Was looking at some balls faced stats today. Bancroft has played a bunch of absolute marathon innings for WA and Durham this season and managed to face 2550 balls in 25 innings. Sibley has played 5 innings less and faced an absolutely insane 2800 balls. The poms are insane for picking Roy over him for this match.
Exactly. If you still believe one of the openers' main functions is to blunt the new ball attack then Sibley's the man.

Rory Burns' technique is all kinds of yuck. Almost as bad as his namesake Joe's.

Nice start for the Irish, 2 wickets inside the first hour.

As painful as our batting is, the English will have no answer for Cummins...

Was just coming here to say that. How has he made county runs? That backlift is atrocious.
Yes! Bat up techniques are as a rule ugly but you combine it with the fact his bat comes from gully, that weird thing he does with his head and his front leg going across the pitch and it is not good for the aesthetics.

You win the toss, you put yourselves in, your one solitary objective is to get through the morning session one down at worst.

England 42 for 4.

Murtagh wins the battle of the ex Easts cricketers against Jason Roy.

England 4-down now. What a start for the mighty Irish. Inspiration from Shane Lowry!!

Quick question:

Bairstow is being told he is standing on the danger area of the pitch, and has been told to get back in his box... unusual ... And now he's withdrawn at the point of delivery, and had his stumps splattered! Well, this is lively

Was Bairstow batting so far out of his crease as to be in the danger area? Murtagh is a genuine medium pace trundler, but that is unusual.

maybe he was batting for the slope

The 6 bowlers tactic proving a masterstroke again for England.

Yes, Bairstow has been officially warned apparently.
