
He’s not 18 anymore and he’s been elevated through the system from rookie. You want him to take Brown or Lairds spot? I’d go Laird maybe but Brown and Talia are tight as thieves in their pairings.
In the end his under 18 results do not in any way have parity to AFL. Do they?

Gibbs to wing and DMac permanent small forward.

Bizarre? Yes of course but that’s Blight. Simple rationale that we’ve had a lot of the same players playing the same positions for over 2 years now. Where has that got us?

He’s not out of touch at all - he’s just imaginative - you know, Shane Ellen etc etc
My first thought of Ellen at FF that day, what the hell but if anyone can make this work Blighty can.

They do when we've never played him at AFL level in the 2 roles he played so well (mid/half back) in the then TAC Cup and School system that saw Hamish invite him over to try out for the Crows through the "development" position in the SANFL. He was offered a rookie spot off a stellar SANFL season playing across half back mainly and the times he's been sent back to the SANFL after being rookied he's done pretty well when played in the midfield. When the midfield is a shitshow like recently why not give him a squirt through the midfield to change things up because you know with absolute certainty he'll bring the effort and pressure.

Well maybe he will use the ball better out of defence than a dump kick. Tell me who’s using that more now it is 6/6/6.

I don’t think we risk losing further morale at all

I don’t think there is much, if any to lose.

Of course he has. It's not just CBAs. He's around the ball a lot at stoppages, but just doesn't seem to get his hands on it.

I respect your ability to google kids football games from a few years ago, but it's obvious what Murphy can and can't deliver playing at a higher level.

I hope Nicks uses selection to send a strong message to his players today. Have a big fat ugly (OMISSION) next to a big name or 2.

Its seemingly the most brutally honest thing for a player to see in modern footy these days.

The Thursday non injury related Omission for a Sunday game.

Rowe said an interesting thing on AA tonight. No idea if it was true but he said "I messaged Brad after the game and said I hope your cheek is ok, and Brad replied with "who cares".

Made me think twice about his commitment after hearing that.

If that's true, I'd make him run laps for 5 hours at training and drop him this week.

I think he has a foot out the door, it gets complicated though as the crows will want whoever picks him up to offer a huge contract as he is a RFA, this could mean a CAT1 compo pick after our first pick - effectively meaning we go into the draft with Picks 1, 2 + GWS 1st.

I predict he leaves as RFA this year, and his brother follows suits next year same deal. Will be a shame, however it'll be huge compensation for us.

Keays did some nice things, but some god awful things too

Changes look fine to me but you missed Seedsman

Keays had played 4 games in 2 years before the Port Game. 14 games in 3 years essentially (16 gifted games in his first season sitting in a forward pocket in a wooden spoon side).

Think you'll find once he settles he will be useful as a half forward/mid who can kick a goal a game, or even a Matt Deboer type run-with. Is he ever going to be above average as a player? Probably not. But give him 5-6 games before you write him off IMO

A lot of games which I either witnessed live or on the TAC Cup/NAB League streams at the time...

I thought it to mean he didn't give a stuff about his cheek because he was down about the performance.

Seems I interpreted your sentence wrong then. When you said, " Made me think twice about his commitment after hearing that.", I thought you were were doubting his commitment having previously not had a concern with it. You're saying you did have a concern but that has now allayed that to some extent?

I don’t think you can under estimate the way the ball is moved out of defence. The angle of downward ball flight either makes it hard to mark or easy. There is nothing worse than being in a pack and having the ball coming down steep. On Sunday this is what we were doing, that’s why Smithy, Junior n Seed can get the ball out, where Tals, Kelly Hartigan and especially Laird struggle. None of these players should ever kick out from the square.

I'm personally not ready to give up on Keays, though his hair is shocking (I am a convert to the DABM hair theory).

He did get a nice goal from 50 and isn't exactly slow, though he is rather off the pace. Still, I could see him ending up as a run with player, and we desperately need one.

Get the impression that Nicks is pushing hard for change and getting resistance.

There is always resistance to change.
