they have zero respect for us.
One would think this might motivate the team, but probably not
It has nothing to do with lack of respect.
It is a long season and with the short turnaround, now is the time to rest a couple of the older players (which was always the plan), though a couple of others are banged up, so extra changes will need to be made.

More likely that they have respect for their own system/players, have been planning this since the fixture came out as responsible player management, and believe they can win against anybody no matter who they put out.

The Pies are masters at these sorts of games. If it was anyone else, I would back us in for the bounce back win after a loss, then stink it up next week, rinse and repeat. But Collingwood is one side who I think can sort us out no matter what.

Reckon this week will be another for the "Rhys Stanley" thread. My tip is someone who usually does nothing much like Membrey will kick 4 or 5 goals.

If we lose the midfield it is game over.

One of there smalls will do the damage, although I think Membrey will get Ryan so you are probably right.

Who would people prefer - Brodie or Erasmus in this week for Young?
Erasmus playing in the guts, probably tagging Daicos. We know what Brodie can do and his shelf life is limited due to his tank. Young out for maybe the season so it'd be rotating Ras, Johnno & even Jackson through there for the next 5 weeks at least. After that if it fails, bring in Brodie or see if Reid is ready.

If we want to keep the three tall fwd structure could we bring in Voss/ Omac (maybe Omac so they can switch mid game) and maybe play Jackson in defence and take out one of the other talls such as cox or draper. Play similar defensive role to maybe Lobb and also give us run out of the back half? Not sure about how Jackson goes defensively but seems to have 'transferrable' attributes so just a thought

I’d go with…

In - Brodie, Simpson, Voss
Out - Young, Draper, Narkle

I’m not one who always says Brodie should come in, but why not at this point. At least we know he’ll get first hands on the ball and he adds the size we need.

I’d also give Jackson stints as a mid, and give Wagner the tagging job on Daicos.

Simpson is in to give some run and unpredictability off half back, and it seems everyone can see we’re too tall down back. Although the big move I’d like to see is Ryan being taken off kick outs.

And Narkle is unlucky after two games as the sub, but I’d bring Voss back in the sub role. He might get himself reported when he finally comes on, but he’ll bring the energy others don’t.

Agree with all this. Wags definitely the accountable type and won't let Naicos off the leash, just a matter of JL assigning that role to him as we've been reluctant with playing a tagger recently.

Also agree that we've become a bit too predictable from kick-ins. I recall Adam Simpson saying that our kick-in taker (usually Ryan) looks for Cox as a marking target as a set play out of D50, which Freo do all the time. Oppo clubs would be all over this. I'd love to see Coops taking some kick-ins and using his pace to break up the monotony.

Brodie > Ras purely due to strength in the contest. Now that Young's out with no Fyfe we need a big body to support Seb and Bray.

Think OMac deserves to be back in the team, difficulty being a matter of finding a role for him as the team's already tall enough defensively and Jacko/Voss available makes it tough.

State-wide pitchfork shortages if/when we drop this one.
It's now a no win game for Jlo. We lose, it's pitchforks, win and it doesn't count. Swings and round abouts for other teams aren't taken into consideration.

GWS have Geelong away so barring an upset there, the Giants will have a mouth guards in at training week ready for us the following Saturday.

****, I’m having difficulty finding enthusiasm for this game…last weekend really did a number on me.

Check the score after 10 minutes, if the score looks ok you are probably safe.

The other way to do it, is watch the first 10 minutes. If we are getting smashed in the middle then walk way quick.

No idea how we won vs the bulldogs. We were very lucky.

Agreed. Really feels like we're treading water atm. Except we're stuck 10ks offshore and there's not a boat in sight.

Cool story bro.

Could also be a 5 day break with travel. They have enough wins on board to gamble with this one. It's not about lack of respect, it's just a willingness to drop an away game for the benefit of the season as a whole.

Yep :( I think we're all feeling the same.
I certainly dont care. And if we win, i'll actually feel sick, knowing we'll likely spud it up the following week. Win or loss this weekend it'll just feel like nothing. Hard to be excited knowing we can never back up strong performances.

For the record, i think we'll be torched which will hopefully bring JL closer to the end

An interesting suggestion in the listener's questions section of the 'Purple Reign' pod that I'm going to go with here.

Getting Voss in the forward and giving Treacy a shot in the middle! He has the tank and skills for it. Big-bodied mid and a wrecking ball, tackling machine of a man in there with Serong and Brayshaw in there is a damn good picture.

What's the harm in that?

As JL has said repeatedly, using players in secondary roles is what he wants to cultivate. Its working with Wags and I'd even throw Chapman in the mix. Depending on the opposition, 'Horses for courses' as they say, this is something I'd love to see. it would make make us less predictable, throw the opposition curveballs and add secondary skills to our players.

Duck also mentions that with Young out, give Ras four consecutive games and seal this uncertainty with him up! Give him a proper go, if it doesn't work them we won't die not knowing!
