but when it is a tall (Trengove on Rance) doing it to one of the best the business has ever seen, it is suddenly perceived to be madness... anyway I digress.

I didn't mind the tactic, and it worked a bit in the first half. Once Rance got over it and stopped trying to cover Dixon it stopped, because we were targetting Trengove who got smashed.

It probably would have been fine if we didn't have S Gray, Neade, Impey who are all primarily defensive also.

At the risk of repeating 70% of posts in this thread, the difference between the "Ken's doing a great job" and "WTF is Ken doing" crowd on here is one change from the selected team: one of Neade/S.Pray/Impey out for one of Howard/Eddy/Frampton/Marshall. Maybe we're wrong and that would completely throw the balance of the side out and wreck everything but WE AREN'T ****ING WINNING AGAINST TOP EIGHT SIDES THE WAY IT IS ANYWAY. That's the big thing, we've looked toothless going forward against good opposition for two years straight now and we're still refusing to even try something different.

We saw against Freo that we can still blow away the shit teams with three tall forwards just as much as we do with two, so why don't we just give it a go? Why do we have to go on watching our beloved team lose in exactly the same predictable fashion every week when with one change we can at least lose in a completely new and interesting way.

Trengove is the emergency KPF/ruck in any scenario I am going to put up.

Look, you just don't get it. Good on you for supporting Ken to the end though.

You are disappointed we aren't playing a 27 year old min wage rookie because you think that is the difference between us and a premiership and I don't get it. Haha you have brightened up my day.

Don't confuse me agreeing with some of the whole coaching panel's decisions with me supporting Ken to the end. I would drop pittard as he is out of form and we have too many defenders, put Jackson back and out Howard in. And give Eddy another preseason and a chance next season if he improves his all round game this season.

Yep.
46.7% of inside 50s end in scores.
23.5% of inside 50s end in goals.

Adelaide top of both with scores per i50 at 51.5% and goals per inside 50 at 28.6%
That's impossible, Adelaide play more than 1 tall forward. Think someone is pulling your leg with those stats.

Ah good. The old I don't agree with you so you obviously cannot form your own opinion and rely on 'groupthink' brigade is back. Just adds to the joy of Port Adelaide football right now.

i love trengove, but as a defender. last year he had a great year, this year he has been average. You figure out for yourself if the experiment is working.

If howard is kicking bags, then he deserves a shot. if we have tall forwards punishing us, then we need a taller backman.

Eddy won't be travelling to Perth.

Atley will be an interesting selection - one that I like, but it doesn't directly address the "balance" issues we have with our side and the lack of class/polish/nous in our forward line.
What I like if Atley does play is that it should free up Chad to play fwd. We all know how good Chad is as he does play 'tall' with his marking ability and is our best converter for goal and he does apply fwd pressure. I can only HOPE Atley plays

Maybe, but it would have been useful to have seen Eddy get an extended chance to find out.
Who knows he might have been a revelation. Some on here closer to the club have described Ken as arrogant and stubborn.
Aren't we lucky.
You know, this basically was my whole post if you didn't take this bit out of context lol

I missed this week's clique meeting. Which side of the argument are we supposed to be on?

Austin (196 cm) and Howard (199 cm) both debuted in their second season on our list.

Frampton (200 cm) is in his third season on our list and is yet to debut but that is not unusual for a developing ruckman. Lobbe debuted in his third season and there are many talls across the AFL that took a few years to get a debut.

Marshall (198 cm) is in his first season and is still effectively a skinny kid. Ladhams (203 cm) is on the rookie list.

Although Ken seems to have an obsession with short people the evidence is not there to support any tall dreading being drafted to Ports.
I suppose so far you are correct but over time we will have a better idea.

Eddy leading the Ken Farmer is literally irrelevant.

None of our tall forwards in the reserves are ready to play AFL this week. If they were they would be selected, suggesting otherwise is just conspiracy theory bullshit.
Howard was ready to play AFL last year and the coaches agreed as such. He's had more than enough time back from injury. What's the purpose of this blind contrarianism?

Things are pretty grim on here atm, much like the weather. Maybe a collective deep breath and wait 'til we see how Sunday's game
plays out. Incidently as of last night there was plenty of negativity on the WCE's board for this game. So both groups of supporters
are antsy.

No, I don't want Eddy on our list. I want someone who can ruck and is decent up forward, so that we aren't ****ed If Ryder or Dixon go down. And I also want Marshall being blooded ahead of players we will delist like Aidyn Johnson.

A lot of the focus seems to be on the tall forward structure (and rightfully so), but the lack of Angus Monfries in this team is equally as puzzling. They are different players but surely it'd be almost impossible to argue that Jake Neade creates a better net average return than Monfries would? Pressure acts are meaningless if you can't actually score from the resulting turnover.

Talls should know by now if you are drafted by Port Adelaide no matter how well you do even when you get in the AFL team you won't stay in it and you'll have to climb an impossible mountain to just get considered. Logan Austin played well last year, can't even get a look in even when we lose our KPD etc, just a complete waste of time getting drafted to PAFC as a tall especially under Hinkley.

Howard is the man you want! We have him.

In all seriousness they are extremely hard to get that's why swans overpaid for tippet and hawks vickery. At least our backup was min wage.

*edit
And why Richmond only use one key forward

All this talk of tall forwards not being "ready" is stupid.

We aren't in a development year. We're in a year where we should be competing for the flag.

Eddy is 27 years old and was selected as a mature age recruit. He's as ready as he ever will be, barring some natural fitness improvement. Howard has previously been selected in the side, and is fit and moving well after recovering from injury.

We're currently playing a defender who isn't a natural forward by any stretch as a 2nd KPF and it is actively costing us a top 4 spot at the moment and might cost us a flag. It's not Jackson's fault, it's a list management f***up, but we all recognise that he isn't working as a forward. Players are ready because they are in form in the reserves and we need to fill their position in the AFL side.

These aren't green, 18yo first year beanpoles. Both are more than capable of playing a role in our side and both would improve our forward line right now.

Ken needs to be sacked because he's throwing away a chance at winning a flag because he's too gutless and pigheaded to move his tall players around to accomodate the natural KPF we're crying out for.

Howard was named as an emergency last week so they must think he is ready. How Ken looked at his emergencies and decide to bring in Neade over Howard is beyond me.

The idea that Richmond are not very tall so we'll go short also is like the concept of a pair in politics. We wouldn't want to exploit a possible weakness in the opposition

Look Eddy was way out of his depth in the couple of games he played which I think burnt his chances of a re-selection with the coaches. What frustates someone like me is that we didn't go after any tall KPF's in the off season, the club signalled early on they were gonna pick him up, they gave him a prominent role in the preseason and thus upgraded him and then seemed to discover he isn't up to AFL standard and sent him to the magoo's for good. Now if it's because as they said his fitness wasn't quite there so he couldn't defend enough then surely now after all the investment and complete disregard for filling a KPF with anyone else the club has the chance to play him for 3 or 4 weeks in a row and see if he can adjust otherwise the entire exercise has been completely and utterly a waste of everyone's time.
