Autopsy flogged by hawks, back to game over at half time times

A statement needs to be made at selection. The standard has been raised the last 8 weeks, to accept that performance and drop 1-2 fringe players would be a bigger step backwards than the actual performance tonight. They can't condone that effort

Game felt like it went on for over 10 hours. 1st qtr sat down with coffee and apple tea cake from Ferguson Plarre. Knew after 5 minutes that we were ****ed today. At qtr time got the Greek salad ready for dinner. 2nd qtr was starring at tv rather watching, seen this shit all before. At half time started packing as going to GC next week. Sat down to watch end of 3rd qtr when suddenly I woke up half way through the last. **** this I said I'm going down the road to get the gyros for dinner. Don't know why but I was listening to the last 5 minutes in the car. 'Mr Souv' in Bundoora does very good gyros if anyone is wondering.
Yeah shithouse performance but I'm not getting carried away after a decent 6 week period. We are a long long way off still.

Hawthorn are a bottom half of the eight club. Not close to a contender.

We are so far from being competitive with the best sides (except Brisbane weirdly) that there is no chance to close the gap.

And Hawthorn aren’t one of them. Neither are Sydney or the Gold Coast.

As soon as a club has: dynamic midfield + elusive HB + agile small forwards = we get fist ****ed.

The writing was on the wall in the 1st Q, multiple players losing their footing, LDU, a roundhouse to the guts, Curtis, a shoulder to the jaw, no free kicks, how many free kicks do we give away at centre bounces ? some obviously warranted, but most, soft as crap, multiple broken tackles, when we could be bothered trying to lay one, and no reward for the rare time we nailed one, zero pressure on the ball carrier consistently, and they have the players to make you pay for that.

1 step forward, at least 5-6 backwards, it's really only a 4 day break till Thursday, so i wont compain if the axe is swung at selection.

Looks like they took down the photo of the boys going off the field with McDonald smiling his arse off. And they've blocked it for comments!
Why do we continue to torture ourselves after losses with this take? We 100% know that LMac, for all his shortcomings, is the most heart and soul player on the team. He never ever shirks a contest. If a truck ran over him, he’d get up with that same grimace that resembles a smile. If it were indeed a smile, it would have been knocked out of him years ago. It would constantly get commented on in the media. They absolutely love to dwell on that sort of thing, we know that.

Felt like a complete reversion to last year's woes, right down to Larkey and LDU having good individual games in a match where nothing could be called a 'good team game'.

Every team has down days. You could cop a loss here, even a fairly bad loss, as part of the rebuilding process - especially when the opposition plays their game well and neutralises your strengths, which Hawthorn did today. But the irrefutable step forward we're all still holding out for will never arrive as long as we continue to be this conditional about whether we bother to try, this easy to demoralise. Far too many half-efforts (especially in the centre) and disorganised structures (especially in the backline) today, and there hasn't been enough in our 'improved' form to be confident that this was just a lapse - the uptick over the preceding eight weeks or so has been nice, but not 'credits in the bank' nice.

I'm not sure there's much that's new to be said. I can't fathom how we still show so little resilience the moment momentum turns against us, like we did again today. The last eight weeks or so, it seemed like we were gradually building into something hardier, finding ways to crowd out the ever-shrinking periods where we allowed opposition run-ons - none of that was evident today, they started well and it seemed like we dropped our heads pretty quickly. Change may not be linear, but you'd like to think the line doesn't just periodically plummet down this far along the way - and with a 5-day break into playing another finals contender next week, it's vital we don't repeat it again if we still want to think we're on the way up.

Runs around getting his. Not a team player
He (LDU) did the same against West Coast - really bad defensive effort. Then against Freo, he had a real go. But today he relapsed, back to being completely lazy, one tackle despite the Hawks having all the ball and applied below average pressure. People see his 28 touches and think he played well - he was completely unaccountable in aside that lost by 85 points.

Until his mentality changes, we're going nowhere. The other mids are just as flakey defensively and the consequences are we're 16th.

One game doesn’t prove anything definitive - good or bad. What happens for the rest of the season? Bring the good game and we can beat teams that are not at this level, and even challenge the very good teams for at least part of games. Don’t show up and anyone can beat us, and the good teams will beat us badly.

That was mostly pretty sickening and I don’t really want to think about it any more.

See you Thursday night.
I’ll admit it was a fair bit worse than I was prepared to stomach. Unfortunately, shipping 5.0 in the first 15 minutes in a venue like that, ensured it was going to be very ugly infeed.

Nothing wrong with what he said. 100% they have most likely had harder training sessions.

This game was over before they took the field. They know Hawthorn run hard and couldn’t be ****ed having to work hard so they flew the white flag.

It’s the exact mentality that hold this group back. As soon as they think they can’t win, they give up.

Today they didn’t think they could win before they set foot on the ground.
Apparently

Wardlaw was subbed off in the second quarter after he was hit be a legal Conor Nash bump.

I think if you scone someone the bump can’t be legal. Not sure if you also do the hit after the whistle has blown for a free. Or if your shoulder hits them in the head and they are subbed off with concussion.

wardlaw was the one who initiated the contact, nothing to see here,

So, last week, the narrative was “The Kangaroos are making great progress. It’s never linear, you’re going to have your bad games when you’re a young team”. This week, when North have a bad game, “Shameful display by the Kangaroos”. We suck it all up and amplify it on here, while supposedly hating the AFL media.

This was very bad though.

But a 196+ early pick might have helped for the future. We haven’t picked a top 5 tall ever have we? I’m all in on Whitlock, but we kinda gotta be.
Yeah. Duursma over Caddy was a mistake. Should've reached. I'm neither here nor there on McDonald. His best attribute is out-the-back goals. Centrelink Larkey

The North Melbourne Two Step, one forward, so many back.

neither of them would have made a peep of difference and realistically this trade will be judged on 4 or 5 years time, persoanlly i think zanes ceiling is higher than caddys,

but if we must focus on drafting with regard to todays result just look at newcombe, other than wardlaw who is in a form slump and injuries plagued period there are simply no mids we have that can go with him, has totallly torched us the last 5 times he has played against us.

It's pretty simple - when we play a quality team who brings anything near it's A game, we have absolutely NFI offensively or defensively. Hence, we haven't upset a Top 8 team in years.
We have had many games where decent teams have come in half-baked - Pies in '24, Pies, Freo & Lions in '25 etc. & we still cannot find a way to cause an upset. We're ok against the rubbish teams around us, which seems to satisfy the hunger of the club & a lot of its fan-base. But that's really where we are at.

I'll get back to the basic of all basics - you just need to look at the ladder to find out how good we are. And as we sit here tonight, there are only 2 teams worse than us in the league.
