or delusion

Bloke had a choice to play for Essendon, a club with a decent list, or three other sides with rubbish lists. Not a hard choice.

Pretty sure only one was willing to pay 2 first rounders

Forgetting the fact that’s disingenuous (considering a second round pick was returned), Shiel has rejected the other three clubs prior to an exchange.

Again, not a hard choice - Essendon has by some distance the best list of those four clubs.

Still pinching myself we have Shiel, complements Merrett and Heppell beautifully.
Amazing how he chose Essendon over the other three clubs who had higher money offers on the table.
Such integrity!
He's a good pick-up and getting that second rounder coming back the other way was a good result.
You did pretty well against top eight sides last year, dropped some inexplicable ones vs side you had covered on paper.
Reckon you will go well this year. Won't be Robinson Crusoe on that front.

You keep saying that, but it is your club that has the longest streak between winning finals.

Sure do.

Lucky for us, we don't have the same list we did in 2005, or 2006, or 2007...

Whats the stat? Hawks lost their last 5 finals, won 1 of last 8 or something?
Which team has the longest finals losing streak atm? I genuinely dont know.
But you can see how Shiel might perceive the hawks to be a team on the slide. Carlton and saints are clearly bottoming out.
It has been so long.. we are due!
Things are clearly trending up at bomberland, which is nice for a change.

Yep, nothing short of 2 finals wins for you guys next year should be seen as a failure with your list.

Well at least one win, but generally speaking, I agree - it's a list capable of pushing top 4 and should certainly be playing finals.

Going back over our last 8 finals there is a prelim and grand final win there, and we're 3 from 8 btw. Nice attempt to troll though. Our club has an amazing finals history & win loss record in finals.

And we all know that we pulled out of the Shiel deal after it became clear it was going to cost us two first rounders for him.

Which is why Shiel had to call your team and let them know he wasn't coming... ****in LOL.

Or so he says after we pull out of the deal and let him save face.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL because Shiel can't be believed, but the INBOX can.

Give it up. Shiel chose Essendon because he recognised they were far better placed than Hawthorn to challenge for a flag; and accepted less money to to do so.

Amazing really, two years after the biggest hit an AFL club has taken, elite players like Dylan Shiel are going to them on less cash than clubs like Hawthorn are offering.
Do you know the details of our offer? He said he had better offers, he didn't say every club offered more than Essendon.

We have a 15 win season, add Scully and Wingard, JOM had a career best year and should be better for it again next year, and you believe a team that couldn't even beat Carlton last year is better placed.

Hmmmm ok.

Scully, who nobody wanted, Wingard, kicked out by his own club (but they still managed to get the Hawks to sell the farm for him).

Not to mention the severe lack of young talent, lack of key position talent and overall poor quality of its list.

Yeah, much better placed.

You know GWS got rid of Shiel, encouraged him to move so they could get more for him now than as a free agent next year - same line Port used for Wingard.

We also didn't use 2x 1st rounders to get the deal done, including a top 10 pick, so who really sold the farm?

And you guys wanted Scully, but he wanted us, deal with it.

Ahhhhh Scully chose Hawthorn hey?

STAR midfielder Dylan Shiel’s decision to nominate Essendon as his club of choice prompted Giants teammate Tom Scully to swap his own preference from the Bombers to Hawthorn, according to senior foxfooty.com.au reporter Tom Morris.

See that? That's called an actual source. Scully went to his second choice, Hawthorn, because Essendon would no longer have the currency to pay him once Shiel came on board.

“My understanding is that he originally wanted to go to Essendon — at least that was his strong preference at the start. Then Dylan Shiel, looks like he’s going to go to Essendon, so he said ‘I’d like to go to Hawthorn’,” Morris told Fox Footy’s The Trade Lowdown.

Come on now, show me your source? You know, the one where Shiel decided to go to Essendon after Hawthorn pulled out. Come on.

Funny thing is, seems like Essendon fans couldn't give a shit if they were Scully's first second or twentieth preference - its only Hawthorn fans crying desperately looking for a reason as to why a player would choose a club above theirs.

You couldn't afford a future 4th rounder for him?
It isn't a source, it is a hunch tweeted by a journo that has been proven wrong time and again.

We couldn't afford the WAGE for Scully.
