Happy to take your word on it. Any other news?
Nah. I don't know who's coming in for him, just that he's been dropped. I'd presume Laird will come back in (small defender for small defender?). Don't know about Hendo, but presume he would come in too...maybe that means Lyons out...?

But yeh all I know is about Jaenschy.

As mentioned above, Jaensch has been dropped.

Really? Harsh call. I think Mackay and Wright deserved the axe before MJ I like him off half back. Even up forward he kicked 3 2 weeks ago and didn't play badly on the weekend. If it means Laird is playing I can get over it I guess :rainbow:

Are you advocating a permanent line through Porplyzia?

There are shades of grey in all this. Porplyzia is out of form but he's 28 - he's not part of Dad's Army just yet. If we secretly believe his injury issues mean he's no longer up to it then this is surely a call we make at the end of last year, or at the trade table. Otherwise, he's a vital cog in the team and 28 is not an age to be putting lines through players.

As for Callinan, I still think he offers a specific quality to the team that is irreplaceable at the moment. Sanderson knows this.

Other than that, what you've said is fair enough.

If they aren't up to it isn't doesn't matter what age they are. And for a long while now Porp hasn't seemed up to it.

To Elite Crow I never said he was picked as a marking forward. He came in as a small forward who knows how to lead and kick goals. In a forward line devoid of goalkickers - we needed his ability to kick goals.

Peter J - I never said we picked him because he has pace. We picked him because he is a small forward with experience (and our only proven forward available). Here is a question for you - if the ball goes to ground who do you want around the contest? Between Porps / LJ / Smack / Lynch / JJ give me Porps any day of the week.

We brought Porps in because if we didn't our forward line would consist of 4 Tall forwards (with a wealth of 59 games between the 4 of them) and 2 resting midfielders. So for the Hawks game we should have had LJ / JJ / Lynch / Smack playing up forward? I maintain that forward line is way too tall and slow.

That's all well and good except that Porps played on a wing and in the midfield against the Hawks. I'd like to see him coming out of the forward pocket and help structure and organize our very inexperienced forward line. I don't think he gives anything to the midfield vs. Lyons, kerridge ect and it really plays to his weaknesses ( lack of pace, tackling)

Who would you prefer to see in the final 22 - Jaensch or Laird? That's what it will probably come down to.

Of the 7 players named on the extended interchange, VB & Hendo are almost certain inclusions. I agree with you that Kerridge is also a likely inclusion. That leaves one position in the team. I think Callinan's selection is unlikely. That leaves 2 players and 1 position - Laird vs Jaensch.

My preference would be Laird. Yours would be?

Yeah if it came down to those 2 it would be a tough choice for me :D

I would leave out Mackay and play Jaensch at half back or Porps and play him up forward - yes different type of player i know. Looks like Jaensch has been left out. Very happy Laird gets a game though.

Feel for Matty. Not quite sure that Sando knows where to play him. He is therefore in the gun all the time. Bit like Mattner and Knights were under Craig.

As mentioned above, Jaensch has been dropped.
Is it a definite dropping, or could it just be a case of resting him against weak opponent to give other players a go? He appeared to me to be in good form the past few weeks.

As a BP, I can understand that Laird would be better at defending a Treloar or D Smith than Jaensch as well.

Rory Sloane's SANFL form was fantastic, so I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here. He also received his token game or two before eventually establishing a spot, and seems to be tracking fairly well, so all in all I'm in favour of the approach used there.

My point was that Rory and Jarryd had very similar backgrounds prior to playing their first match with the Crows. One coach put his faith in Rory, played him consistently and look how he has turned out.

After Jarryd's first game he has played 150 minutes of AFL in nearly a season and a half. We don't know if he will be a keeper and we will never find out if we don't give him some decent game time. He can't do any more in the SANFL.

Regarding Jaensch, I think some posters are putting too much value on his 3 goals against Carlton. He looked pretty clueless against their mosquito fleet as a small defender and despite the 3 goals against Carlton he had no impact last week. I would be happy to see Tambling, Porplyzia and Jaensch as the three outs.

I haven't written off Porps (or Jaensch) but I would like to see a couple of BIG games in the SANFL before they are brought back (like Lyons has been playing). Finally, Mackay as the sub.

Are you with me?

I'd hate to see Lyons be managed like Martin Who dominates SANFL but never has had a really good shot at AFL level for one reason or another.

Myke Cook got plenty of games and a shot to show how good he was at AFL level (not very) showed no improvement and then got the boot. We need to give people a really good go before abandoning them to either delist or depth player level.

Drop him to the SANFL to find form, bring him back when he does.

No need to put a line through him, every player goes through a form slump, but we aren't good enough to carry senior players when they're having an extended one.

I cannot believe Jaenschy hasn't been given a prolonged run up forward. He's a natural up there. Look at the wrecking ball thats gone through our forward line. We have a bunch of underperforming smalls and two kids with 30 games between them, yet here we have a natural at reading the ball off a pack and crumbing goals that we persist with putting in the backlines where he is out of his element. Come on Sando.

Petrenko back and Jaenschy forward for mine

Jeansch should have been dropped two weeks ago, but now? Hard to see what the hell is going on to be honest. If he's dropped I would say Callinan in as a small defender. So Larid and Lyons both likely out along with Tambling and Jaensch.

Keep the faith folks, don't start attacking Sando before he's made the decision.

Youth is winning the battle at West Lakes.

Sando's comments:

“We just like ‘Lairdy’. He had a bit of soreness last week and we didn’t want to risk him. It’s good recognition for Laird because his first two games have been really solid,” Sanderson said.
“Tambling is a bit stiff going out after coming in late for Henderson last week, but the back six or seven is starting to settle down a bit and we like what Laird gives us back there.
“We’ve thrown Jaenschy around the last couple of weeks, but with the skipper coming back in someone has to miss out.”
Young midfielder Jarryd Lyons, who played his first game of the season last weekend, receives another opportunity on Sunday.
“Lyons probably played a bit too much forward last week and didn’t get enough time in the midfield,” Sanderson said.
“Even though he was subbed out, he still did some nice things and we want another look at him.”
The Crows will travel to Sydney on Saturday morning and have a light run at Skoda Stadium in the afternoon. The clash between Adelaide and GWS will be the first game at the venue this year.
The Crows have only played at Skoda Stadium once, in Round 16 last season, when they won by 119 points. Sanderson said he expected a closer game on Sunday.
“The Giants have got tons of talent, and they’re going to become very good very quickly,” he said.
“We had a game at Skoda last year, but we’ve got quite a few guys who haven’t played there before. It’s a bit of an egg shape. At one end there are virtually no pockets and at the other end the pockets are really wide, so we’ll have a light run there on Saturday to familiarise ourselves again.”

Jenkins in doubt so Hendo a good chance to come in.

Lyons, Laird and Kerridge playing so quite a few all worked up yesterday for no reason :D Sando has played the kids all year when they have deserved a chance so apologies are in order.

Jaensch extremely stiff.

Good changes

However, I still don't and have never seen the need to pick a squad of 25 players.

Why not just come out and say, these are our in's and they are out outs and these 3 guys are out emergencies. It's only 24 hours, they are not going to trick anyone but they still feel the need to be all secret about it. It's pointless.

Good post.

Agree on Jaensch, but as Sando said, someone had to make way. I think it was a case of, we know what Jaenschy can do, send him to the Snaffle to work on a few deficiencies as give guys like Laird and Lyons a fair shot at it. If Porps/Mackay/Wright don't lift their games he'll come back in.
