I'm happy to see Tambling get another run. He made some mistakes but he wasn't terrible last week, I would've dropped Thommo ahead of Grigg though, he's clearly injured although it wouldn't surprise me if he's a late out. McKernan can pinch hit in the ruck so Sauce doesn't have to battle all night so I'm happy with that selection. Hopefully LJ is a late in as well, we recruited him for a reason and we're simply not playing him. If he isn't in to stretch Freo's defence then he needs to be in if Jenkins fluffs it up again.

It's a shame that Truck is hurt but on the plus side, we get to see Hartigan have a run.

Seriously, get the **** outta here. What a load of shit. Who should have gone out before Grigg then?
Woah relax mate. I'm allowed to post my opinion on here just as much as you are. Tambling/Mackay are two. Other than last week, Mackay has barely got more than 20 touches all year. He is seriously overrated on this board and by this club. He's an outside player who doesn't get enough of it and doesn't provide all that much run and carry. If we were a shot this year, I'd be all for the more proven and safe commodity in Tambling but we are no where near it. It's time to give the kids a chance.

My thoughts exactly. Great to see Hartigan get his shot (sucks that Truck is out though). I have no problem replacing Grigg with Mckernan to stretch Freo's already depleted defense. Wouldn't be surprised if Thommo is a late out anyway.
What a shock, you agree with the selectors.

Not worried about being to top heavy on Pattersons? Of course not, the selectors don't think so.

What? Do you read this board? Given that pretty much every week there are calls for him to be dropped it's hard to call him overrated.

I'm guessing/hoping that Thommo will be a late out but they didn't want to give Freo a reason to be fired up by seeing us rest our two most senior players. Kerridge might leapfrog Grigg into that spot though.

A bruised shoulder to Truck is a pretty flimsy excuse for there not being a suitable match-up for him this week. Mayne is definitely too quick for him. In any case, I think it's a good move by the selectors. :thumbsu:

Thank you for so eloquently proving my point. By your own admission, they are both fighting for a position in the forward line. Whether they have other roles as well is irrelevant. If you want to say that one is a forward/ruck (which I agree with), then the pure forward misses out. It's still one position in a team of 22, whether it's dual hatted or not. There isn't room for both Smack and LJ, as they are effectively competing for one position.

It's not rocket science. Think about it for a while. You'll work it out eventually. If not, then one can only assume that you're nowhere near as clever as you think you are... as for me.. I've got you covered by the length of the Flemington straight.

You must be trolling. Mckernan has only ever been selected as second ruck/forward. Just as he has this week. He only ever has one person in his way (Jenkins). This week they have moved Jenkins to full forward and Smack to second ruck/forward.

LJ has never ever been competing with Smack for a spot. He would be a second tall at AFL level so he is currently competing with Lynch and Porps for a spot incredible you cannot grasp this.

I would rotate Porps through the middle a bit more and play LJ.

Harper says to keep performing at SANFL level to be selected.

Did you hear that Vader?!

In principle I agree with Vader.

If you arent performing at sanfl level, you are 0% chance of selection.

If you are performing, then it increases to 25% (not 10%). Training form makes up 50%, and a suitable position being available is the remaining 25%

OUT: Mitch Grigg (omit)

Wtf Hartigan in his first game.. Looking forward to seeing him.. Massive game to debut in and especially as a key post
I saw him do a pretty good job especially in the man on man department playing on Cloke who was returning from injury in a VFL game a couple of years ago..

Are there any rational posters on this board anymore? In what way did Tambling deserve to go out before Grigg? Because he's older, even though he played a good game last week and provided some good drive from defense?

We shouldn't be in this position, because we should have figured out long before now whether Tambling is a permanent fixture in the side. Instead we're still finding out with just over a month to run on a three year contract. This week it has cost Grigg his place in the side.

Sanderson thinks he is still coaching Geelong.
