Yes and no :)

Our midfield was and has been attrocious. Totally, so agreed there.

We probably would have seen more Blakely in the midfield throughout the year, but he was underdone from a long injury. Fyfe was out of the team for this game, kinda stings, so those are factors. With development, long term, Brayshaw and Cerra are midfielders, a long way from their peak but showing glimpses of what they will be. Bewley, needs time to adjust to AFL level, but at VFL "Was named in the VFL team of the year after leading the league in effective long kicks while rating elite for inside-50s".

Then there is wait and see as they are still babes in swaddling. Carter is a defender and a wingman, if he plays wing for us his disposal is an upgrade on Langdons. And then there is Luke Valente. "The South Australian under-18 captain comes with a reputation as a leader and very solid midfielder. The Dockers traded up to grab Valente at this pick, with early predictions putting him late in the first round. Specialises in winning contested ball and kicks well on both feet. Won SA’s MVP and was an All-Australian at the national championships."

So maybe, there is light at the end of the tunnel, but it's all about development of kids and a wait and see game.

I never agreed with the move of Blakely to hbf but nothing he’s showing atm indicates he’s a quality afl midfielder, in fact he doesn’t even play as a midfielder. Sure Fyfe is our quality midfielder, Mundy is good but 34(?) and BHill goes missing but has his days.

Brayshaw and Cerra are all hope at this stage. Definitely not writing them off but they have also done very little to be talked up.

Carter is predominantly a hbf who is showing a bit. Valente and Sturt are struggling in the wafl.

I do believe our midfield is bottom 4 on quality and Fyfe holds that up a fair bit.

Anyhow I’m crossing my fingers that someone starts to show something.

I'll fight you over Baeshaw not showing anything. Anytime he actually spends time in the midfield his talent is there to see.

Agree with the rest though. Midfield is a major concern going forward. Blakely's best football has always been at HB, need to see some improvement.

Cerra, Valente, Sturt and co need to step up in the next couple of years for our midfield to go anywhere

Patty, if you can't see what Brayshaw has DONE, you definitely need to see OPSM. He has gone past the potential tag, to actually producing.

I like the enthusiasm and Brayshaw has definitely had a couple of moments of wow!! But he still goes at 16ppg and has some disposal “inconsistencies”.
He’s building fine and I think Cerra is as well but we’re going to need a lot more than what they’re currently producing if we’re going to become a premiership side.

I get where your coming from, probably getting a little bit ahead of ourselves with AB but he has the attributes you need to succeed. I think its now a question of good he becomes. He's been dumped to a HF pressure role this year (with some on ball time) and is getting markedly less on ball time than others about his age (Taranto, Worpel, McCluggage). While I dont think he'll be as good as Taranto or McCluggage, I'd say the only thing stopping him playing at least 200 games is injury. I still like to think his floor is a Stanton, ceiling a Selwood/Cotchin

I actually like the fact he rotates fwd that’s definitely something we lack from our midfielders and if he can work out how to convert his chances on goal he’ll be more valuable as a midfielder.

I agree with your player comparisons but he has a way to go yet.

Taranto and McCluggage are 2 years older aren't they? That is a huge difference at this stage of career.

1 year I believe.

If AB is doing what Taranto is doing next year (different player to McCluggage) I would be pretty damn excited, dont think he will be that far advanced by then
