Ashley Hansen. My quip is why is he still in the job when we’ve had the worst forward line in 4+ years?Already said we should bring in matty Lloyd to help those guys and even Bont
Who the hell is the goal kicking coacc right now?
Terrible!
I think we have invested too much on these two to let them go. We should try to get them a mentor and some specialist training. A mentoring relationship is a very personal one so my advice to the club if they are lurking is to let the players find their own. We would get nothing for them now so best to put in the effort.
Why not use Chris Grant to do some mentoring?I want your opinions guys, I know some of you are gonna bag me and call me a muppet, I don’t care. But, I’m a very passionate supporter of our club, and I’m not afraid to say it as it is. The question that I want to ask, and it shits me that this doesn’t happen is this. We have no.1 and no.2 draft pick, key tall forwards at the club. One, Boyd has had physical and mental health issues holding him back, Schache also, but why don’t we employ specialist coaches or mentors say a Wayne Carey, Mathew Lloyd or Brereton to show these guys how it’s done? I know I’ve said this before, but Jesus Christ. The first time in my time, nearly 40 years of following the Dogs, we’ve got two big key forwards who were highly rated, we don’t get them any extra help. Now, I don’t want to hear sarcasm or bullshit responses. Please be half decent with your opinions. Cheers
What would you do then?
What would you do then?
I’ve asked myself this question many times mateWhy not use Chris Grant to do some mentoring?
They are still only young in Terms of KPF with some assistance I feel that they could be a long term forward pairing. Get them some help at least then we would know for sure if they can make it!Yeah, but it can’t hurt to try things out and get them some extra mentoring. If you have a Ferrari and a Lamborghini, and they’re not working well, do you just let them rot in the garage? Or do you take them to a specialist to get them fixed?
Great call mate, Riewoldt would be perfect!I would love for Reiwoldt do some work with Schache, I think he could offer him a lot.
I think we’re all looking forward to Naughton and Boyd in the forward line!
Boyd will do more for Naughtons game than Schache ever will. Boyd the more natural deeper option and also Boyd has this ability to draw multiple defenders. It’s not due to his quality but rather his size that is like a magnet for opposition players. Should allow Naughton a more regular free jump at the footy.
Obviously Boyd the superior ruck option than Schache as well.
It's hard to judge Boyd as a forward, because he hasn't played their consistently since early 2016. I still think with a decent run at it he will be fine for 30 goals. People may not think that's a lot, but it'd make him one of the best second ruck/kpf's in the league
Agree. It’s why I started the thread about the spine. We have a seriously good spine in the making, but I’m starting to get worried we (Bevo) will completely balls up the opportunity...Naughton - #1 tall forward
Boyd - #2 tall forward/20% in the ruck
Schache - Not a traditional tall, more a well skilled 3rd tall
English - #1 ruck
I think that is the nucleus for what we go for. It may not be good yet, but all of those players have high ceilings, and need games to realise their potential. In 3 years it has the potential to be the best spine in the league.
Building around that though, we obviously need to be mindful of pace and defensive pressure in general. At the moment we play Dickson, Lloyd, and Gowers as mid sized forwards. With this set up you'd only have 1, and they would need to either be pacey and apply good pressure, or take their turn in the midfield rotation. I'm not sure Gowers can do either, but the other two will be gone by then. A pacey small forward is a definite need too.
CHF: Mid-rotation, Naughton, Schache
FF: Mid-forward, Boyd, Pacey small forward
I would love for Reiwoldt do some work with Schache, I think he could offer him a lot.
I've noticed form the last quarter against Collingwood and the whole game against Carlton, the opposition focus is blocking Naughton's run and jump. He needs to find a way around it, another trick, or his teammates need to help him out here.
Easy to concentrate on Naughton without Shack up there and V.V?
Pretty sharp learning curve for a guy who is in his 2nd season and new to the forward line.
