The most average player ever

I would nominate Chris Masten from WC.

I actually don't think he's as bad as some of our fans would have you suggest, but being an average player at AFL level is a decent achievement. Many, many footballers never get that far. Masten has a decent kick at times, can run all day but lacks hurt factor and doesn't have the want to attack a contest.

Brent Stanton was the first guy that came to my mind when I read this thread. Again, not a bad term, just think calling him below average would be a disservice to his footballing ability.
With his tatts, man bun and beard and also being a decent looking bloke i think masten's best work is done off the field. Probably tears the night scene to shreds. Seems pretty content with being an average player but still living the footballers life.

Corey Jones - 157 games for 216 goals.
Aaron Edwards - Good mark, but a largely average forward.
Daniel Harris - Actually a handy player for a long while.
Leigh Adams - Was also a decent player, let down by injuries and concussions.
Lachie Hansen - Never lived up to his draft position, but had a good couple years 2013-14.
Scott McMahon - 120 games, mostly as a defender averaging 14.5 disposals a match, handy player, but nothing special.
Shaun Atley friend

First name that came to mind was Nick Suban - surprised he hasn't been mentioned yet.
Because he wasn't average-he was s***. Surely has to win the award for worst 150+ game player (or at least be in serious contention.) All he was good for was 10 disposals and five holding the ball against a game.

Jed Lamb.

Neat skills, does a few good things a match, but not particularly productive.

Good enough to be picked up by 3 clubs, not good enough to cement his place as best 22 in any of them.

Averages 10 matches a season and kicks a bit under a goal a game as a vanilla, unobtrusive HFF.

Player of the finals series at multiple clubs, would probably be the best west coast player of all time
Dawson certainly had some of the funniest highlights from the finals.

Dawson wasn't measured on his possessions. He was rated to have had a good game, when no one saw him committing a horrendous turnover.

He's come up a few times in this thread already.
But I disagree, I think he was quite good, an above average player.

Farren Ray was a lot better than many remember...

not a world beater by any means, but had patches where he held his amongst the better players at his club

I agree, I rated him as well - did all the basics comfortably, hard as nails (despite the weird perception of him being soft), ran both ways, versatile, unassuming sort of player who did the business for over a decade.

Yet so rare to find others like us on here with anything positive to say about him.

Can't be arsed reading the whole thread. Has anyone mentioned Bronte Mumford? He played 200+ games for North Adelaide and never received a Magarey Medal vote.
