To get a top 3 selection in this draft you are going to have to pay huge overs. Lloyd is worth a late first at best. I’d rather keep him.
I respect the role he plays for the team but his 40 metre pie floaters invite repeat oppo I50s. I'd like to keep him but not by paying overs. At best I reckon he is worth a mid 20s Draft pick. Hopefully there is more than one club interested in him as it strengthens our hand.

I mean let’s face it, the fact that one of our most talented kids in Heeney has become one of our biggest turnover merchants tells me that we are just destined to never have players with elite foot skills. Give Florent a year or two and he’ll start butchering it.
Seriously? Any evidence to back that up?

One of those picks will do will help any Blakely bid anyway via points at worst.
How would you describe him... reading one poster above..sounds almost like another Smith with no marking around the ground. More ruckman than follower?

and if you don't mind a couple of unrelated questions..

How is Ling going? Another good young Falcon.

Will you be looking at the Dogs FA's?

Look his marking around the ground isn’t the best but it isn’t awful- he improved this a bit in 2016. Very good tap ruck at worst.

Ling is going ok, extended his contract a few months ago. Very highly regarded. Should end up being a very good player. Would be handy now actually, injured at the moment.

Not sure on the Dogs FA, Wallis interests a bit but doubt we’d be rushing to get in line. Have Lloyd to sort out first and foremost

Re Heeney and his disposal, one of the things that most impressed me in his first year was his disposal, especially in front of goal. In that first season I can recall him doing a Ronke and kicking our first quarter 3 goals (v Melbourne from fading memory).

For whatever reason both his field and goal kicking seems to have gone off the boil. On Saturday for example he gave the pill off to someone who was not really in a better position. First year Heeney calmly would have slotted the goal; fourth year Heeney has no confidence and looks to give off.

Why is it so?

fwiw I can recall an underaged Mills slotting snags in the Ressies. He too nowadays seems to have little faith in his kicking skills. I worry for Tom McCartin. Yep he is not the most confident nor technically proficient kick for goal, but I fear his 'development' is undermining whatever confidence he had. Having a legend forward demand the ball whenever Tom wins it within range does not help.

For Heeneys it’s probably having to do so much running in the midfield which probably affects his finishing (especially given our current midfield predicament(. In his first year he played almost permanent forward.

Well, first year Heeney had almost no responsibility and played mainly forward, second year Heeney had some responsibility and played mostly forward with additional mid responsibilities, third year Heeney had glandular fever and fourth year Heeney has spent most of his time in the middle covering for Hanners and working his arse off! When he comes to have a shot at goal, he's pretty exhausted, especially in the earlier rounds while he acclimatised.

Using last weeks game as an example for any of the players is not reason enough to call Heeney one of our 'biggest turnover merchants' imo. There is absolutely no evidence to support that this is true, I've looked. Have you?

A few types I think we could use:

Obviously the most pressing need is a strong and reliable inside midfielder. He'd be able to win centre clearances consistently even without the help of a dominant ruckman, since we don't have someone that dominates the hitouts to advantage like Gawn or Jacobs. He'd be equally good at stoppage clearances around the ground. Critical to our game-style is having players that work defensively as well. Ideally he'd be in the top tier in the league for tackles and defensive efforts.

Also a strong mid-sized marking forward to support Franklin. Someone who'd be our 2nd top goalscorer, and rating as elite for contested marks for his size, and elite for marks inside 50. Since we rate low for inside 50s, he would need to be able to capitalise on limited opportunities. He'd ideally be very accurate for shots at goal.

Sinclair has tried extremely hard this year but unfortunately this is a bit of an area of weakness for us. I'd argue we miss a strong physical presence in the middle of the ground, like Mumford used to provide. A ruckman to target might be in the elite tier of ruckmen (top half a dozen) for all of these stats: contested possessions, one percenters, ground ball gets, tackles, pressure acts, spoils. Excelling in those areas would really fit into our culture - hard work, no frills, doing the unfancy stuff.
Sounds like a Preuss Brodie combo.

6-6-6 at the centre bounce is going to make clean clearances so much more important and more damaging than ever before.
We won't have to worry ourselves, we dont win them, we can just sprint backwards to absorb the inside 50 to rebound it back to the wing for a spoil out of bounds for a throw in, which we can lose and then absorb another inside 50m, where we can rebound it back out to the wing again. Thats where the magic really starts, they'll spoil it over the line, win the throw in and we get another chance to slingshot again.

Not sure what picks you have but a 3rd would be about right.

If he wanted to go to Geelong both clubs would get it done- both have a great trading relationship.
Thats ridiculous. If lloyd is late first round so is Naismith. You recruit completely untested ruck men (Nankervis, cameron) with 3rd round picks.

A ruckman coming off an ACL, there is no chance getting that much especially in an extremely strong draft. Lloyd is worth more he has shown to be AA standard (he’ll be close this year). I hope Geelong or another team will overpay for Naismith but I doubt it.

No
Just no

Rucks take longer to develop and barring injury he was 1st ruck this year. Pure tap ruck man, -1around the ground but potentially 1st use to the midfielders which is underrated these days IMO

3-way trade to bring in a Pruess/Lycett ruck upgrade sure but 3rd rounder?

Mate we’d be lucky to get a third rounder for those two.

That “average” player cut us to shreds last week. He’s a top talent and they paid about what’s right for a young, injury free player with a heap of potential.

McVeigh if he goes will be a token late pick and if you recon Reid after playing very few games is worth more than a 3rd (I’m being generous) you are kidding. Lloyd would need to be in the trade.
Agree on McV being a token piece. Hodge went for a late rd maybe?
Reid is def worth more than you quote. One finals series (if we win at least one) of him marking and goaling will see him worth a pick in the teens. It's a sure thing v an untested one. Present value far exceeds future for GC ATM, they will be MAD keen on senior contributing players. - Though it may be a BIT of a stretch to get a top 3 pick, I will admit. :p
