Yeah he only kicks it 4 times a game he average less Disposals per game then Banfield and Coyler.

Going back to crowden is a useless move.

Play some fresh blood this team needs it bad.
As a small forward. He is a midfielder who hasn’t been playing as a midfielder.
Mitch went back to Peel on the weekend and was best on…we should reward that and use his obvious skill

Here’s another very annoying thing from the weekend:
Why did Liam Henry not play ANY footy this weekend??
What kind of planning is that? They would have known there was likely to be a player that fell between the AFL team
And Peel and didn’t get a game. Logic would say- ok, let’s select an experienced fringe player that has limited scope for further development to fill that role. Blakely, Hughes, Crowden, Wilson even (he was a test earlier in the week).
Instead we have the guy with the greatest need for gametime and development to be the only available player on the list not to play.

Our best 2 defenders at locking down a small forward (ie actually defending ) are Walker and Hughes.
Both are stuck playing wafl while we get smoked by small forwards 2 weeks in a row, because JLo needs to squeeze in the excess of attacking half backs and key defenders into the 22.

Hughes should come into the side.

Our wings are a real problem for us. Acres is the only one close because of his persistent running ability however he's too hot and cold. I still believe Freddy would make a good winger, perhaps his tank isn't up to it though.

Cox and Mundy back next week will help, unfortunate to have them miss as they would have got us over the line even playing badly.

Our mix in the backline is all wrong.

Should be:

3 of Pearce, Logue, Cox, Ryan, Hamling

3 of Clark, Walker, Wilson, Young, Chapman..

I’d even say Ryan, Young and Chapman can’t co-exist.

Ryan plays way taller than his height, he and Young are essentially very similar players, as is Chapman, though Ryan is unique as he plays very tall. The dash out of our backline is horrendous. We really need more than just one player - Clark providing run. They should all be capable of providing some run. 2-3 players provide rebound is far harder to contain.

The problem we have, is we’ve invested heavily at the draft in defenders. Most of those listed above are genuine AFL players.

One could be selected as the 7th defender, others need to displace less talented / mature declining players - Tucker, Banfield, Colyer, Walters, Acres, Aish….

Also the mix in the midfield is dross. Not dissimilar to the backline. The mix is all wrong. Too many extractors, need only 1-2 of; Serong, Brodie, Mundy, Blakeley… which 2 is obvious. Serong trying the sidestep coming out of the backline and getting slammed and get caught holding the ball reminded me someone else should be streaming out of the backline, and it’s not your inside extractors.

You complement your 1-2 extractors with players who are dynamic, only Brayshaw is really exciting to watch side step and shimmy his way in the midfield, and also Switta who needs a bit more size. Brayshaw is genuine A grade “build a midfield around” talent. But you need more than just one.

This leaves our midfield very shallow. Losing Weller, B.Hill, Langdon, Cerra hasn’t helped. We need to find A-graders from Johnson, Erasmus, NOD, Henry…

We’ve already established that Tucker, Acres, Aish, Banfield, Colyer, Crowden aren’t A graders.

I’m not convinced we Have enough A grade midfield talent. Chapman, Young are elite talent, they might need to be redeployed.

I just can't process how flattening that was to watch. It didn't just mean we lost a game, it means we aren't ready for finals, our player list is questionable and our coach may not be the answer.

At a minimum:
Ras > Banners
Noddy > Walters

If we have a smart coach: Walker in and Cox to the forwardline. Instead I'm sure the changes made will be more conservative than Trumps arseh*le.

We can shuffle the deck chairs and I'm sure we will but if a team spends most of their time fumbling the ball, making poor choices, over thinking things with ball in hand and falling over in the contest then it will make little difference.

If what we saw is the game plan then it's going to be a very long season. I hope it was a case of them creating too much pressure for themselves by failing to do the footy basics with the first wet ground this year and the game plan going out the window.

For all the talk over the past few seasons by JL about "getting speed behind the ball" that was pretty much a perfect example of the exact opposite. Of course getting absolutely pantsed in centre clearances doesn't help the cause. Did not give out defenders a chance at all. Midfield coach is going to be plenty busy this week reviewing the tape.

I want Chapman to a wing, Acres out, Walker on half back. Logue as a lock down on small forwards. Cox in to the forward line, Darcy will be out I guess. Erasmus in for Banfield. Sonny is ‘sore’ and needs a ’rest’. Mundy in. Mundy, Erasmus, Brodie and Serong can share some rests across half forward. Freddie lucky to hold his place.

Ryan, Rioli, Darling and JK 14/16 goals there

We'll kick 6
Bomb it long like we did yesterday and Barrass, McLovin, Hurn etc will have a field day.

Ugly, and depressing.

Kevin Sheehan used to say the number one thing that was important in drafting an AFL footballer was clean hands.
We had so many fumblers yesterday it was alarming. You can see now why Frederick for example fell to the 4th round, but if he can improve his handling he has real potential. I just hope that some of the more recent draftees we haven’t seen much of yet can improve this aspect of the game. Noddys left boot was a nice point of difference in the last quarter I thought and he’s a big body too.

Longmuir said we need to work on the skills.
WTF were they doing over the pre season?

Even slightest of the slightest wetness on ground, we will lose even to a bottom 4 team. Need to send a petition signed by freo and west coast supporters to Mark McGovern to add a roof to the optus stadium(eagles also play worse in wet).

They were. They had the balls out right from the start. We just can't replicate the pressure when we are playing against ourselves or a few guys from Peel.

What Freo have been doing skill wise has not been working since day dot of the club.
How do the other clubs replicate pressure ? Why are Freo always trailing the best clubs in skills and injury prevention. Surely in 20 or so years the club would have solved the problem.

You clearly have a personal grudge against Logue for some reason based on your posts on here over a long period of time?
It would be easier to take this criticism seriously if you applied the same standards to other players. Banfield with 5 measly disposals while Treacy, Sturt and Erasmus rot away at peel? Does that not make you angry too?
Acres with his constant scared half-efforts - look back on the last min of the third quarter for exhibit A, ball comes in high to our D50, acres perfectly positioned to take a routine mark, drops it out of sheer fright for the footsteps behind him despite no contact whatsoever, then turns round and does a dumb fake hard man tackle on King to hand them a free kick at goal. Shit like this happens every single game with this guy.
Walters falling on his knees every time the ball comes near him - 8 disposals for the entire game!
Colyer running around like a headless chicken burning the footy with some woeful disposal.
Tucker absolutely anonymous despite playing in midfield all game.

Yeah Logue wasn’t great but at least he’s not afraid. And he kept us in the game in Adelaide last week with a great third quarter. If only he was our biggest problem, it wouldn’t be that bad then.
Don’t get me wrong. We were deplorable across the ground. Hell I could even get critical with Brayshaw because despite his defensive side and clear standout performance was appalling with inside 50m delivery.

With all the defenders back, Logue somehow stayed in the side.

I’m all for dropping Banfield or Acres or Colyer or whoever else is in that best 18-30 bracket BUT Logue seems to be treated as best 10 and undroppable.

At least Walters once gave us great service. Logue has does stuff all in his entire career. A few repeat effort highlights can’t persuade me that not only did we mess up pick 8, but we’re persisting with eating the shit sandwich we bought.

Lot of doom and gloom in here, guys. You'll be playing a glorified WAFL side with likely top-ups this week. The 7-8 goals you kick a game should be enough to get over the top.

As a coach I do not understand how full time professional footballers can fumble so often? And similarly fall over - it wasn't just Walters, half our team were doing it and St Kilda stayed on their feet and punished us. They should be outliers in a game of football, not more likely than unlikely.
