It's far from perfect but would you rather be poor in Australia or poor in Venezuela? Russia? China? There's a reason the migration flows only in one direction from socialist to capitalist countries m8.
Is that your list of socialist countries in 2022?

People were starving. Selling their kids.

It was a complete failure of capitalism. It required massive government spending to get the world economy started again.

This sort of thing is still happening whenever some country or other has a bad crop yield.

If this is the best we can do, it's pretty poor.

In your lifetime do you believe there has been a problem with food supply in Australia ?

If there is a economic system that would create a more stable food supply I am happy to hear it but I don't think it exists.

Most workers involved in the process of getting food all the way from the farms to our shopping basket do not love their jobs. I work in this industry. I would genuinely be fearful that under anither economic model you would have a breakdown at some point in the supply chain.

It's generally good. If you have money. But right now there is no real reason everyone shouldn't be able to eat. Capitalism generally goes for low-hanging fruit which leaves too many people in the too hard basket. It's a sociopathic system.

Tell people on welfare in this country how easy and reliable capitalism has made food supply for them
You know the system that has built in unemployment but not built in support for unemployed people

I accept that but this is more a case about providing people with a greater safety net. Unless I misunderstood your advocating we completely move away from our capitalist economy to something else.

Does the economic system provide $$$$$, shitloads of $$$$$$ to farmers when we have droughts?
No.
Socialism steps in.
So let's not pretend that it is the economic system that is responsible for the food supply.
If our food supply was left to the economic system it would have collapsed decades ago.

How is socialism stepping in ? Socialism is were the state owns the means of production.

There is a large number of people involved in our food supply chain. These people require a incentive to work. I strongly believe that capitalism provides the strongest incentive.

If you have an alternative model I am happy to hear it.

Yeah, that's what I understood socialism as, state ownership, but giving taxpayer money to farmers isn't socialism; it's economic aid. I think you'll find even the most ardent right-wingers aren't opposed to economic aid for farmers. It's who "deserves" aid where people get divided.

I would love to see the data on how much you could raise from a tax system that taxes only carbon, capital gains, land value, and payment microtransactions but abolishes income, sales, payroll, property, and stamp duty taxes. It's obvious to me that any "tax the rich" plan isn't going to gain bipartisan public support if they are also paying more tax too.

Lol
The meme is genius.
Musk is becoming hilarious, he has trolled David Rothschilds a few times. The surname is from a family well above the musk & oligarch power of command of this world

Agriculture has been the most subsidised industry in the world, for a hundred years.
No govt subsidies. No agriculture. It is that simple.
That is as state owned as you can get.

Care to provide and examples where socialism has been a success?

When has it been tried properly?

I don't think socialism is ever going to work, but the idea that the only option is "capitalism" is varying degrees of wrong depending on which flavour of capitalism is in place.

Privatising gains and socialising losses happens far too often. Musk got BILLIONS in public money. Where is the return on that investment for the public?

What’s the difference between communism and socialism? Communism has been tried and tested several times over in many different forms. China has hadseveral attempts and ended up with a communist party running a mostly capitalist globalist system
North Korea and South Korea or East and west Germany

Both systems need each bother and closest we have seen Is Scandinavian systems but that is small population, largely capitalist in a socialist eco system

I don’t know about the musk situation to to really comment, but if it’s for space ex, the government services aren’t really known for philanthropy or efficiency and the rockets will most like be for government use

This is the guy who walked out on Trumps advisory council when Trump pulled out of the Paris Agreement, right? Wait until he clamps down on climate change deniers so he can sell more EVs, then watch people’s heads explode.

Pump it into Tesla shares. They’ll bottom out while he roots around for the cash to finance this whole megillah- but it’ll be up, up and away after that. If Trump could grift all that money from the rubes, how easy is this guy going to find it? He’ll be selling electric cars to pick-up truck drivers in Butt* Alabama before you know it.
