I agree that Mackay has been good this season but I prefer the defensive structure when Kelly is back there. Unfortunately for Mackay, as good as he has been playing as a running half back, Milera was even better on Saturday playing the same role. If he misses he is very stiff but it means that we are in a very strong position with our outside midfielders for the first time in a long time.

I actually think its a pretty close call between Kelly and Mackay as that back pocket. Mackay has been very good in that role, even last season when he covered there. Mackay is much better for our rebound play and he holds his own as a defender. I don't mean to under-rate Kelly here either as he has been fantastic. But Mackay seems to be just as good now. I think Mackay has really improved as a footballer under Pyke. Both of these guys will get beaten on occasions in one on ones. But we are more likely to score on the rebound if it starts in Mackays hands rather than Kelly.

I do agree 100% that Milera absolutely must be given that half back role now in preference to Mackay. Milera is just 2 games into that specific role now and already looks like he provides much more than Mackay, albeit he has not yet been tested against a strong opposition.

They are both good options albeit they provide different options. My concern is what we do when someone like Dustin Martin gets on top of us. Brown doesn't handle the bigger bodied forwards as well as he does then nippy smalls and we can hardly send Laird, Milera or Mackay to him. That where Kelly is most valuable.

Yeah good point. Not that Kelly has managed to hold him though. Would like to see a fit Knight get a crack at him.

Best option for Martin is probably Hartigan.

I'm travelling from Canada and will be at this game with my fiancee! This will be my second Crows game (saw them play the Eagles in Perth back in 2016), and first game at the Oval.

I hope the game result is the same. that was a great win at Subiaco.

And I still remember that game as having the silliest, most ridiculous score review ever. Luckily the game result went the right way as it was umpiring incompetence extraordinaire that night.

The scans have cleared him of NO SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE

A bit of a half arse statement by the club

Ok their is no significant damage however was there any minor damage picked up by the scans?
Yep. Love it when they bust that out. Wait for the "hot spot" comment on Thursday if journos ask right questions. Hes not playing imo

I honestly can't see Gibson getting a game now unless we get some more injuries with our defenders. Especially once smith comes back in. Handy depth player to have though if we need him.
You're probably right. Ironic, isn't it? He played 130-odd games straight, moves over here, does a hamstring . Gibson must have damn near ripped his hammie off the bone to still be 2-3 weeks away.
I thought he'd be playing on a wing, or as a tagger. Still might be the latter, on a needs basis, and yes, is good for our depth.

Dmac has been a best 22 player for 9 years now. 6 coaches in charge at the AFC have all had him in there. Yet still the discussion rages on.

However - DMAC is almost 30 now. If people keep saying he isn't best 22 they will eventually be right.

Also - his 4 year contract seems a very reasonable deal and a solid move by the AFC. Man - I remember those melts. Has played in 19 or more games the last 3 years. Well done.

B. Brown. Talia. Doedee
HB. Laird. Otten. Milera
C. Seedsman. Crouch. Atkins
HF. Lynch. JJ. Gallucci
F. Betts. McGovern. Knight.
R. Sauce. Gibbs. Sloane.
Int. Douglas. Greenwood. Fogarty. Kelly

Fogarty for Tex
Kelly for DMac
Sloane for CEY (unlucky omission)
Betts for Poholke

IThe other option is CEY stays in and Fog misses and we play a slightly smaller and more agile forward set up

Has either Dear or Himmelberg shown enough in the SANFL we think they deserve a run at AFl level?

It’s hard to look good in our SANFL team at the moment. It could be demotivating to be sitting ahead of the ball in that team, meanwhile the new lad Fogarty gets to jump the queue straight to AFL level.

If we do think either of them is any good - this is a great week to give them a game with Walker likely out injured.

He's still got a lot of potential. Once he fills out and improves his kicking he will offer some.elite run and carry.
