Player Watch Tyler Brown (Delisted 2022)

Only 17 when drafted. Stats been okay this year.

Don’t mind the spell in the VFL so long as they play him at the stoppages.

Won’t get the same midfield minutes in the seniors at the moment and is no winger when you have several better options.

And beginning to think with T Brown and Sier that it’s a case of either/or... not both in the side at once

Happy for the club to give him til end of 2022 on the list before a long term call is made on him

If you decide to play others on the wing, where else can he play? I'm hoping we get more attacking from the wings and go with a combination of Crisp, Daicos and Noble.

Good question sr.

I hope we get Daicos back on the wing.

Tyler can play a role in a similar position as well as on the ball. I understand that he hasn't set the world on fire but helping players develop entails giving them the opportunity to do so. We already know Mayne's ceiling and as much as I hate to admit it, WHE is unlikely to reach previous heights.

I like Crisp in defence or in the centre and prefer Noble running the ball out of the backline.

I think Crisp has to be our 4th mid. Pendles, Sier and Adams then crisp the next to rotate through there. I don't think you want your defenders to chop and change too much, so I'd be starting him on the wing.

Tyler has a better physique, but Callum's a better prospect, as he actually plays with purpose until the ball is in his hands, which I think is confidence and he can overcome it.
At worst Callum can hide as a s**t truck small forward in a good side. Midfielder don’t get that luxury.

Don't recall saying they are great stats. But for a 12 gamer they would be bang on what you'd expect.
For someone who’s had 4 pre seasons you’d expect allot better and even a 12 gamer in their first season you’d expect they atleast show promise ball in hand.

Are you serious? "He plays with purpose until the ball is in his hands"? How damming is that? At present Callum just really very average in every measure, and his goal sense is aweful. He should not be in our team. Tyler has a lot more potential improvement but needs to put his big boy pants on soon or he'll be overtaken by the new recruits

"Callum is a great player until he has the ball"

Came back into the side yesterday and I thought he showed a bit. He was drafted the year after Josh Daicos, and had similar issues to Josh in terms of getting enough ball to have an impact. I’m feeling optimistic about where he will get to by the end of the year if we can persist with him.

First half, and first quarter in particular, were much better. Something to work with.

I just wish we’d given Rantall that same opportunity.

T Brown is in his fourth season and didnt debut until his third. Its not as if hes been given a lot of opportunities either over the years.

Rantall will get further chances.

Seems to be able to read the ball off Grundy's hands in stoppages pretty well and get first hands to it. Also competed really strongly in the air a few times. Definitely showing something. If we're not going to give Sier a go, happy for T Brown to get the opportunity to try become our tall contested midfield beast. It's currently between him, Sier and Reef

I think by years end, McInnes will be the incumbent tall inside mid. Just needs an uninterrupted run of several VFL games

with T Brown remaining because he’s under contract until 2023... and because with his height, agility and run he’s got the potential to play well in other positions eg down back

I think after 5 years of frustration and inconsistency that Sier’s run out of opportunities. They’ll move him on and free up the senior list spot

Encouraging signs from Tyler, moves well with ball in hand, good size and getting the strength now. Just needs to be played as an inside mid for a run of games and start to find more of it.

Sadly, Callum isn't going to get there for mine, whilst Sier has almost certainly been passed over.

Some metals slump to slag when they go to the furnace but others are annealed and transformed.

It will be interesting to watch the process.

Crom!

Tyler Brown worth persisting with
After spending a lot of the season so far in the VFL, Tyler Brown has earned his position in the senior side and his performance on Saturday evening should be enough to maintain his spot going forward.

Brown specialises in his ability around the contest, finding space in a ‘Pendlebury like’ manner. 18 disposals, 9 contested possessions and was impressive all evening.

Happy to give him a few more games but not sure about the Pendlebury comparison...

From early on, it was clear that Pendlebury could evade traffic. So far, Brown has attempted to evade traffic but no where near as successful at the same stage.
