Probably worth a 2nd rounder. Seems to be injured a lot.
Kicked more than 2 goals only once and seems to be Melbourne’s messiah.

Comes with a couple boxes of tissues.

So you're going to wait 2 more years? Fine by me. Or you can try in 1 years time and offer us up 2 first rounders :)
We will let you guys rehab him in 2024 & look to convince him to move in a year... or 2.

how so? we'll get better RFA compo than what you'd give us anyway. You guys could be top 4-6 next year so won't have much to give us. Petty will get band 1 compo which would be similar to what you guys would give us so may as well see out his contract.
Petty won't get band one. This was the year when $800k gets band one - we won't see it again for a while.

Geez you’d be furious as a Melbourne supporter listening to him talk.

He seems like a massive sook and now will permanently have one foot out the door.

It isn't coincidental tomorrow trade period end so it's his last ditch effort to allow Melbourne to trade him. He will be earning nearly double what he is on right now......

Yes. Yes you can. It seems like he is going to be fine to hang on there at Melbourne for a while and 'hopefully' show his best footy watching that interview...or maybe not:D:D
What you said, makes no logical sense. He's contracted for 2 more years...

And if his form drops off then you wouldn't want him anyway soo..?

Of course he is...hopefully for Melbourne he is fully motivated now he has had his head turned by a financial offer vastly greater than what he currently earns..especially if the crows came to the party with an offer of say 14 + F2 in good faith for a good player - not quite an A grader as yet

He will have it in the back of his mind, that he will be earning half a million less this year had he been traded to the Crows.

Will be interesting to see how this impacts in his thinking going forward...

Look, I totally get he is contracted - that is fact. But what is his headspace like. We had McGovern under a new contract want out some years back because Carlton dangled a huge offer at him, Cameron did the same some years back with a huge offer from Brisbane.

He is Melbourne's player but if a good offer (a good 1st and a 2nd is in my opinion a good offer) came their way...they might need to look at Petty and work out is it better to let him go if his head has been turned.

Understand that the dees want to keep him but thats pretty low from the dees..

lad wants to go home to be closer to family and earn probably $400k a year more than the dees will be paying him for the next two years.

Crows traded a contracted Charlie Cameron, an important player to their forward line, a week after they played in a GF… because the lions offered him a heap more coin and Charlie wanted to be close to family.

the next season the crows then traded Mitch Mcgovern who still had three years left on his contract and was a best 22 player and important to their structure because the Blues offered him a massive deal.

this competition is so immature when it comes to player trades and player movement. Needs to take a leaf out of the NRL’s playbook.

imagine forcing a player to stay where he doesnt want to be, and its very clear in that interview that him staying isnt what he wanted, and seeing him $800k out of pocket..

if this was reversed and it was Petty wanting to leave the crows to come hime to Victoria to be near family and cash in.. the vic media would be screaming from the roof tops that he should be allowed to..

What would the Victorian media of said about the Crows if they had stopped a player from returning home to Melbourne & earning 2x or an extra $0.5M next season...

Ahh good point

I wonder if it really was on the cards, could a 3 way be in the offing

Adelaide
In - Petty
Out - 14 & 20

Geelong
In - 14 + 20
Out - 8

Melbourne
In - 8
Out - Petty
Melbourne would be risking bit trading him out now in any event. We’re really needing him up forward next year if we’re pushing for another flag.

Hahaha.. classic.. so he gets interviewed by channel 9 at the start of his round of golf.. and looks completely depressed and despondent about it all.. and sort of dumps on the dees by claiming “it was their decision“ (in other words not one he wanted)..

then he’s obviously thought whilst playing his round “Sh*t.. feel pretty worried about that interview.. could get me in the bad books with the club”.. then luckily channel 7 have turned up at the end of his round which gave him the opportunity to smooth things out a bit..

in the channel 9 interview he came across like someone who’d just spent 2 days listenning to Something for Kate albums on loop..

great Aussie band.. at the same time depressing as hell though!
