It will be really great to get NOD back.

Absolutely need to drop Draper for a small. Can revise this to:
Out: Young, Draper, Narkle, Switkowski to sub
In: NOD, Voss, Simpson

Switta has lost his point of difference. I think the strength and enthusiasm of Voss is best.

Feel like this is not going to happen though as the roles are surely messed up. Hard to shoehorn Vossy into this team without the ruck/forward role available.

I think what I would try to do is Jackson plays primarily as a mid, vacating the ruck/forward role for Voss. We are absolutely crying out for a big body to protect Brayshaw and Serong. Wagner full time mid, mostly playing wing but rotating wherever needed.

D: Chapman, Pearce, Ryan
HB: Simpson, Cox, Clark
C: Wagner, Brayshaw, Sharp
HF: Bolton, Amiss, Reid
F: Voss, Treacy, Frederick

Followers: Darcy, Serong, Jackson

Bench: Johnson, NOD, Dudley, Worner

Sub: Switkowski

We must address the inability to win contest in midfield, however, there is a worry about forward pressure with that forward line above. Gee it would be great to have Pickett at this club already. We're desperate for that type of player and have been since we lost Shultz.

When was the last time we ever came from behind at 3QT to actually win a game of football? The only one that comes to mind is vs Geelong in 2012 at Subi..... can't even think of any from the Ross era, although there must've been a couple. None under JLo though..
Round 5 2023 v GC, 6 points down, won by 10. 2022 against Adelaide, down by by 10, won by 1 point (rd. 1)
Did it 4 times under Ross (2012, twice in 2017 and once in 2019)
The Geelong game was 2010, 14 points down, won by 7
:)

Tough call on Draper being dropped. Pearce was huge last week and against both Dees and Saints Draper noticeably gave 100%. Dropping him would be a slap in the face against one of our genuine more gutsy players this year.

Draper can give as much as he wants but it counts for very little when he's close to worst on ground in both of those games. He was downright putrid against Saints. We're way too tall down back.

The Draper we saw in the Sydney game last year was the one we need. The one where he was out marked 1v1 against kosi in the demons game or the weekend is not it.

The footage esp on the weekend in the pocket where he made this strange action as he was probably so gassed, but gave the impression he gave up. Don't think it's something you want to let your oppo know is how out of ⛽ you are

yeah kind of agree here...drop Ryan or Cox

Draper is noticeably different this year, all hands, too far off his opponent, loses the ball in flight, doesn't use the body, gassed. He is being asked to track smaller players most times and it isn't a strong suit.

If NOD comes in, then move Wagner back and Draper can have a week off. Pies have too many small forwards to contain.

We need to trial Jackson in the midfield. It is such an obvious move like Young was to the midfield. The suggestion to move Young on-ball unfortunately came from Boyd so I don't have faith in JLo to trial something like this.

An interesting suggestion in the listener's questions section of the 'Purple Reign' pod that I'm going to go with here.

Getting Voss in the forward and giving Treacy a shot in the middle! He has the tank and skills for it. Big-bodied mid and a wrecking ball, tackling machine of a man in there with Serong and Brayshaw in there is a damn good picture.

What's the harm in that?

As JL has said repeatedly, using players in secondary roles is what he wants to cultivate. Its working with Wags and I'd even throw Chapman in the mix. Depending on the opposition, 'Horses for courses' as they say, this is something I'd love to see. it would make make us less predictable, throw the opposition curveballs and add secondary skills to our players.

Duck also mentions that with Young out, give Ras four consecutive games and seal this uncertainty with him up! Give him a proper go, if it doesn't work them we won't die not knowing!

Good to see Mark Harvey still showing an enthusiasm for the club.

Not so much Draper deserves to be dropped, we just need a balanced team.

Who is our quarterback? Clark comes closest and I guess we are trying to groom Simpson for that sort of role. Not sure if that will ever pay dividends.

Mids/small defenders is definitely an area where we are lacking depth. I don't think it works playing extra talls to fill the gap.

Maybe it’s because we don’t have a lot of pace that may save him from being dropped but Freddy’s attack on the ball was embarrassing on Friday.

There was at least two instances where he slowed down or just didn’t even bother going in.

Would love to see him dropped but I know it won’t happen.

He and Cox are the weakest in the contest at the club. Both should be dropped.
