Autopsy Autopsy vs GWS - like one of those trains in the subcontinent, far too many passengers

Of all the shit umpiring calls we've copped this year, the Logue touched call might be the single worst.
They looked at ONE angle, where the camera guy had failed to get the players in frame, and called that sufficient to allow the goal.
It's actually beyond a joke that these kinds of things happen in a professional sporting league.

That just reeks of someone who accepts mediocrity and isn’t prepared to do everything necessary to improve, “It’s not my fault I’m shit I’d be better if I played for…”

“I’d be a better kick if I played for Collingwood”
“I’d be a better mark if I played for Brisbane”
“I’d be a better handballer if I played for Western Bulldogs”
“I’d be a better teammate if I played for Adelaide”

How about you just be a better footballer at North and accept that you are the only person responsible for your performance.

How about they just leave?

It's a big problem with our list. No one wants to lift the standards themselves. Sheezel is probably the exception. The sooner he is ready to captain the better.

You didn’t watch Sheezel jog around getting torched in the first half yesterday?

Some people have their head up their arses wanting people to think Sheezel is this elite leader in waiting. I just want him to be competitive when he doesn’t have the ball, and maybe a tad more damaging when he does have it.

I know for a fact a senior player believes his career has suffered due to being at North. Reckons he would have been a better player at a different club.
Wayne Schimmelbusch, recognized as a great player in what could be described as an average side later in his career. He still gave everything week in, week out, and left nothing on the field. He rose above the side and tried the best of his ability.

Fast forward to the current era, and we have players admitting they only picked North for a paycheck, others saying the sides poor performances are holding them back. Here's a hint, if the sides not performing to the standard, then it's up to the players to change that from within.

I love how we press up so high. Only to be picked apart and then kicked over the top for them (everyone) to take this piss in the goal square and hold a chook raffle as to who is gonna boot it out of the ground.

Meanwhile, our F50 is the Gaza Strip.
There was one play where we slowed them down significantly on our forward flank. Took ages to find a switch, but when they did they STILL had two forwards out the back without any defenders near them. This wasn’t a turnover, this was a slow play that we still couldn’t cover. Simple stuff.

There's something to it though.

If you're in a shithouse environment which doesn't drive standards, it's human nature to go with the flow, to match what's around you.

There are psychological experiments proving that people will stop correcting blatantly incorrect calculations if those around them (actors, obviously) act as if the calculations are correct. They'll correct them at the start, but as the reinforcement continues and the person continues to be the only one putting their hand up, they'll cease.

Not everyone is a born leader. Much less footy players. Plenty of them are lucky they're good at footy.

It's on the leadership group, coaches, S&C, to implement those foundational standards, and from what I've seen, we've failed at it, at all levels. Not at all surprised to read that someone thinks they'd have been better elsewhere.

Think about the coaching or gameplan or training drill-related differences that might exist between North and more professional clubs. Nah. Don't buy this criticism at all
Absolutely.

I've noted at every organisation I've been involved with, sporting or otherwise, there is a critical mass of poor behaviour you hit and then it just infects the whole joint. It's very, very hard to turn it around.

My mates call Harry a "turn-style tackler". And I don't think that's very fair. But they have a point.

It’s not 22 rounds in.

It’s 3 years of complete inability to defend opposition ball movement.
And it certainly isn't simply personnel based either...

Yeah a few more players hungry for the contest would help, but they aren't closing down 25-30m of space that 2-3 oppo fwds find when our backs press up into the cheers squads behind the goals.

Its nuts.

The season is essentially a write off and has been for some time.
Most games, including this one are about looking for the little things. The green shoots as a former coach once said.
Trembath with 3 showed promise. Kicked straight, took a great contested mark and had a freakish ground ball get. Could be something to work with.
Payne was reasonable on debut. Kicked a goal, was unlucky not to get multiple goals with a couple of possible HTB decisions not going his way. Tackles well. Could be something to work with here as well.
I have been a fan of what Harvey has done since he was given an opportunity. Leads at the ball carrier and is a nice set shot. Could be a valuable piece moving forward.
There is the makings of a multi-faceted dangerous forward line developing at North. Larkey, Trembath, Whitlock, Curtis, Zurharr, Harvey, Payne, Banch, Darling, Konstanty and Maley. The pieces are there, it is just figuring out where and how they fit going into the future.
One last thing - that was one of Wardlaw's better games. I still think he will be a star eventually. The young core of him, Sheez, Kerch, FOS, Hardeman and Durrs (fingers crossed) will be the leaders in the new North that will improve the more games they play together. It will take time.

