News Barlow to be delisted

You only need two injuries and suddenly your depth is exposed
And if we have no injuries he spends the season at Peel? If we lose two experienced mids we are better off playing the young players again.

Yeah the decision sucks and there are a few players lucky they have another year on their contract but it is in the best interests of the club on a list management perspective.

Who will take care of fyfe now ?

I heard Mickey on 6PR after our last game and he said then that he wanted to continue play footy at the highest level.
My take on that was, he was offered a 1 year contract with no guarantees so he was shopping himself around.

As much as it's a kick to the nuts, if we're going to embark on a 'play the kids' rebuild, then we need to maximise the number of spots available for young developing players so that we can filter out the ones that don't come on over coming drafts. It's not about current impact or productivity of Barlow - but whether he'll be at peak performance in 3-4 years as our current crop hit their straps.

Surely there were far more pro's than con's in retaining Barlow?

How many games do you expect us to win next year? We were minor premiers 14 months ago. OK Pav and Lukey Mac are gone, but we've won plenty of games without them and we've just traded in 3 KPP who will probably never reach the heights of those 2 but have 3 or 4 pre-seasons under their belts and are ready to hit their straps.

Anything less than 9-10 wins next year will be a failure IMO and we're a good chance to play finals. Blakely, Weller, A Pearce aren't skinny kids, they're AFL ready. Combined with the guys that just arrived and our established players in Johnson, Mundy, Fyfe, Sandilands, etc our best 22 is strong but we lack depth. That's what makes it a poor decision to cut Barlow. If we're 0-9 again next year (or even 3-6) and Barlow's on the list then sure, he plays out the year at Peel and we miss out on pick 70-odd which isn't ideal. But if we're 11-7 in July 2017 and Neale/Fyfe/Blakely get injured and Barlow's running around for another club then this decision will look ridiculous.

This is all true but we don't know the extent of his shoulder rebuild. The injury could have been a factor .

You might well be right Salim but if he rocks up for Adelaide against us with a 30 disposal 4 mark 2 goal game and we lose by 5 points how stupid are we gonna feel if we finish 9th by a game?

That is a lot of what ifs there.

I love Micky B but he really had a terrible start to the year. Got dropped and showed his character when he came back. The writing was on the wall though. He just isn't part of the plan moving forward. I'd rather see him with a 1-year contract but to be honest he would be spending a fair bit of time at Peel.
