Gone straight back to our one KPD strategy, with the added bonus of Mackay as a small "defender"

We look quite weak and poorly structured down back

I just don't get it, we're playing 1 KPD again. We were exposed against Hawthorn and they don't really have any decent talls up forward.

WTF do we do if Butts is getting towelled up or gets injured? It just doesn't make any sense to me.

2 games ffs..... People need to get a ******* grip. We are rebuilding and we can afford to give a 20 year old specifically recruited FOR the rebuild more than 2 games.
True, but Berry gonna be better and so will Pedlar.. I really have not seen much to be excited about from Hately here or at GWS to be honest.. he may well develop and hope he does but happier Berry in than Hately, especially in a hard physical game.. Fogerty also..

So we've got Fog in - tick
Dropped underperforming McAdam and Moose - tick
Brown, Sloane and Hamill back - tick

Kept Rowe - cross
Gone taller forward - cross
Shorter defence - cross

One day we'll realise we don't simply have to do negative things to balance out the positive.
Brown has been average, duno if that’s a tick

Taller in a wet game ??

Nah
We aren't winning. Who cares about wet weather structure.

In any case Fog is playing on ball. His size in wet weather could be an advantage.

Tilthorpe pretty good below the knees. A good test for him.

Tex is not really a "tall" player. High ball marking not hus asset.

The only tall guy suspect to the wet is Hberg. And he can't mark a dry ball.

We've got West Coast next week, at Optus and with only a six day break. Followed by Richmond at the MCG and the unbeaten Melbourne at home.

Giddy up.
Is a priority pick still on the table?

IN:
Sloane, Brown, Hamill, Fogarty

OUT:
McAdam, McPherson, Murray, Hately

Emergencies: Jones, Frampton, Worrell, McPherson

Good - McAdam out / Fogarty in / Hamill in.

Bad - Hately out / Mackay stays.

Hopefully Himmelberg goes back, or we look totally unbalanced.

Once again, I feel there is a clear and consistent demonstration of our lack of system, structure and plan when it comes to player selection and development.

Except for those times we didn't do that
In 2021 since Burns has been in charge of the backline we've played with Butts, Doedee and Kelly as our talls in 6 of our 8 games. Those 3 have had then had Smith, McPherson, Brown and Hamill next to them when Brown and Hamill were fit with Mackay as the backup. We've got now replaced McPherson with Mackay, so that's a straight swap. We went with Butts, Murray and Doedee in Round 2 when Kelly was unavailable (so same 3 tall setup) and last week was the first time we changed tactics and went 4 tall with Butts, Murray, Kelly and Doedee.

So in every game but last week we've pretty much run with the same backline structure.

Why you would play Mackay over Worell is mind boggling. Butts, Doedee, Worrell on Georgiades, Marshall, Dixon is a smarter option. This then releases Doedee to play as more of a third tall rebounder. Worrell gives you the same rebound as Mackay but with someone who can actually kick well.
i’m now completely convinced that Roo has a massive say in selection. he’s been about the only constant in the last 4/5 years when it comes to the football operations, everyone else has been moved on/changed.. 4 or 5 years where this “experienced player must be picked over youth please” policy has been in place.

Roo loves Mookay.. goes out of his way to praise him in games when providing the boundary line comments no matter how mediocre the bloke is.

Roo loves “the connector” too.. “well, he is the connector” he says at least twice a game. even though the “connector“ plays one good game in every three, if that.

can definitely see Roo using his position to put pressure on the selection panel to select these two lads at every opportunity.

worrell shouldnt have re-signed... its ****in disgusting how poorly that lad has been treated at the selection table.

hope we lose by 100. we dont deserve to win and nothing will change unless there is a good string of massive beltings.. bring them on.

So we're insisting on the ultra tall forward line with Tex, Riley, EH & Fog. Four talls has failed every single time we've tried it.

Oh and D Mac over McPherson, in a rebuild. Any retractions from the "he's a break glass in case of emergency option only" crowd?

They'll rationalise it somehow. They always do.

Some have been wondering if this move has any potential (it's worth a try IMO) but this doesn't seem to be in the minds of our coaches.

Serious question (didn't see the last quarter last week)- did a tall go back when Murray went forward last week?
Didn't see it. Thilthorpe was moved to the wing to make space.

So do we think a tall forward line is good because we are playing 4 of them? Or not worth worrying about as we are playing one tall defender?

Selection is a mess at the moment. Drop Mackay and Himmelberg for Murray and Worrell and we immediately look better structured, plus we are playing more youth.

Maybe our coaches have a crystal ball and think the game will mostly be played in our forward line????
