Butler's choice of teams sure does reflect his will to compete in playoffs and go for a chip.
Not about being the centre of attention and getting the most money possible at all.
Its pick your poison for his chosen destination. He's good enough to completely derail the draft position necessary to rebuild properly, but nowhere near good enough to be the number one guy on a contender.

It's worth it for the Clips given they have 2 max slots next off offseason if they think if it can attract Kyrie (where there's already been stuff flying around for a while he and Jimmy want to play together) or Kawhi who has been spoken about a ton as wanting to go back to LA or even set up something to bring both in somehow. Obviously there's no guarantees in any of that working out but there's an advantageous path for them to be had by acquiring him.
Except the whole point of this isn't Butler on his own, it's been well documented that Kyrie and Jimmy want to team up so it's highly likely that wherever Jimmy ends up Kyrie ends up.

Jimmy now has a reputation for being particularly abrasive to teammates and demonstrated very little ability to deal with being a number 2 dog to anyone. If the upside is a potential actual superstar joining Jimmy butler and the only known guarantee is just Jimmy butler by himself, it does warrant consideration to just avoid the Jimmy butler cluster* altogether.

He's only had issues with younger teammates.
IMO it's highly likely that wherever Jimmy does land it's where Irving will land as well, they've become quite the butt-buddies.
