He was though. His NAB cup was excellent as were his AFL games this season prior to getting injured. He's a whipping boy so people just refused to acknowledge that when it was happening.

I'll admit, my "Matt Jones is a terrible footballer who should never play AFL again" counter broke mid-late last year ... but he hardly put a foot wrong in his games early this season.

Two prolific performances should just about be enough to earn his spot back, particularly with a few young guys probably needing a spell, but I'd be happy to give him another week given the amount of time he spent on the sidelines. On that point tho, it is important to consider that a 28 year old's with 5 AFL preseasons (+ a number of State League preseasons) get back up to speed a lot quicker than 20 year olds with 1 or 2 preseasons.

Yep, all the listed players have to have the week off, so state leagues give the affiliate clubs the week off as well so they don't need play with half a team

I totally agree with this... He was our best running/link up player early on which is the major weakness in our team in my opinion. His kicking has been much better this year and he can seriously cover the ground and constantly gives us an option coming out of the backline.. I'm happy to have him back after the bye

Yeah so was mine, don't get me wrong. I'm just trying to remain objective. The fact is, he was best 18 during the NAB Cup and the early rounds. He was certainly better than some of the guys running round over the last few rounds.

Matt Jones is hardly going to be a star but is capable of being a role player in our best 22. He also provides pace which is something we don't have a lot of.

The question that everyone should be asking is given that we are looking to offload at least 6 players this year and he is off contract, does he get a new one? We will look to trade one of garland or Dunn and probably grimes. Terlich is toast, jkh will struggle. One of Newton, michie and ANB probably go (ANB should be well safe).

They won't get rid of ANB, he's in his second year, destroying the VFL and should have been given more of a chance after breaking into the team.

JKH is borderline, whether they want to give up on him yet is the question?

Yup, I agree with ANB, and I like him a lot. Unfortunately I don't see any vfl so I'm probably wrong but I think there's only so many spots in the club for those type but he is safe. Newton is probably ahead of michie and he maybe holds his rookie spot but I think they move him on. Matt Jones probably slots in there too and is questionable.

It will be interesting to see what we try to draft. We will have a crack at Prestia, O'Meara, Hurley and Hibberd with a view of getting one maybe 2 and that will have a huge impact on our drafting.
Our KPF are probably sorted with a question mark on Dawes but even if he goes I don't think we replace him.
KPD are a bit of an issue but a Hurley sorts that if we're lucky. Not sure how white is coming along but hasn't set the world on fire.
Small fwd and mids have good depth, hopefully Kent re-signs soon bit we probably draft a young mid cos that's what you do.

I'm just spitballing of course and I'm probably nowhere near the mark. It's just that time of year and I'm struggling with not being resigned to the draft being the best part of our year.

How real is this Dunn personal problems thing? I've been hearing about it since last season & no one has enlightened me what is actually the problem if there is one. It's not affecting his ability to play as he still lines up for Casey when he isn't injured so I find it difficult to believe that these problems of his don't allow him to play senior football. He is a paid professional & he should take time off to sort out any issues if it is affecting his footy. Problems are a part of life. It's not like he's the only footballer going through issues.
