I know when I was involved at Grade level, a long time ago now, the SACA asked clubs to consider merging. I know that only 2 clubs, Glenelg and Sturt were seriously considering it. And these were 2 of the stronger clubs at the time. The other clubs weren't interested.
We have odd number of teams meaning the bye, and if it's a 2-week game, that's an entire fortnight a player has no cricket. Then we have a team who has no junior program and survive by taking players from other clubs. How that's good for the game is anyone's guess.
