Gosh there are some utter muppets on here, with every game thread turning into a cesspit of drivel.

Got to watch the bulk of the match thanks to the day off and shithouse weather here and was pleasantly surprised at the liveliness of the wicket. Wasn't what I had feared at all. Quality game overall, I felt Australia bowled pretty well with it this time being the unheralded trio of Tye (absolute must for the ODI side going forward with his variety), Marsh (impressed with his pace and awkward lengths) and Zampa (gave the batsmen bugger all) being the keys to restricting what loomed a large total.

Both sides did tend to bat wastefully with many wickets being thrown away after promising starts owing to overaggression when it wasn't needed and then Curran came and blitzed the middle/lower order with some classic incisive pace bowling.

ODI cricket absolutely has it's place in the scheme of things.

Warner, smith and starc had poor series but they are still world class and will bounce back. Not sure who should be our spinner out of Lyon and agar but it shouldn’t be zampa. I think agar has improved in both disciplines to get a shot, if he comes in at 8 today we win.

People are often forgetting the role of a good spinner. A good spinner is a wicket taker. Not entirely sure that Agar is. Feel that Nathan Lyon has been hard done by and pigeon holed as he could be both a containment bowler and a wicket taker.

Zampa has shown that he can take wickets, just been poorly used by CA in the last 15 months. Should be playing every game imho, and being backed by the captain.

Root has had a very good summer with the bat, in all. That he was captain of a losing Ashes side and that he ended up without a century this tour somewhat clouds that fact.

Also, England have found some handy players in Curran and Overton this tour. Bodes well for them with a home WC coming up. They'll be bloody hard to beat there.

Agree, they seem to have a very balanced side that bats deep and have a winning mentality. I thought Morgan captained exceptionally well and the obvious trust/faith in his entire bowling brigade was rewarded

35 years eh ?

From 2017 test team against Pakistan in Sydney

Usman Khawaja (born in Pakistan)

Stephen O’Keefe (Malaysia)

Matt Renshaw (England)

Hilton Cartwright (Zimbabwe).

O'Keefe doesn't really count. Was born at an RAAF airbase because his parents were working in our RAAF airbase in Penang.

Cartwright, Renshaw and Khawaja moved over in primary school age.

The Currans completed high school in Zimbabwe/South Africa.

Born to a British father.

Kevin Curran was born in Zimbabwe, played ODI cricket for Zimbabwe, coached Zimbabwe, was head of the Zimbabwe cricket academy and died in Zimbabwe.

Would have been an inaugural Test player for Zimbabwe as well except he prioritized County cricket.
He was born in Rhodesia, which was a British Colony. My ex's Mother and Father are both British citizens, despite being born in what is now Zimbabwe and have never held Zimbabwean citizenship.

As much as English supporters love to engage in "whataboutism" when it comes to international recruits; they've got a pretty singular run of form when it comes to poaching.

Pietersen, Morgan, Curran, Ballance, Hick, Joyce, Rankin - these are all guys who were substantively developed as junior cricketers by other countries systems before being lured away by the ECCB thanks to the combination of favourable visa conditions and/or big money.

Then there's someone like Jofra Archer to come - could have been a transformative talent for the Windies, but will more than likely be opening the bowling for England in the next Ashes instead.

Kepler Wessels doesn't really compare.

Not completely correct.

Morgan spent plenty of time not in Ireland developing his game. Hick was born a British citizen and was with a country that didn't have test status.

Archer is also ineligible til 2022.

The streaker was a local footballer playing out of Toodjay.Who played some reserves games for Subiaco in 2015.Also played 20 colts games for Perth. And has started a fund to pay his 5K fine.Might give him a few bucks for his great entertainment value.
My apologys to our English friends from the Barmy Army.

So why do players like Strauss and Prior etc down through the years not get afforded the same leniency?

Of course England pilfer players more or less developed in other nations but it’s not nearly the same level as some make out.

The fact he's an eligible citizen doesn't really change the fact they're effectively plucking a ready-made product from another national development system - something none of the other Test Nations does to the extent of the ECB.

They aren't really plucking them. Most of them transferred into the English system where they mainly developed, rather than just jumping straight away. Its what happens when you colonise most of the world.

Strauss, Prior, Stokes et al get thrown in to these debates get a rise out of overly sensitive English fans more than anything else. Emigrating as a child doesn't really apply in this situation.

Still doesn't change the fact they do it substantively more than any other side.

From what I've gathered I could represent England in cricket (having never represented Australia) but not stand for election in Australia due to my dual citizenship.

I'm personally fine with Strauss and Prior.

And given how the situation with Archer I'd have thought as a West Indian fan you'd be even more unhappy than any Australian.
