I know when I was involved at Grade level, a long time ago now, the SACA asked clubs to consider merging. I know that only 2 clubs, Glenelg and Sturt were seriously considering it. And these were 2 of the stronger clubs at the time. The other clubs weren't interested.I believe Melbourne and Sydney reduced their district teams years ago through amalgamations.....yet our pig headed clubs continue to oppose any such moves. Nothing will change whilst this thought process continues.
We have odd number of teams meaning the bye, and if it's a 2-week game, that's an entire fortnight a player has no cricket. Then we have a team who has no junior program and survive by taking players from other clubs. How that's good for the game is anyone's guess.
