What was the umpiring like?

Some of the worst/biased displays I've ever seen have been in state championship games.

Yeah it was very poor.

I had absolutely no leaning one way or another as to who I wanted to win, but it appeared to me as a neutral, that the Allies got very well looked after.

The game it self was a decent watch, made more so by the SA comeback in the second half.

Certainly some very good players in the Allies team, that coupled with the fact that The Allies were playing better team football, whereas SA looked more like individual efforts rather than cohesive team play.

Only one game, however as a generalisation, SA looked to be a less talented team that what they usually field.
The Allies looked pretty slick and seemed to have winners on most lines, with the ruck contests however, being won by SA

Sanders has quite a few similarities to Cam Mackenzie.

No one, single jump off the page attribute or physical gift.

Just a really solid all rounder with elite footy IQ.

People see JHF, but that's just the blonde mop, pulled up socks and big backside I think. He's nowhere near the power athlete JHF is/was.

I reckon SA should win, the Allies do have some individually talented players though.

The SA backline of Patton, Evans, McCabe and Holt is as strong a positional group as any, so I would back them in to make things difficult for Jed Walter. If Talbot gets the job on him, I think he'll get a lot of help from the others zoning off. SA also have some decent size and ball winning ability in their midfield with McAuliffe, McShane and Wheaton - with Goad in the ruck and the size of their clearance players, I think they can break even with the more talented Allies mids in at the contest.

Ideally, we'll get a big game from Moir. But otherwise, just need one of Fawcett or Weckert to stand up and kick a couple to go with however many Delean gets.
Chris most of your stuff is great and appreciated

But ….. you constantly overate the SA kids , every year !

They should have lost by 12 goals with better kicking by allies

The SA kids regularly lack size and competitiveness and it was shown up again yesterday

He hasn’t got power like JHF , Cam McKenzie is much better comparison although Cam has better sideways movement

He’s a neat player , not powerful

Well, SA won the second half fairly comfortably once they started playing like I hoped for in this post - an organised back line with Patton zoning off, a midfield that broke even and slowed the forward movement on the back of ruck dominance, Fawcett kicking a couple to back up the inevitable 3 or 4 that Delean was always going to get.

For the most part, I think it was midfield speed that they got shown lacking - which tends to be the biggest issue each year. Foot speed and speed of ball movement seemed to unsettle them early, once they composed themselves the competitiveness returned.

Yes it’s a weaker looking group than normal, but I expect around 8 or so at the moment to be taken in the national draft. So I’ll keep talking them up - like the Vic watchers do for their kids, and the WA ones for theirs. That post wasn’t even one of my super biased ones!

Once again I disagree re McKenzie, I think you maybe need to see more of Sanders before you arrive at your conclusion.

I’ve seen him live 4x and many more on stream

He doesn’t play anything like Jason Horne-Francis in style

If he did with the numbers he puts up he’d be the no 1 pick

Sanders is a real nicely balanced player.
For comparison i'd say more like a Josh Ward out of the recent draftees. Invaluable over a whole game but doesn't blow you away with any particular highlights.

Yeah, the Ward, Brayshaw, Walsh archetype of a player who gives you good, solid, footy for 95% of the game rather than just elite footy 65% of the time. Mackenzie has a bit of speed about him, he's rather passively fast and agile in tight spaces. The big bonus Sanders has over those guys is his scoreboard impact, he seems to find a way through the big sticks even when playing higher up the ground. He's not one I'd really look at for the Hawks given our oversupply of his type of midfielder, but he'll be a gun for the team that gets him.
