A dog doesn't worry about future day it only worry's about the bone in front of its nose.

If it gets to that stage and its a choice of going into the draft for one year...why would he do that ..he may as well stay at GWS for a year. ..and then become a UFA in 2022
They won't have 950k in cap next year. He would be taking a direct hit to the bottom line of his total career earnings. He won't sign a 1 year

Maybe the whole draft system is illegal?

How much would the footy world melt down if a player wanting to get to Geelong brought down the entire Draft house of cards.

Been a ticking time bomb for years. Everyone is too afraid to openly discuss the restraint of trade aspect because they make too much out of it.

Geelong as a destination club would benefit.

Let the melts begin!

can anybody post the HS article about the Giants thinking we’ll cave

Greater Western Sydney has attempted to stare down Geelong in the firm belief the Cats will buckle on the Jeremy Cameron trade deal.
Talks are delicately balanced on Monday night after the Giants rejected picks 15 and 20 from the Cats for Cameron.
GWS shut down the proposal because the Cats wanted a second-round pick back as part of the deal which they could on-trade to North Melbourne for Shaun Higgins.

But the Giants could yet reconsider their stance if the Cats give even more ground before Thursday’s 7.30pm deadline and drop their demands for the extra second-round pick.
Monday’s knock-back was a high-stakes move from the Giants, who want a senior player or two first-round picks as a minimum for the superstar goalkicker.
While GWS has been so far been rewarded for its hard line stance, it could yet backfire as the Cats now seriously consider walking Cameron, 27, through to the pre-season draft.
It means the Giants run the risk of losing the club’s greatest player for nothing.

GWS and Geelong are playing a high-stakes game over Jeremy Cameron.
Geelong has become increasingly confident Essendon — which is seen as the biggest threat — would not take Cameron if he was available to them in the pre-season draft after recent talks with the Bombers.
As the Herald Sun revealed on Monday, the Bombers and Cats have held discussions about a separate pick swap which could send No.13 and No.20 to Essendon for pick 7.
The Cats have made clear they want the Giants to be reasonably compensated for Cameron’s departure and believed picks 15 and 20 in exchange for Cameron and a second-round pick was fair.
However, the Giants are adamant the Cats will have to stump up more for an ace full-forward who they have been chasing for two years.

Cameron trade talks progressing
AFL: GWS GM of football Jason McCartney has confirmed that talks between the Cats and Giants are still ongoing as the two clubs discuss a trade for Jeremy Cameron.

Cameron’s manager Alex McDonald said he believed the Cats’ offer was reasonable.
Asked whether Cameron would return to GWS under any circumstances next year, McDonald said: “No”.
“We are hoping they (GWS) do (accept the deal),” McDonald said on SEN.
“I know it is a respectful offer they (Geelong) have put forward.
“It is good that both clubs are talking and communicating and both are good operators, so fingers crossed everything gets done sooner rather than later.”
McDonald said Geelong’s pick 15 and 20 was better than what the Giants would have received as free agency compensation (pick 11).
“It had to be better than that, so in this case I think that is and I think after 10 years of service — Jeremy went there as a 17-year-old and he has been through a lot — watching a club build from the ground up,” he said.
“I’m hoping the process respects his request to head back to Melbourne and that we can get the trade done.”

The pick swap that will unlock trade period
Former Collingwood and Adelaide recruiter Matthew Rendell said GWS should take the two first-round picks from the Cats and move on.
“They’re going to have to do that (otherwise) they are kidding themselves if they don’t do that,” Rendell said.
“They’d want to get this deal over the line because it is good for Geelong and it will be good for GWS because it is another first-round pick they can do some damage with that in the draft or they can use it to trade for other players.
“It makes a lot of sense. Sign the paperwork, get it done and let’s get moving.

Wow that article makes out like the Giants will accept 15 and 20 if we get there which will blow out to at least 20 and 26 at best. That’s conservative estimates given the volume of academy picks.

The cats can’t walk away from that deal. Try and get that third if not “let’s cave”

Does anyone have the free agency rules wording, as Cameron was selected as a 17 year old, and technically has been a GWS player for 10 years

the cats dont want to be the only club that gets matched and pays overs
wells cant give away opportunities, as he has helped players get to their preferred destination

If I got the wrong week, so be it, but Cook doesn’t say much generally on recruitment so his statement was a reaction to something GWS was saying to our club.

Fair enough, I’m just pointing out that when Cook made that comment GWS still thought Cameron was staying so they weren’t talking about their trade demands for him. Agree that the comments from Cook were very out of character.

Going to go against the grain and say forget the 2nd rounder back, Cameron for 15 and 20 is a great deal, take it and run I say if GWS are happy with it.

I think we'd all agree, but keep in mind that it was our opening offer, so it's probably a way for us to be like 'alright fine, we'll give you 15 and 20...you win' and then after they leave they realize those picks will blow out to Pick 20 and Pick 25+, they really didn't win and probably should have just accepted Pick 10 instead of being knobs in the first place.

I've been saying it would be 13 & 15. If we get away with 15 & 20, it'll be the steal of the decade lol
