GC are losing Lynch. That might be a nice package deal for them. Take McV with them as player/coach in waiting and we take their first pick? Would be conditional on Reid turning up and putting a good shift in before the end of the year.

I reckon we need good kicks. Guys like Miles and Tyson, whilst they may be good, tough inside mids, will only contribute to our current problems stemming from poor disposal. Although it may be more difficult to attain an inside mid who is also a good kick, I think these last few seasons where our poor disposal efficiency has often hurt us means that we need to set our standards a little bit higher. Having better kicks will go a long way to helping us transition out of this game style and create a more high scoring, attacking game that actually enables guys like Buddy to get the ball delivered straight to them.

That may mean paying a bit more for someone like Brayshaw, or going to the draft and ensuring we get a kid with elite kicking, like we did with Florent.

If we are going to trade, I would be devastated if brought in someone under 80-90 games. Our future is already bright, what we need is proven experience. I like swansfan51 description with a few caveats:

Obviously the most pressing need is a strong and reliable inside midfielder. He'd be able to win centre clearances consistently even without the help of a dominant ruckman, since we don't have someone that dominates the hitouts to advantage like Gawn or Jacobs. He'd be equally good at stoppage clearances around the ground. Critical to our game-style is having players that work defensively as well. Ideally he'd be in the top tier in the league for tackles and defensive efforts.

The only caveat I would add is cannot be slow. Doesn't need to be super quick, but cannot be slow...

Also a strong mid-sized marking forward to support Franklin. Someone who'd be our 2nd top goalscorer, and rating as elite for contested marks for his size, and elite for marks inside 50. Since we rate low for inside 50s, he would need to be able to capitalise on limited opportunities. He'd ideally be very accurate for shots at goal.

Heeney might fit this bill for a year, but he is going into the middle and this would be a waste of his talent imo. We need both Parker and Heeney alternating in the middle and resting forward which gives us solid shots on goal and variety in the middle. Hayward might be this player next year I think. So I don't really see a pressing need.

Sinclair has tried extremely hard this year but unfortunately this is a bit of an area of weakness for us. I'd argue we miss a strong physical presence in the middle of the ground, like Mumford used to provide. A ruckman to target might be in the elite tier of ruckmen (top half a dozen) for all of these stats: contested possessions, one percenters, ground ball gets, tackles, pressure acts, spoils. Excelling in those areas would really fit into our culture - hard work, no frills, doing the unfancy stuff.

I agree. And while Naismith showed some really good tapwork at times, he didn't really show much else except for a few contested marks. However, we now have Cox, and considering the improvement he has wrought in Sinclair in less than a season, I'd be inclined to give him a go with Naismith.

Still, what’s the point of leaving your club to go home, only not to go home, and still be separated from family, friends, etc, even if they are a shorter flight away. If the kid misses home enough to depart the club that drafted him, then surely he’ll just want to get back home. Anyway, if he is happy to come to Sydney we’ll be happy to take him.

We wouldn’t have the assets to get him- meaning a top 5 pick or equivalent. That’s even if he’d come which he won’t.

They are all basically untried (not sure about Hunt) and I would really prefer a proven 100 gamer. Otherwise we risk exactly the same situation we are in now... some good players who are not quite good enough, and some others who will be great players in a few years time.

With the picks we have (unless you plan on trading Parker, Heeney, AA, Lloyd or Mills) aren't getting superstars. Need to look for value. I like the idea of Pruess.

Is Mitch Wallis not slow? I don't need him to be quick, just not slow... if so, he sounds like an ideal candidate.

I'm not asking for a superstar, just a solid player who can come in right now and play the position we need.

I looked at Pruess, and yes I agree he might fit our needs. But Naismith has been with Cox for a year now. Look at the improvement in Sinclair, and think how that might be applied to Naismith. I'm willing to give that another year, with Cameron continuing to bulk up and learn his role under Cox.
