Be interesting to see how Port approach the matchups defensively. Himmelberg probably should be out, but given the Port defence, I reckon he should stay.

All the talk seems to be Aliir to Tex, which is interesting. He's who I fear the most - can singlehandedly destroy our F50 entries if allowed to roam. And Tex won't have the defensive game to prevent him from zoning off at all (nor I suspect the selflessness/discipline to take Aliir as far away from the setup as possible - as I imagine Todd Marshall will probably do to Doedee if we send him to Todd). But if isolated Tex could get on top of him. It's tough - it could be one of those matchups where Tex kicks three but Aliir has 20 & 10 marks.

If Aliir goes to Tex it's giving Riley and Elliott matchups on blokes 3-4 inches shorter than them. They've got to capitalise on that. If Himmelberg goes out, we lose that potential advantage.

Defensive pressure is going to be so important and Rowe/McAdam just aren't offering enough of that. Rowe strikes me as the kind of operator who'll get so up and about for a 'big game' - and probably deserves one last chance to do that. If he has another stinker it's gotta be a spell in the 2s.

Whoever gets the Hartlett matchup (assuming Ken remains the same little b*tch at selection he always has been, and picks the crab) needs to burn the hell out of him. Absolute liability.

In: Sloane, Hamill
Out: McAdam, McPherson
Would be happy with these changes, as well as Brown in for Mackay if Brown is fit to play.

This!
But it's always been up to him. This is his fourth year. How many more before he wakes up?

In a simplistic world - sure. In the world we live in, that's only one part of the problem. The club Fogs at is another, and never underestimate how self destructive we've been here.

Adelaide has simply not had a plan for Fogarty that we've committed too until this year. Oh we want him to replace Tex? Would you look at that, we effectively foolsmated ourselves by resigning all of Fogs roadblocks, giving us no viable way to achieve that without either sacrificing salary or structure. Bad enough that we even mucked around with Fog as a defender.

Oh what a shock, the terrible structure we had when we selected failed, as well as Fog. Better drop the kid because what is forward planning? Don't you know if you can make the 8, anything can happen?

At least the mid/forward stuff has been given a decent chance to succeed and I do hope Darce takes it. Because, boy do we need him to make it at the moment.

Although the article this is from focuses on Collingwood, the 4th graph (if I've read it correctly) puts Adelaide about 10th for marks I50, but last for marks on a lead:

As if it were needed, it's proof that our midfield (+ wingmen + running half-backs) are delivering the ball poorly.
So, the Crows selectors should make the midfield a priority, starting this week.
Do we know about Sloane/Lynch yet?

Sloane was given the go-ahead by the opthalmologist, so he's in. Lynch is listed as "ongoing assessment" in the latest injury update, so he'd be very unlikely.

I agree with this for the most part, but I do not see how/why expecting players themselves to take responsibility for their own peak fitness and optimal weight is "simplistic". They're well-advised by dietitians and fitness gurus, but what they eat and how fit they get is ultimately up to them.
At a lower level, Fog's stand-and-shrug-off-tacklers default tactic works, but not at AFL level. Oppo defenders are better than he's expected. His defensive efforts once we lose possession are weak, but he's not the only one.
The single best thing I've seen him do is to know when and where to make a lead, take the grab (if the delivery is good) and pot good goals from well out.
If that's what he does best, the Crows can only pick him when our mids are fit and on song, unless he improves his fitness and the range of things he can do well.

Its getting to the point where it almost worth ignoring every comment Vader makes on Fogarty..

Fogarty mustve run over vaders dog in the past..

The mismangement of Fog by the club since he arrived at the end of 2017 has been an utter disgrace.

in 2018 the lad showed a heap.. what did the club do?... gave him a few games but mostly played him in the sanfl.. preferring to play a clearly injured and out of form Walker and a mentally checked out and, at times, completely out of form Jenkins.

in 2019 Don Pyke and the genius’s that he had in his assistant coaching panel decided that the best place Fog should spend the year was in the SANFL in defense!... brilliant strategy!.. again preferring to play Jenkins in the forward line.. a bloke who no longer even wanted to be at the club and was possibly leaking crap to the media.

in 2020... well yet again a clearly out of form and injured Tex walker was granted game after game. In a completely pointless exercise.. what shouldve happened was tex told to go away and get his body right and the forward line given over to Fogarty for the year.. instead we had a sh*t midfield kicking sky balls into our forward 50 and tex walker jumping up in packs with one arm trying to take miraculous marks all season. Fog played 10 games.

this year we’ve decided to try and turn him into a midfielder!.. which I actually dont mind, but some of our supporters beleive isnt gonna work because... he’s already played 3 games there now and hasnt immediately turned into Christian Petracca.

what next?

Agree
Waether Update.

There will be a lot of slipping and slopping on Saturday night by the Crows. Lets not forget flopping too by Wobbie Gray.

The wetter, the better they say at Crazy Horse.

Port were shit in the wet last week
We could well be shitter !
Happy for Fog to come back in. Despite a few clangers, he was pretty good yesterday.

I’d like to see him in and left in

We should tag Aliir - not sure who with. So much of their scoring is generated from D50 I'm curious how they'd go if he was ineffective.
Brisbane blocked that run last week - I’m not real sure exactly how / but they seemed to have big men all over the ground !

He's my tip for the showdown medal. Will be allowed to cruise around taking marks at will.

Keep the ball low, take him out of the game.

Mind you with our midfield playing as it is we might not get the ball in his area a great deal.

Might be a nice little mission for Himmelberg.

I pointed this out elsewhere, why not again?
Last week, Brisbane alternated their talls, Daniher and Hipwood, on Allir, and it worked a treat. Did you see the result of the game?
Yes, I believe we should alternate Himmelberg and TT on him: we need height. Tex on him would be a complete disaster.
Whether we would be bright enough to do this, however, is another matter. Also, there would probably be a great deal of hilarity as Allir tries to stand Tex, while our tall tries to stand him.

Alternatively, Tex could drag Allir to the goalsquare in an attempt to neutralise his run.

Everyone saying Newchurch is not AFL ready seem to forget Rowe hasn't looked AFL ready in the past month and Mcadam has been dreadful. How could Newchurh be worse? At least he is fast and might put on an ounce of pressure.

One won a premiership and leading goal kicker in the SANFL where the other struggled in u/18s and couldn’t play senior footy.

Grigg and Knight also dominated at SANFL level after they were delisted by us. Dominating at SANFL level means little if it can't be replicated in the AFL. The better prospects often are average in the SANFL and rise to the occasion in the AFL where it matters. Rowe is an SANFL standard player. My advice is to leave him where he is most effective. May help us win some games in the SANFL and facilitate the development of other players in the process. James will have a short career at afl level like his father.
That’s bullshit. Probably same could said about Lyons... who is playing in the guts for the lions. Grigg career went down the drain due individual issues with coaching staff. His biggest supporter was killed and replaced by someone who disliked him. Knight afl career was ruined by injuries.
