Anyway. Well done to the Windies for working their way back into the match. This should last well into day 3, at this rate.

At an average of 52, Khawaja rates only 11th highest average from those playing 5 tests or more (only Australia played more than 8), 3 superb tons but also 3 ducks, and the lowest strike rate of the top 25.

Probably deserves the award, but dont feel its a particularly standout one.

Ussie was top scorer from EITHER side in away series in india and in away series in england thats a pretty special achievement in one year, out of the 4 finalists for player of the year who would you say was clearly above him anyway?

Root played a few home series to get most of his runs in 2023 with only two away tests for year so even if you take into account usman playing more matches you cant ignore that he made runs away in india and england while root made them mostly at home.

head had great year but didnt perform as well away from home as usman did, ashwin had 40 wickets for year in 8 tests but once again nearly all at home i dont see how thats better than top scoring away in india and england? so its easy to poke a few holes in his year but seems like ones he was up against you can do that as well.

also just seems weird to use volume of tests against him when 9 of the 13 tests for year were two of the toughest tours we face not like he filled his boots at home in 9-10 tests with 2-3 tests away for year.

I’m sure we can agree to disagree, and leave it at that, no opinions are likely to be changed.
