As opposed to Impey, Neade, S. Gray, Young etc who've been absolutely carving it up
Impey - yes he's hot and cold but even this year has had a few very good games: Brisbane, WCE, Hawks, Collingwood. I won't deny that he's iffy but he has shown enough over the last 2 years that he can produce quality at the top level at least.

Neade - Not really going to defend him too much, but at least he's improved his consistency. But yeah, he's one guy that we probably know isn't going to really cut it at the top level.

Gray - I just don't really get the hate. He's not been great but he's certainly doing his bit. Averaging 18.4 touches at 68% and kicked at least one goal in each of the last 11 matches. Certainly not out of his depth at AFL level.

Young - Has actually been dropped for not being good enough - twice. So he kind of counters your argument.

got the gauld up to watch the replay last night
Gee Houston chickened out of a couple of contests - watching it live I thought he was really good
Pittard was better than what I saw live
And I actually reckon Trengove did a pretty reasonable job on Rance - particularly just before half time. But again watching live I was completely frustrated

Different eras obviously, but there wouldn't have been too many if any Port player, who `chickened out of a couple of contests,' getting a gig in the next game under the Fos or Jack Cahill regimes.

They would have both been absolutely brutal in their assessment of a player who did that.

I'd be thinking similar to the other posts on here.

Out: Hartlett (injured), Neade
In: Hombsch, Eddy

Trengove should to go back to defence. Westhoff moves from his current role to up forward and see how he goes this week (change at half time if this falls flat).
Wingard returns back to the forward line. This is no fault of Wingard himself but I think I'd much rather R. Gray in the centre (although I'm not sure he's fit). This gives us a better scoring option in Wingard.

I hope we've spent the week practising two things at training.
1. How to lead from the forward line, and,
2. How to hit said lead.

something about Eddy, Hombsch bad goal kicking, Trent Henschell and a mind coach in this little package.

Well considering Hartlett was just about BOG, until he got injured, in a crunch game for a top 4 spot I'd say he doesn't deserve the level of flak he is copping in this week's changes thread.
It's one less half back type is what I was getting at

good enough reason not to take him, he hasn't produced two weeks in a row for a very long time.

How is it a shock recall.. played well all year, kicked 9 goals in two weeks against the two best sanfl sides, both in games where the team as a whole were ordinary.. I'd say it's an obvious call up.

What would Eddy's return have to be in Perth to not get dropped the following week? I reckon he needs at least 4 if he gets called up going on Kern of seasons past.

Was thinking the same thing hard gig to come in a turn it on. He needs a fair go as you say at least 4 games.

For all we know it's been Nicks and others asking for Eddy and Ken saying no.

There has been so many chances for the selectors to make a statement and they just don't pull the trigger. Deep down I just feel they'll do the standard Hombsch for Hartlett and "back the players" to turn it around.

Yes...was going to post about how Houston obviously pulled out of a few contests but felt the other areas of his game were ok.
Im sure (hope) the coaches will make a point of his mistake. If he can add a more competitive hard edge then he will be even more valuable. His kicking is sweet.

I would say we were outcoached in that game. As soon as Hartlett went off Trengove should have been put into his loose defender role. He did OK on Rance in the first half but was not doing much in the second half. Not that Rance was either.

86 pressure acts. 22 times running to the right position when not on tv

Pittard out
Granger in

It's hard to believe that those two are close to the same playing height and weight.

One terrorised opposition players, the other terrorises his own supporters. ;)

he has been pathetic for two years. I am prepared to take a more wholistic view. We will be a better side with him not in it.
