Autopsy Geelong QF loses to Richmond by 51 points

Possibly the only positive i can think of is if Geelong channels their inner John Bertrands, and says after the Yanks won race 4 of the America's Cup.....Nothing has changed, last night we had three boat races to win. Tonight, we still have three boat races to win.

Difference is we had a better boat. Sadly I think we have a tinny coming up against a high powered slick speed boat this week. Hope like crazy we could win this but there is a huge difference in the 2 teams - they have class everywhere.

Yes, some supporters think we're better than we are. I don't think that. I'm not a Scott hater, yet still believe we need to improve in lots of areas.

So you're asking if only some supporters think we're better than we are? Perhaps too many, but supporters who had no doubt we'd beat Richmond on Friday night, who thought it'd be a cake walk, + those who believe we'll beat Sydney next Friday night, obviously think we're better than we are, yes?
I don't post that often because I try to avoid the circle jerk.

A lot of our supporters need to look at themselves IMO.

I bet at least a quarter of them fap to the AFL record whilst screaming Dangerwood.

In this thread alone I've been told I don't know shit about football and I can't say anything about Selwood...

Whatever, we're getting arrogant like Scotty.

Is there any basis to a rumour about Menzel being out this week for disciplinary reasons?
Totally agree with your post btw.
Vdubs, I posted that Menzel was punished for celebrating after the last win, but I also said there are probably another 500 rumours guessing about his omission. I also said Hocking stated his omission was due to team structure + nothing sinister was going on with Menzel.

I think we can beat Sydney realistically but I also think it's worth packing the lube...

If we can beat Sydney, we can beat anyone.

Guthrie out.
Cockatoo out season
Kolo oossible out
Can see Menzel and Thurlow as ins, maybe Stanley.
That sucks. Poor Guthrie. Just like Brodie Smith, not what you want in finals.

Pre-game I said whatever happens, hopefully there's no injuries to either team. Really sorry you guys ended up with one

I doubt them all to be honest.

I like Smith but he's not the answer to any of our problems.

I'd rather Kolo back, Parsons on the wing and Stewart forward if we want forward pressure.

Should have done this at half time against Richmond IMO.

Smith would bring some much needed class to our midfield and forward lines for a start. He's got terrific skills by hand and foot - both attributes we were missing on Friday night. He's still got room for improvement but to say he wouldn't address any of our problems, in my opinion, is just wrong.

also heard he did that.
Never heard of a player being disciplined via match suspension over something like a night out and it being kept secret so it can make the coach look like a dick by "mysteriously" not selecting said player. Amazing that this has slipped out AFTER we lost without him in the forward line. Why the hell would the club keep that secret especially when they apparently want him out, anyway?

Ignore those who say you know nothing about footy, you've had more posters applaud your posts.

When someone makes a personally aimed criticism like that, it's usually because they arrogantly think they know better - they don't, opinions are all conjecture here. Or they have no way to rationally discuss their argument, so they resort to bagging - that means you've won lol

Supporters, who assume we're going to win - especially in Richmond game preview thread really annoy me. I love people with fervour, who love Geelong, or those who explain why they believe Geelong will win. But those who jufst post stuff like 'Geelong by 99 points!' are either arrogant or ignorant or both! I'm hoping for realistic, intelligent + considered discussion for the Swans preview. Less arrogance + more sense lol

But I'm from the generation taught not to count your chickens before they're hatched lol

PS 'fap' you taught me a new word ;)

I think we can beat Sydney too, as long as we realistically stop playing the same crap game against them.

He averages 10 possessions a game and 0.9 goals.

But people shit on Parsons????!

How did other "small" forwards fare in that area historically?
Varcoe, when he first started, hardly any possessions. All about his pressure acts.
Parsons btw, was our highest contributor to the score board.
He is playing in a very difficult position to amass stats. Friday night was near impossible. If he got dropped on that performance it would be harsh. Nobody scored more than he did.
I remember being so frustrated with Varcoe until someone explained his role - pressure acts, as you say. Wish we had a Varcoe!

Would be very harsh, considering + comparing other players failure.

What do you think Parsons' role should be, Vdubs?

I don't care what they think to be honest, life is too short!

People think football is a game of life or death, they're wrong...it's much more important than that-Bill Shankly

To be honest, if we'd won I wouldn't have posted!

Agreed. I love to discuss footy but often people start getting personal in a debate. When it gets to this, I don't think there's much point discussing further with that poster as they can't be objective any more. It becomes about trying to belittle a person rather than talk about the topic at hand. Just ignore the idiots that get personal Pack Specialist and you will have a much better time. As Hell Kitty put so well above, these are just people's opinions. Some cannot just see your point of view and concede theirs is different without having a go at you - it's not worth feeding those posters.

Excellent, but why post that people tell you you know nothing?
I hope it's Richmond but they'll choke.

Sydney will most likely win it IMO.
We did a pretty good impression of a choke on Friday night

Yes we were the away team in every regard.

They even got the scoreboard sponsorship...

WTF?

It's all irrelevant now I know, but the only thing Geelong was given was to bring our Bell? Nothing else?

If you're talking about Chemist warehouse, it's been the "away" goal sponsor all year at all MCG and Etihad games for every single away game. So, not a Richmond sponsor.

If he felt fine pre game why should he have withdrawn? If he had withdrawn there's an argument that his season was over due missing too much game time. If he and the medicos said he was good to go then he had to play.

That's fair. If he had passed all the tests, and medical team gave him a tick, then fine. He's fit to play. But he must be judged accordingly. Which means he was poor on Friday night and there are no excuses.

Perhaps you are correct - our list just isn't good enough. I certainly think that our skill level, particularly under pressure, is severely lacking. Particularly our kicking. Our top end looks as good as anyones - Dangerfield, J.Selwood, Duncan, Hawkins, Henderson, Tuohy, Menzel. It's the drop off after that where we struggle - it was noticeable against the Tigers that when the pressure went up the likes of Stewart, Parsons, Kolo, Blicavs, Murdoch and Menegola went missing or even worse made horrendous errors. Perhaps a bit unfair on the first two as they are young and inexperienced but they are still part of the team.

Stewart and Parsons perhaps, it was their first final. Kolodjashnij and Menegola get a fraction more lenience (but not much), and the last two get none at all.

If we can beat Sydney, we can beat anyone.

The issue with Sydney is, even if you manage to wrestle the lead back in your favor and you can contain Franklin, Kennedy and Parker, their second tier group of players are so much more productive than what we have.
Lloyd, Reid, Mills, Jones, Rohan, these are the guys that are creating headaches for even the best teams such as Adelaide.

Geelong would have to get the best games out of Selwood, Dangerfield, Duncan, Motlop, Menegola to even keep their noses in front.

Their depth is so strong right now they can keep Tippett in the reserves while Sinclair stars.
He's every chance to pluck another 7 marks and kick 3 goals on Henderson and that's not including the output they will get from Reid, Franklin and Towers.

If we are still even hanging around in the 4th quarter, I'll be completely shell shocked.
This has a massacre written all over it.
Geelong is no longer a team. They are bunch of individuals playing for themselves. A group who know they are completely out of depth at the pointy end of the season.
