Review Qualifying Final vs Geelong

I knew Motlop was a big game player and he produced one for the ages. He really saved our bacon. His quality and position in the side can never be questioned.

I found out recently that 6 members of my paternal side of the family, with the first being the 2x ggf, are buried in the Geelong East cemetery and the most recent burial being in the 1920's, but if we had lost to those geebung campaigners again last night there may have been a 7th, me!

Anyway on to the good stuff, what a sensational team effort that was, with special mention to the captain Tom Jonas, who I have chucked plenty of stones at in the last 3 or 4 seasons.
The improvement in the bloke's skill level is virtually beyond belief, gone are the loopy widow maker floaters down the line to no-one in particular, replaced by direct long and/or short kicks lace out to a team mate, the change is so dramatic it's like watching a different player, and that pack mark in the 3rd term was sensational.

The sole captaincy fits him like a glove, he now looks and sounds like a genuine Port Adelaide captain, hopefully it can only be onwards and upwards for the team from here!

Watching the replay, Hawkins' 0.5 from 6 shots looks worse on paper than it was. He took no marks inside 50 at less than a 45 degree angle. The only one you could call a regulation shot was the mark in the 2nd quarter, and even that was at 45 degrees. He had 3 of those shots starting over the boundary line, one outside 50.

Our defence just gave them nothing. Look at their goals apart from the Stanley mark in the first quarter they were all chaos ball speculative snaps under pressure. They didn't have a single well worked goal all night. We ******* smashed them defensively. Absolutely annihilated them.

Was that the loudest NTUA we’ve ever done?

Also I swear at one point during the game my eardrums were about to burst from the amount of noise.

Craziest part is it was only 25k. I seriously worry that double the amount of people (50k) making that type of noise would damage my longterm hearing.
Agree. I've not been a huge fan of the NTUA... just felt it was a bit contrived and gimmicky but last night... boy, it actually made me emotional when they turned the soundtrack down and it was just the crowd singing - brilliant. On par with 2014 EF.

I actually can't wait to go to work on Tuesday. My boss has been insisting all year that Port will exit the finals in straight sets, and I'll be more than happy to remind him of that fact next week.

Also can the club please petition the AFL to officially award Duursma the mark when he was knocked out? Man in front, came down with it. 35m out straight in front as well. Absolutely criminal that it was paid to Blicavs so quickly when he didn't get close to holding it, and Xavier held it despite being unconscious.

And then give it mark of the year.

Anyone have vision of the "push in the back" by Charlie that should've been holding the ball? My eyes aren't the best but fu** me that looked like it should've been our free kick.

I know it's in the match highlights on the AFL site, 2nd quarter I think.

Geelong really is becoming the qualifying final specialist: losing them, that is. That's now 5 out of 6 since their 2011 flag.
And the one QF they did win in that time was against Hawthorn in 2016, who should have won it with a goal after the final siren.

List of teams with fewer finals wins than Geelong since 2011:
Gold Coast
Essendon
St Kilda
Brisbane
Carlton
Melbourne

Highlight was Mots bringing out the finger twirl. Beautiful.

Also Dangerfield having to walk the width of the field on his own being booed by 25000 people at half time

Paddy would’ve been saying to himself “see, it is all about me”.

Bloody tosser

Post on the Geelong board, "Port are not that good - Richmond will walk it in again this year."

And another one criticising the Port crowd for booing all night - I guess the muppet who wrote that hasn't listened to a Geelong crowd doing exactly the same thing.

That was an incredibly gutsy effort by our bow and arrow man, and although he didn't initiate the contact or deliberately cause injury to him I believe Blicavs could at least have shown some concern for the young bloke's welfare after that collision.

Looking at it again and each player had the ball for a short time but neither had it long enough. It should have been a ball up.

One said our crowd is toxic, Eddie & Darce running polls on Melbs radio against NTUA.. glorious day, these are reactions you want it means you are getting right up their skirts.

Just on thatgoal, it shouldn't have happened. The mark at half forward was line-ball OOF, but the boundary ump cleared it  but then the bloke ran along the outside of the boundary, instead of in a straight line from where he started to the man on the mark ie. he deviated off the line and therefore it should have been called play on and hence a throw-in. Even kicked it outside the boundary after going off the line, so a double reason for a throw-in

And if we win 2 more games, it'll be the most undeserved premiership in history, or there'll forever be an asterisk against the 2020 flag because of COVID etc.
