After being thrashed by Collingwood and embarrassed by those tricoloured tossers who would have thought Port would be sitting 2nd with 12 games left to play.

Unlike past seasons Port are now getting back into games and finding a way to win. Plus unlike past seasons Port are routinely beating other top eight teams. I am still sceptical whether Port will succeed under Hinkley, but I am giving credit where it is due.

Butters and Rozee are elite players which we didn’t need to bottom out and collect a wooden spoon to obtain.

At first I was wondering if this was the third glass of red talking, but no this seems a sober post.

I really didn't see this coming, would have thought we would be around a 50/50 split by now.

Winning close games, winning after trailing in last quarters and look to be discovering new talents across the ground.

A lot to like to date.

I am half a bottle in, but that is when I produce my best stuff Ford 😉

Todays game is totally different to the game I was brought up watching.
It used to be about big forwards kicking 8 goals a game playing full forward or CHF.
You had back pocket players that used to stand the resting rover making sure he didn’t kick a goal.
Fast forward 40 years and it all comes down to how good your midfield is.
Yes you still need something up forward and somebody who reads the play well down back but basically you win games on how good your midfield performs.
Our midfield is scary good this year with the inclusion of JHF and the improvement in Butters and Rozee.
We have a makeshift forward line and a hard trying defence for most of our wins but that midfield is top shelf and second to none.

Who would have thought that Port would be clear second, 2 games clear into the 4, with Geelong and Sydney both a game outside the eight.

You can’t win a premiership until September but banking wins are a.l so important. although, I still think Collingwood will take some beating this year.

would like some regulation wins though. You know, the old 5-7 goals, game over at 3/4 time style. My two week old son needs a rest and my yelling isn’t helping.

Na, you don't go toasting a half done job.

Great start to the year, everyone should be commended, but we don't celebrate at the half way point.

I feel your pain this close stuff is no good for a old fart like me.
Would love a easy 5-6 goal all over at 3qtr time win.
But no we have to suffer right up till the last couple of minutes throwing hissy fits that the entire neighbourhood can hear.
Oh well it’s better than losing 👍

I had them 5-6 at best after round 3. Definitely agree the job is far from done, but with the mounting injuries (Marshall, Dixon, Duursma, Boak et al) a 8 game win streak is worth a toast IMO.

Oh and I almost forgot, playing a ruck called Brynn Teakle.

You tell them gbear, don't let the h8ers derail your thread! 😋

All turned around when this happened

The Crows loss might've been "the loss we had to have", has triggered a greater sense of accountability all around.

Who would've thought not just praising players and a failing regime, and instead calling them out, would work....

stuck this in the Hinkley era stats thread but it shows what happens when you win all the close ones in the home and away part of the season. Collingwood were 10-0 in the close ones last year after Rd 10, but finally lost a close one in the QF and then the PF.

Our percentage is a genuine concern.

It's usually a sign of a team that's ladder position is better than their capabilities.

agree with this. we are doing what's required to win and finding ways to win, when all looks impossible.

oh and butters was the number one search in May on pornhub

Very true in most cases,it can also tell you when the game is tight and close we know how to get up and win.
Not 100% sure but I would say we have won at least 5 games this year being behind at sometime in the last qtr.
Your memory might be better than mine but I can never remember that happening in any season we have played.

Still can't get mentally and emotionally engaged while Hinkley is (officially) the senior coach. Just simply not feeling it.
Understandably so. I want to punch my TV when Hinkley or Koch are shown, however my goodness we have some great kids and it has been enjoyable to watch Butters and Rozee take the game on this year.

And to see the development of Williams and Lord, with the glimpse of the all new composed Lachie Jones today.

Be nice to have a thread without the inevitable Hinkley nonsense. We get it, you don't like him don't want him here whatever but just enjoy what these kids especially are doing.

I truly hope that this thread is still relevant in a weeks time from now after beating the Hawks, make it 9 wins in a row.

Collingwood were 2-3 in the close games by Rd 10 and were 3-2 in games between 25 and 48 pts, then went 10-0 in the close games in the next 12 games with also a 26 pt win and a 27 pt loss and ended on 104.3%.

They then lost the QF to Geelong by 1 goal, after losing to them by 13 pts in Rd 3, then won SF v Freo by 2.8=20pts, after beating them by 6 goals in Rd 10 in Perth, and lost the PF in Sydney by 1 pt at the SCG after losing to them by 27pts in Rd 22 at the SCG.

So percentage isn't a great concern if we keep winning - and have belief - and keep Hinkley's negativity at bay.

I think the difference this year to the most recent prelim appearances is that we're beating top 8 sides. We barely did that in those other seasons and it gave a false sense of where we were.
I feel like we deserve our position on the ladder particularly when you consider the players we're missing. Our midfield may be the best in the league if not it's definitely in the top 3.

Our percentage would probably be a lot better if we kicked straight. How many games should we have won by more due to inaccuracy.
