Don't know where to ask this - loved the pre finals Royal derby event.

A lions Instagram popped up saying the RD are having a watching party there tomorrow night.

Is that a normal thing? If it's anything like the last event it would be a hoot.

Hope the roar deal guys get some watching parties happening up here. I'd definitely be up for that.

If it’s supposed to be comedy; it does a terrible job and if it’s supposed to be about footy, even worse. Nothing but a Collingwood circle jerk last night.

Went to listen to the Roar Deal and had the misfortune of having Maher on it 🙄and they actually called Maher beloved 🤮 by who exactly?
The fact that Maher still gets gigs is astounding to me. He offers nothing, but still gets commentary, radio and TV gigs. He's somehow worse than BT, which is an achievement.

Ignoring Maher, the Front Bar was funny before 2019 - but something happened to the show after the 2018 grand final show. Maybe they changed writers or something. Sam wasn't as funny anymore (he seems to be given a lot more freedom on Have You Been Paying Attention than the Front Bar) and Mick stopped flying off the handle as much. Show got worse as a result.

Brisbane RD Watch Party Thursday 11 April @ 6pm for Rd 5 v Melbourne at MCG.

Venue and ticketing details are available on the Patreon App.

Whilst I personally think it’s being overblown, the fact it has taken off the way it has, I can only assume the club will probably issue a statement on this at some stage.

A lot of the insinuations are that there has been a falling out amongst the group who went to Vegas.

I’m not sure that’s right.

But I have nfi, so I’m not going to comment further.

Will just read what comes out in the media.

It's at the stage where lots of scenarios are being floated . Not just the partners of those who went. Could be a storm in teacup.

It'll blow over if we start winning games.

Isn’t it quite well known that Hugh is and has been an eligible bachelor for years so not sure how he would be involved as in upsetting a partner with whatever went on. Cam has obviously been with that girl of Italian heritage for years but maybe that’s done with what has been on these recent pages.

I’ve got nfi what’s going on inside the club with anything.

As for Hugh, according to some of the nurses at work, he’s quite content playing the field, and isn’t adverse in “borrowing” ideas and places for date night, from one to the next.

Except nobody went to Vegas?

Compromising photos at centre of Brisbane Lions’ US trip scandal

More details have emerged about the contents of WhatsApp messages which were inadvertently shared with the partner of a Brisbane player. It can also be revealed a Lions great recently left the club.

A series of compromising photographs are at the centre of the Brisbane Lions’ holiday scandal.
This masthead can reveal the pictures of players on the United States tour were accessed by a partner of one of the players who had synced his WhatsApp group chat to his iCloud account.

The images have caused at least one big-name player to split from his partner.

This masthead has confirmed that some Lions players flew home from the United States early and with their relationships in damage control.

One player is understood to have touched down in Los Angeles in a relationship only to land back in Australia single.

This masthead revealed on Friday that one member of the Lions’ travelling party had accidentally synced their WhatsApp to their iCloud.

The US group chat was accessed by that person’s partner back in Australia and the contents shocked the partner and caused emotional turmoil for multiple couples.

On Saturday, a fresh round of uncomfortable conversations took place when members of the travelling party faced questions about what really went down from their friends, teammates and family members.

One source who quizzed those on the trip told this masthead the answers provided on Saturday were vague.

Lions including co-captain Lachie Neale, Eric Hipwood, Cameron Rayner, Jaxon Prior, Hugh McCluggage, Zac Bailey and Lincoln McCarthy were all in the US together last off-season.

They were joined by former Lions Rhys Mathieson and Tom Fullarton, who is now at Melbourne, as well as some Hawthorn players — including Mitchell Lewis, Jack Scrimshaw, Dylan Moore and Changkuoth Jiath — and retired champion Isaac Smith.

Their itineraries overlapped and the groups shared some nights out on the town together.

Lions director and three-time premiership coach Leigh Matthews said he was unaware of tensions tracing back to the trip in Tennessee and other US cities.

Fellow board member Cathie Reid’s husband, Stuart Giles, was with players on the trip.

Lions football boss Danny Daly phoned co-captains Harris Andrews and Neale on Friday to ask whether the locker room was divided.

Andrews and Neale told Daly there were no lingering issues.

Separately, it can also be revealed that club legend Daniel Rich is no longer employed by the club.

Rich, 33, was appointed to a dual role working in the football and administration departments at the end of last season.

Rich was working within the development and wellbeing teams in the football department and in sponsorship for the commercial team.

“We are delighted to have Daniel remain at our club in his new role across both departments which we believe he will offer great value to,” Daly said in November.

“Daniel has had a fantastic career as a player, and we look forward to him bringing his experience and knowledge to our playing group for season 2024 and beyond.”

Rich’s playing career was celebrated with a lap of honour at the Gabba before the Easter Thursday blockbuster.

But Rich recently parted ways with the Lions. He was not on the trip to the US.

The Lions’ overseas antics from October-November have brought into light the culture of male sporting teams travelling overseas together.

This masthead was told that one national Australian outfit uses codewords in WhatsApp groups when on tour.

The message: “Anybody know where to get a good milkshake?” is understood to often be sent, referencing an unsavoury sexual act.

Brisbane is bristling at any suggestion linking the US trip to its worst start to an AFL season in six years.

Neale, Andrews and club bosses are adamant the locker room is not divided and that they are simply out of form.

There are a magnitude of legitimate excuses for the winless start to 2024.

Coach Chris Fagan would be much more alarmed by the fact his players cannot defend defensive stoppages or connect going inside 50m than what supposedly went down in the States.

Fagan has lost Kiddy Coleman and recruit Tom Doedee to ACL injuries, Conor McKenna to a hamstring and footy’s next superstar – Will Ashcroft – is still months away after rupturing his ACL last season.

Hipwood had just three kicks against the Pies and Charlie Cameron has managed 3.8 in three games.

That is wrong in regard to Daniel Rich not being on the trip to the USA. There is a photo of him there on Lachie Neale's Instagram

This is an all time line - “The Lions’ overseas antics from October-November have brought into light the culture of male sporting teams travelling overseas together.

Like this was a pressing issue waiting to be addressed. Trying desperately to mask the fact this is a story about the personal relationships of players.

It's a generation wedded to their phones.

If you're doing something half compromising whatever you send anywhere can be used, misconstrued, paint you in a very poor light , is there forever. Maybe someone who you thought was a mate or what you said as a joke....

This applies in particular to anyone with a public profile.

What a load of garbage. Do these people actually consider themselves to be serious journalists? How anyone can be paid to write this sort of crap is beyond me. I know News Corp aim their articles at someone with the intellect and knowledge of a 12 year old but it is getting worse by the year.

Do you think the reason Daniel Rich and the Brisbane Lions have parted ways, because of the trip?

The media's in the mood to go us.

We're no longer the cinderella story, they smell a bit of blood and are going to dig into everything whilst it's able to capture the clicks.

We need to close ranks , settle everything internally if anything needs to be settled , not intimating it has to be , and start winning games.

I mean ffs whatever's happened here is infinitesimal compared to what's gone on at Melbourne.
