This is part 2 of this thread.

PART 3 IS HERE --- >
Go there for your Pangolin-rich experience /\

It only took the NY Times 7 weeks to catch on.

Do you still think inoculating low levels of the virus would be the answer?
I couldn’t open the NYtimes article. Is there any research on what constitutes a safe level of virus?
Apparently children don’t have as much virus when they are sick with it. Is this really true, and if so can we use children to spread the virus through the community? Any ethical concerns?😏

An entirely unscientific analysis of the timeliness / effectiveness of the response by governments in Western Europe.

x-axis: the time (in days) between when the country reach an and arbitrarily determined “lockdown threshold” and when that country actually locked down national lockdown.

y-axis: deaths per capita 60 days after national lockdown.

The lockdown threshold I used:

total deaths / sqrt ( population) > 0.01

I have no explanation for Belgium.

Can you explain further what you mean by the lockdown threshold?

Shut up flog.

Lockdown threshold may not be the best label

It is the means of defining the 0th day on the x-axis (i.e. when the Covid situation is starting to look bad).

Day 0 for a particular country is is the first day the total number of reported covid deaths / sqrt (population) > 0.01.

I thought about using other metrics - total cases, cases per capita, days after 100th /1,000th case, % of positive tests but I couldn't find useful /reliable / comparable data.

That explains why Belgium appears to have a worse reported fatality rate than Spain, UK and Italy. This would be supported by the financial times analysis of excess mortality, which show the excess mortality in Belgium is pretty close to reported covid deaths (unlinke in Spain, UK and Italy).

However, it doesn't explain why they have performed so much worse than countries like Portugal, Germany and Austria when they have appeared to have implemented control measures at similar points in their epidemic (my best guess is they were under-reporting covid cases and deaths in mid-March, which has subsequently been corrected).

Change in story of origin perhaps. Daily Mail Link

‘At first, we assumed the seafood market might have the virus, but now the market is more like a victim,’ said Gao Fu, director of the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.

Of course, it's always nice when a Nobel Laureate backs you up.

Did you also mention to him you expected vaccine in a few short months back in Feb?

My missus’ sister lives in NYC. Reckons she was getting brutal head spins/vertigo for a couple of weeks. Said she felt like passing out every time she stood up and generally felt really disorientated. She tested positive to covid. She’s 33 and has no underlying health conditions. Reckons it was a nightmare.

Seeing the cases in states attributed to returned travellers being placed into forced quarantine shows the importance of closed borders in limiting/ delaying the second wave.
Is that the agenda now is it this second wave, you know it's amazing how people on here started up about second wave the moment restrictions were eased, almost like they are government employed not that im calling you one but hey who knows, the data breach did say there were cops and pollies on here. ;)

That’s what some seem to be overlooking. ‘Mild’ for some just means they weren’t hospitalised. It sucks.

I'd imagine the asymptomatic people for this virus are the same people who don't get the flu, they just have strong immune systems that fight off majority of illnesses. The ones who show symptoms like the one above are probably the ones who get bed ridden from the flu once every few years. The ones who go to hospital have been to hospital before for other illnesses and the ones who die were going to die soon anyway as they had poor health.

Wrong on just about all counts, but this does qualify you for the Victorian deputy chief health officer position.

The lunatic contingent of fake specialists and CTs have now infiltrated the German Government. There is no stopping these mad deniers.

“In review, the Strategic Culture Foundation is a Russian propaganda website that favors the authoritarian right. This source also frequently reports pro-Russian conspiracy theories“

That’s low, posting stuff from the Russian extreme right.
