RCD seems....
He's not gonna make it. Other teams have developing mids getting 40 touches, kicking goals and genuinely dominating at VFL level but can't crack a game. We've got a bloke who gets sub 20 and looks like he firmly belongs at this level. It's tough to swallow but our midfield cupboard is basically bare.

ZERO trick pony , too slow, poor awareness and no hardness. Not a footballers a-hole

Expected loss against a good side.

Good:

Love Tom Brown. Very Nathan Broad in his skill-set - outstanding running ability, medium-sized, can rebound and intercept, good defensively and offensively.
Banks is a beauty of a kick but we don't use wingers enough in the two's.
Thomson Dow is clean and really should be a starting midfielder with another pre-season behind him.
Castagna and Aarts are at least trying, but noticeably in-between levels. Aarts in particular looks handy as a midfielder but just doesn't have enough AFL traits.
Gibbo needs this stint in the twos for confidence, glad we're teaching him the bear-in-the-square full-back role.
Ralphy and Stacky should be playing AFL and are giving every indication of being good enough to make it, great running patterns and very handy role players. Stack gets another year to get his pre-season attitudes right.
Bauer looks like he'll be a handy player, cannot wait to see him with an AFL pre-season under his belt.
Nyuon gets another year.
Colina work in progress but does look really lost sometimes.
Juddy is getting serious work put into him by the oppo - he'll be better for the run. 3 AFL games is a good thing to go home with after just one season. He needs to put some size on though imo.

Bad:

The issue with Collier-Dawkins is the number of fumbles he has. He's not quick so you expect some great solid inside play and clean hands. He's got neither going for him so he misses so many easy handballs and hard-ball gets. Can't see him getting another contract.
Will Martyn - time has run out. Doesn't look out of place down back but has been on the list too long to still be such a speculative player.
Mansell seems a bit nowhere, doesn't stand out down back. Can't see him making it, the lockdown small defender role is dead in the AFL, you have to be a great rebound half-back or an interceptor as well. He doesn't seem to have those traits and even then, Lohmann gave him a bath.

cant see anyone coming in. does morris know how to coach?
Our mids are s**t. Sonsie and a gun tap ruck in Ryan out and the structure goes to water.

Tom Dow is the only one outstanding, but he's really not going to dominate anywhere. He's a clearance specialist with clean hands and great nous in traffic which is transferrable to the AFL. He's never going to dominate, but he's a very important role player in a midfield which has size. He plays a bit like a poor man's Shane Edwards. Collier-Dawkins is the one we're all hoping will open up the space in the contest for guys like Dow, but he's a bit of a crab and isn't doing that at all. It means we're reliant on guys like Aarts in the clinches and he's a 175cm forward flanker...

We need to target mids in the draft and trade period. Hopper, Paddy Dow and a draftee mid as a starting point.

Accurate.
Mansell is a weird player. Has some AFL traits but doesn't have a position.
Very happy with Bauers progression. Love his attitude, has good dukes and makes smart decision. s**t kick from 5m out that tarnished his game but I've seen Richo do that 100 times.

Good summary bar your comment on Mansell imo. Outpointed by the highly rated Lohmann there s few times but has played some excellent footy in the VFL this season. At worst he should be useful depth.

Not defending RCD but our mids are never big stat getters, not our style.

agree but not sure about hooper. we need strong inside mids that can overlap and run

He'll be a very important player.

Has progressed very quickly. Albeit no one knew about him a few months ago, so there's really no playbook on how to combat him for the oppo, but he has great hands and is a generally reliable shot at goal. Can see him playing senior footy next year, and to be honest, if Jack goes out next week managed I'd love to see him play ones before the year is out, rather than try and turn Balta into a player that he's not.
