Autopsy Round 21, 2025: Hawks can’t get it done against the Crows

It was always going to be difficult beating Adelaide on their home deck. I think we proved we're a good side because that game came down to singular moments. Unfortunately, I don't think we're a great side yet especially interstate.

Starting with the bad. That second quarter capitulation was terrible. The four talls didn't work at all and seemed to actively impede each other. A handful of players in the last quarter had moments they would like back that probably defined the game.

But there was a lot of good. Our pressure was very high for most of the game. TB-Battle-Sicily were immense (only one of Thilthorpe's goals was direct). Our midfield looked dominant in patches despite Newcombe not firing. I thought our small forwards had a lot of defensive intent and were too unselfish at times.

One straight Massimo kick and who knows where the result ends up.

We failed the first test but I think we showed enough that we are a chance against Collingwood and Brisbane. Destiny still in our hands.

If we play that way against Collingwood and Brisbane, we win at least one of those. Worpel should be sub, struggled to adjust to the pace. If we don't play 4 talls again, I think Lewis needs to make way.

Umpiring calls were tough but even then, composure wasn’t there. Plenty of opportunities.

Not far off, lots to work on but a close game and 50-50 contest with a top 4 team.

It was a mistake to sub Dear out. He was not having a great game but applied a lot more pressure than Lewis.

Let’s be honest here, we went to Adelaide not being in exceptional form, despite winning 6 of our last 7. We take on the Crows who are a three goal better side at home with their supporter base behind them and they have been in some red hot form. We jump out to a lead, then are ambushed in the second.We go into half time shellshocked and could have just rolled over. We come out in the third and show enough fortitude to claw back the lead. In the last term, we missed 4 set shots that could have seen us win the game, all the while not getting things going our way and having players fade in and out. We didn’t get the 4 points, but I reckon it will actually build the belief that we are good enough on our day because we gave them a real shake and didn’t go down meekly. The effort was there, unfortunately we didn’t have the polish when we needed it most.

I love Sammy but subbing off Dear was such a bad call. Lewis cannot take a contested mark for shit. I have watched every game at Box Hill this game. And the audacity of idiots on this forum to call me out for saying Lewis is not good enough is ****ing laughable.

Secondly Worpel again said it for about 20 weeks now he is absolutely putrid with the call.

At the end of the day our midfield is not good enough. Day and Newcombe are very very good but we need one more elite player. I said this about 15 weeks ago and again got called out:

Mackenzie losing confidence post injury has cost us this season.

Above points - I think we played well. Proud of the team / never thought we could have won it this year but want a preliminary final appearance so bad. Still possible if we win 2 games.

Just never want to see Worpel play for hawthorn again and Lewis should not play again in 2025

Mass had a good game but fluffed the moment unfortunately. He naturally kicks it right to left and that's where he should of aimed it. Too many downhill skiers in our side. Great against mediocre/average opposition, become the invisible men when we need them. Wiz needs to come down a peg or two until he can nail the tough situation set shots. He's had moments this year and he hasn't delivered. He's young so you let it slide. Players like Worpel continuously choose the wrong option with ball in hand and end up getting caught. If he's still doing that now than it is a problem and perhaps a good reason we won't fight for him that hard to stay. Not having Day most of the year has bitten us on the backside too because he's gassed by the last quarter when we need him the most right now and by the time he gets going across 4 quarters it may be too late to make the most of it.

Going into he game it was more likely than not just 2 wins from our last 4 gets us into finals, beat either Collingwood or Brisbane and we make the eight, our game tonight would beat most teams. Lick our wounds and show up next week to beat Collingwood.

Gunston is amazing - Chol had to play out of position all night and still influenced. And we completely gave dear nothing to work with.

LEWIS is not in our best 23 this year deal with it mate.

Ramsdan outplayed him at box hill.
