Certainly did, many a half kinda effort when body was required.

I like him. Love his 3rd man up marking, composed and lovely kick, but there's a glaring weakness that needs to be addressed asap.

Without the intent or desire to do the hard stuff he won't make it.
yeh i like him, great mark, great kick, lacks a bit of courage, wont cut it in finals footy, he really needs to be dropped now
The other bloke I like is Impey, but the lad has lost all his confidence around goal. Really DBJ could go out and Impey back again. Just wish he would get confidant, you only live once, no point reflecting on life and thinking I coulda been..

Lee Gaskin @Lee_Gaskin1

Port Adelaide winger Karl Amon another week or two from returning from a knee injury. Trip to Perth may work against Hamish Hartlett (quad)

Hammer for hombsch is one obvious change here

My worry for Eddy is our inability to hit up a leading forward. Maybe it is chicken and egg, we dont have one, so we dont do it... cos if he is on the end of our haphazard fwd entries, then he is probably one week in and dropped.

Looking at our leading previous goal kickers from the last 3 years:

2016
Chad W
A Young
Charlie Dixon
Robbie G
Justin Westhoff

2015

Chad W
Schulz
Justin Westhoff
Robbie G
Monfries
Ryder

2014

Schulz
Chad W
Robbie G
Justin Westhoff
White
Monfries

It's not that hard to see why we are failing to convert is it (relying on too few). Chad plays centre most of the time, Aarong Young's years is terrible, Schulz is retired, Westhoff mostly plays back now and swapped with Trengove and Ryder plays forward as a last resort, not to mention Monfries yet to play a game, yet we have also recruited Eddy who's our best scorer in the SANFL and he can't buy a game.

We are simply relying on too few (R Gray and Dixon) - and the other forwards can't convert (yes you S Gray).

The above lists contain players which seem consistent in those years, yet you can basically take out Schulz, Wingard, Westhoff, Monfries, White and Ryder as genuine forward players this year, yet really we have replaced them with nobody else apart from Trengove who isn't a forward.

Lets face it, the coaches can't continue on the same path or we are dead in the water, blind Freddy can see that.

I hope they realise it's a 4 week venture, not one week, kicks 1 goal and he's out. The reality is if he does come in and kick 4 goals, that's 3 more than Sam Gray.

Watch 7 news tonight: "How a Sports Psychologist is fixing Port's goal kicking woes"

To be fair, he did look thoroughly out of his depth in those first 3 games. I don't have too much of a problem with him being left out for a while - but he has done enough to earn another call up, for sure.

I didn't think he did too much wrong in those first 3 games. Even if he wasn't kicking massive bags, he straightened us up massively and it's no coincidence that those first 3 weeks of the year is the best we've looked as a team (beat Sydney away, belted Freo, took it right up to the Crows who were flying).

Get him back in and leave him in, Ken.

Nicks's actual quote relating to the possible inclusion of Eddy is a little less optimistic

"That may be something we do look at."

Maybe he just likes to understate things. That apartment complex in London, they might have needed to look into a better sprinkler system.

This board amazes me sometimes. Whinging about supposed gold passes of certain players and then at the same time making excuses for players if they come in and put in poor efforts.

I love that Eddy is being given another go and I do hope he gets given more than one game to prove himself & I'm really excited about what he can offer. But we need to be realistic here, he got dropped for a reason. His first 3 games he averaged a goal a game and 7 disposals, he was literally Jake Neade but without the defensive pressure & half the disposals, but that's all fine because he's tall?

If he puts in the same performance for the next 3 games he absolutely should not get a fourth.

Well the media do love to run with such things and blow them out of all proportion. Perhaps Ken's hand will be forced. I would really love to see Gus get a go.

I think what this board is upset about is that all Ken seems to worry about is "defensive pressure". How much "defensive pressure" does Kennedy of WCE provide, or Taylor Walker, or Tom Hawkins? About the same amount as Brett Eddy, I would have thought. Not saying Eddy is on the same level as these blokes, but he plays the same way in that he is a goal-kicker. Not a small defensive forward.

Why draft Eddy in the the first place if you're not going to play him for what he is - a natural lead-up goal-kicker.

Sick of Ken trying to turn all these players into something they're not.

When asked about our goal kicking problems and whether that opens the door for Eddy, Nicks said:

"Brett's performing well in that space... he's a quality player, quality finisher. So it's a round peg, round hole. That might be something that we do have a look at."

I think the fact that he even said round peg round hole, and the extent to which he talked about our deficiencies up forward in general, suggests that Eddy's very much in the frame.

Absolutely. If he's kicking 3 goals a game I don't care if he does anything else, and I sincerely hope he does. My fear though is that he comes in and only kicks a goal a game but doesn't offer much else and if that's the case he's going to be a liability. It's definitely worth trying though and probably should've been tried earlier.

if by some miracle Ken brings in another tall forward this week, & things go how we all expect with our inept ability to hit a target inside 50. i fear it'll be justification forever in Ken's head that we shouldn't play another tall.

our KPF narrative so far under Ken.

13/14: a great leading, dead eye dick forward(in need of a contested marking partner). an inconsistent floating chf who got lost floating into the abyss too many times. an erratic contested marking forward in desperate need of games.

15: sam gray.. & a wounded schulz. a floating chf who had floated to the place of no return.

16/17: a contested marking forward. a defensive forward/part time ruckman. no leading, dead eye dick forward to compliment the contested marking forward we acquired.

here's to the 25 & 22 year old Dougal & Marshall hopefully finally giving us some balance.

Bullshit! It's a good way to kill a culture

Which culture is that?

The one where players don't have to work hard?

Or is it the one where it's OK to ruin the teams good work through or finishing?

Maybe you mean the one where tryin hard is paramount and execution isn't important ?

I get what you mean but the ship is sailing off in to the horizon for these players, it may be time to cut out losses.

We will not get back to being what we once were unless we are prepared to make the tough decisions, te ones that can upset the apple cart initially but pay off big time in the long term.

I know that the Richmond game has made us all feel pretty flat. However we all saw it coming for a fair while. The problems were easily noticed in the games we have won.

"The Power continues to be the No.1 team for taking the ball inside 50 averaging 61.1 per game - a long way ahead of the Eagles, who are ranked 13th (51.1)."

Our backs and mids are doing pretty well. Our forward line stinks. Dixon & Robbie are great but it ends there. We need more dangerous and reliable forwards playing. We have them. Eddy, Dougal, Gus

Problem is the coaches are just not brave enough with the really tough selection decisions.

Example 1. Trengove is not a very good tall forward. Trengove is a great back. But we don't want to change our backs as our current players are doing an awesome job. So we keep him in the team at the expense of our scoring power. A tough decision must be made. Why not put a genuine tall forward in. Keep Jacko as a dedicated 2nd Ruck. He can then roam forward/back/ruck/bench as required. (I would do this at the cost of another tall but that is another matter).
