Clement makes remarkable recovery

Collingwood defender James Clement, who nearly lost sight in one eye and was expected to miss up to eight weeks, made a surprise appearance at training yesterday, raising the slim possibility of playing in the season opener against Richmond on Friday night.

Clement trained at Collingwood's closed session, after a remarkable recovery from the eye injury.

Up until now, the club has ruled Clement out for round one and listed him as "indefinite" on the injury list; he had been expected to miss at least the first three games. His return to training raises the possibility of an earlier inclusion in the team.

He hurt his eye in a practice match against Melbourne 11 days ago.

At the club's recent family day, coach Mick Malthouse and president Eddie McGuire told supporters they had feared that Clement might lose sight in the eye, having suffered internal bleeding.

Great news, but for the sake of his long term health lets hope we don't see him for a few more weeks.

He can wear goggles. :D

I don't think the club would play him if they thought his long term health was at risk.
Thats right. This is Collingwood after all, not Brisbane!

If the club don't think he is ready he won't play, but if he has recovered sufficiently he would be welcomed back into the backline with open arms.
