Really interesting dilemma for the selectors this week.
Subi is big and requires fast fit midfielders (not Thompson).
BUT, if it is raining it may just allow Thompson to get through the game and have an impact (and I don't rate Thompson at all). Regardless, I bet that the minute Dangerfield is back in, Thompson is out to rest.
Grigg is very unlucky, but the one concern they have with him is leg speed. If it is wet, we may take McKernan out and throw Grigg back in to it.
We could yet go McKernan and Thompson late outs, Grigg and Kerridge in.
We are incredibly young and inexperienced though - you can't just fill a team with kids.

Oh no. Why would anyone bring Rutten back when you can continue playing a complete rookie with 1 games experience. Crazy!!!

Do you whinge your guts out at home as well as on here EC?? "Yeah, I know you cooked me great crumbed prawns Mrs EC, but I wanted baked beans." :)

Also, it wasn't rocket science to work out that McKernan would be brought back in after playing good footy in his last game before suspension, plus no way could you expect Jacobs to ruck solo against Sandilands on the vast expanse of Paterson Stadium.

Grigg did well in his limited time last week, but he isn't a KPP or a ruckman, and I agree with the selectors in their thoughts on these 2 selections. That meant that someone had to go, and logically that had to be Grigg this week. I'm sure we'll see him again this year - maybe as soon as next week, maybe even this week.

The one selection that defies logic is Thompson, if Thommo's groin was bad enough to bench him 6 days before this coming game. If so, he'd never even get close to running out a game at Paterson. IMO either he'll be playing virtually as a full-time forward with Lyons taking his spot in the mid-field, or he won't be playing at all, although chosen, with Grigg taking his place.
Well do I do have a degree in whinging.

But you've missed the point of my post a little. Woody was talking up the fact we played a debutant this week when in effect we had no choice due to injury. Of course Truck walks straight back in. But if Hartigan plays well I'd prefer to see him stay in defence, give Talia a crack at CHF and we give Otten a rest. If we lose to Freo then we should experiment a little.

Agree Smack comes in because we need a second ruck. But a forward line of Smack, Jenkins, Otten and Lynch is too big and too slow on a wet Pattersons. I would have given a rest and kept in Grigg.

But as you've alluded to the most obvious out would have been Thommo. He couldn't even finish his 200th because of his groin 6 days ago. Your suggestion of playing him forward with the rest of the slow forward line is a recipe for disaster.

So there's plenty of logic to suggest Grigg plays given he played well last week and is fit.

**** this shit, not sure why I put myself through this torturous thread each week. We have some absolutely joke posters.

Misguided anger. Tambo is rightly in, however could be sub given that bench. Travesty if he is. Thommos been getting worse as his injury catches up. He'll be worse again on subi and should be put on ice to get right for next year. He should be the first out after the truck 'injury'.

Stiff that @Mitch_Grigg38 misses out this week. Great debut & will be good player for us. Victim of our inability to manage Thommo's injury this year to give him a rest and let his groin heal, 2 ****

Seriously I will lose my shit if Thommo is restricted by his injury and plays bad (badly?). Maybe we should sub him again! Who are the traveling emergencies, by Jove I hope it's Grigg. And Grigg starting properly, not Grigg the sub. FFS. Mackay's lucky, that's all I can say.

That will depend on how our trading, free agency goes and how many spots we have available. Surely Joyce would also be an out?

Callinan, Joyce and Luke Thompson fairly and squarely in the firing line. Further than there gets more speculative quite quickly.

Weather forecast:

Friday: Thunderstorms
Saturday: Windy and showers, 90% chance of rain.

Yep, reckon we will be going in to top heavy. There's a reason the home team has dropped a tall.

The locals haven't dropped a tall. Hannath (201cm) and Silvagni (192cm) out and brought in Sandilands (211cm) and Taberner (197cm). If anything they've gone taller. I think the showers are meant for the morning. Only 1-5mm for the day.

I'm fairly handy at weather forecasting (was tutored by ex BOM meterologist with 40+ years experience) and I just had a check and from what I can see if there is any rainy weather around Perth on sat it will all be morning. Should be fine up fairly quickly after that.

Can someone please tell me if there was a Foxtel Cup game played in WA about a few weeks ago with similar weather? That was unbelievable the players sliding all over the place and literally no goals were scored for a quarter either??

For a rare time this year, I'm actually really excited about this weeks selections. Although shame Grigg is out and mcKay is still in.

Anyone at all the slightets it concerne dthat we probably have the slowest looking side ive seen on papero for years...

Very iffy team on paper, without Tex and Danger we just look so bottom 4-ish..... Dont be seduced by last week....

Im not too sure I agree with you.

We were 5 goals down against the best team in the last 5-6 years and were missing our best two A grade players.

I thought it was character building.

If our season enters into September its that game against the Cats which will make us feel we can beat anyone.

Imagine playing the Tigers at the G in an elimination final. We could do our own ambush like what Sydney did to us.

Win this week and next. The rest of the games will pan out fine for us.

He doesnt have a gold pass to play and I agree.

If he cant sprint he shouldnt be playing. There is only one Darren Jarman.

He's tagged Stephen Hill with some success the last few times

Even if you Tag Hill again this week, your team wont be as successful...

This season Freo has had a plan B if Hill gets tagged. It means that Danyle Pearce and Mzungu have less attention which leads to both of them to getting some disposals and goals.

May as well call the game off and save some money on airfares.

Selections look like Fawlty Towers at the moment. It's hard to take anything the AFC say seriously these days.
Just waiting to see what happens on game day
Rutten out with bruised shoulder ? He must of done that in the warm up against VB
Hartigan in, but they don't have a tall down in their foraward line to play on ?
Thommo in but cant run, on the big ground in the west?
Young fit talented guy like Grigg, Out, dont want those types

Excited with Hartigan thou, hope he does well and I think we can win this week.

How quickly do you reckon

Further than that gets you into Martin, Tambling, Jaensch and Riley, and just beyond that Johnston and McKernan, so how speculative do you think all of those names are?

Right now I'm leaning towards Thompson demanding a trade (for which we could get a 3rd round pick), with Callinan, Martin and possibly Joyce being delisted to go with Johncock retiring. That's 5 changes right there, room for 2 promotions, 2 draft picks and a free agent.

Probably a discussion for a different thread though.