Spot on, every goal is reviewed, total bullshit, the ball up was that quick, there was no time for any semblance of a review, and of course, immediately swept under the carpet, and forgotten by the commentator's.

Sorry TPA but this is only true if you want it to be. We've definitely improved. We are still arse shavings but we have definitely improved
Shouldn't we be improving? The improvement is marginal and is nowhere near what it should be/what is normal for any other club. It's why we're the worst side in modern history. We don't improve and when we do it's a minimal improvement.
We have won 4.5 games and have a percentage of 72. There is absolutely ****ing nothing to be positive about. It's another embarrassing season for the club and those associated with it. Lets not act like we've improved a great deal and there's lots to look forward to :D

Adelaide meanwhile who many posters on here would've had us ahead in 2020 and following that are first and a very good chance to play in a Grand Final. 6 years later we're still as terrible as we were in 2020 and our fans are painting a 4.5 win season and 9 goal loss to GWS as some sort of positive.

And our 4.5 wins? We barely beat Richmond and we should've lost to West Coast easily. West Coast who have won a total of 1 game all year...

It's apologising and defending the club for another season of failure by some fans that allows the club to just continually fail with no consequence.

No club has been this bad for this length of time and this season is another failed one. No arguments.

Whilst I agree with your points, and yes, it was nice to at least see some green shoots in the likes of Trembath, Payne, Harvey, etc. the bottom line is that we are about to finish bottom 2 for the 6th year in a row.

We should have well and truly seen plenty of green shoots by now.

And considering we have been down this path many times before (every pre-season we all talk about how good Powell looks, how ripping shape WilPhil is in, how huge is WDawson, etc. etc.) we always end up in the same place.

I will reserve judgement until we start winning some games.

I'm sure there are some pastoralists around who are looking for the undisputed master of creating straw men. You should let them know where you are

I said we have improved. And we have. We've been competitive against more teams for longer than at any point in the last five years. We have seen more defined ball movement, development in the young players, and confidence to take the game on. We drew against Brisbane, we pushed Freo, we played a patch of footy where we were in games until the death for about two months. We haven't done that at any other point since 2020.

Saying there's absolutely nothing to be positive about ignores FOS' emergence, Trembaths game on the weekend, Paynes VFL form and debut, McKerchers development into a genuine A grader, Curtis' season, Hardemans development and nailing his name to the team list, Pink becoming a reliable defender etc etc.

It's as frustrating a time as it's ever been to be a North supporter. But I swear there's some posters running around who actually actively ignore positive things this team does because they want to be miserable. However I've not given the club a pass mark after this weekend despite you claiming that's what people are doing. We haven't succeeded this year but it's pure misery wanking to suggest there's no positives from the year or even from the weekend. Call it clutching at straws, call it whatever you want

some fans that allows the club to just continually fail with no consequence.

Lol at the fans "allowing" the club to fail. What the f*** do you want us to do?

The only memory of this game for us (if we are lucky) will end up being the debuts of Trembath and Payne, if either of them end up having a career with us (which may not happen).

A while ago, some 10-12 years ago, someone on this board made a comment that GWS aren't even a football club. They are merely a merchandising outlet run by the AFL. Which was very well put. Now, years later, one wonders if we North is still truly a football club or just a crappy youth development program that sometimes leads to blokes playing over 100 AFL games. That's all we really exist for these days. More debuts, more opportunities for more kids.

Every side has individual positive things that happen on a weekly basis. West Coast do, we do, every other side does.
The collective is what matters and a balance of positives and negatives and the end result is another season of 4.5 (maybe 5.5 wins) with a pathetic percentage and improvement nowhere near what it should be.

How anyone can be satisfied or try and promote a positive attitude with what the club has served up since 2020. We're a joke to the competition. How many sides have 'best ever' winning streaks against us?

Our percentage was 71.5 in 2023.. It's 72.5 at the moment in 2025.
Inside 50 numbers? 2023 - 46.8, 2024 - 45.3, 2025 - 45.0
Inside 50 numbers against? 2023 - 58.4, 2024 - 59.1, 2025 - 56.8

Being in games for longer? The collective says our results have barely improved in 6 seasons.

It's another nothing season from the club with struggles against teams like West Coast or Richmond who have just started their rebuild and have already won more games than us. Meanwhile Adelaide have a first class ticket to a grand final..

No one should be happy and people at the club need to be moved on. It's not working and to any degree that it is then it's clearly not working quickly enough.

The reality is though that even working our capacity/ability doesn't extend too far and this is only made worse by what we have in the draft this season.

Time away from BF helps no end, I find. It gets me out of my own arse, for a start. I thoroughly recommend it.
