Tighe to me seems a good each way bet. He is true KP size and has the versatility to play forward or back. I can see the potential for both a KPF or KPB in the future so picking someone with that versatility may be the best way to go. Having said that I don't think 192-3cms rules a player out of being a KPP. There are plenty that do well at that height. Scarlett, Anthony, Bradshaw, Harris, Morris, Bolton to name a few are in that ball park.

Quicky, I have probably quoted the wrong one of your two entries. But agree with both.

What do all the other top 6 sides have that we don't? ......

A tagger (the first of your posts). Yep, we have Tooves for downback, Johnson for a vague stroll with round the park, Cook has more run but not sure what eventuates from it, Thomas gives defensive cover on attacking half-backs, Barham may become 'it' with his speed and tackling but so far his disposal is letting him down. Don't yet know where Rounds/Francis may end up. But if this is a 'now' cup window, then we need a tagger now'. Top priority.

I'd be looking at giving Corrie or Cook a free year's salary and getting a mature tagger in the PSD - Sewell or Shirley (I am not a Shirley fan, but we gotta give the coach his chance to negate these other top 6-8 sides 'now').

As they used to say in politics - it's all about the economy, stupid. Now in AFL it's all about the midfield, having one more A-grader than the opposition are able to counter-act, and having enough blockers within your best 22 who can also counter-act their mid chess pieces. Got Ball. Now we need a tagger.

On the talls, yep again agree - Sean Tighe. Great insurance as a rookie swingman and has a lovely leap and clever tap action at 197cm to be able to ruck a bit if the rest of our talls were knocked over together. Kicks a goal; takes a defensive mark; bit light; and may not make it at AFL level in any one position, but that's what the rookie round is for is it not?

KPB = NBrown, Reid, Young, Goldsack, LBrown backup

KPF = Dawes, Rusling, LBrown, NBrown, Reid (plus help from Jolly and Fraser)

Quarterbacks = Shaw, Macaffer, Buckley

Happy to go to future drafts for specialists in all those positions.

Tagger and Tighe; right with you.

im hoping for someone whose name refers to mens sexual organs

there has to more out there

Aren't you having enough fun adding Ball and Jolly into the one liners about players at our club?

Or are you still annoyed we lost our fat Cox.:p

my thoughts exactly but with ball coming in the caps streched as thin as can be, if we paid a player out it still counts towards next years cap.

at least one of the guys we'll pick will be some guy we've never heard of or discussed right?
i kinda hope we do, at pick 19 and 35 in the rookie draft of a compromised pool we'll probably need to look outside the box to find something. i'm kinda thinking i've got a chance of being drafted.

Is it just me or did anyone else watch the Tighe footage and find that he has striking similarities to Buddy Franklin, the way he moves, contests, breaks out of traffic and decision-making. According to the bio he's 197cms but in the footage moves like a sub 190cm player. Although he's quite skinny, he does seem confident at breaking tackles and making his tackles stick. Not bad at snapping for goals either.
Tighe and Beams for me.

Then why did Tighe did not go in the ND - Would like to Know

too much strategy from you blokes, it's the rookie draft, hine just needs to pick someone he thinks has afl potential regardless of position.
a gun kpp would be nice but they're like a needle in the haystack when it comes to the rookie draft, we just need to pick someone who might make it, that is all.
if we need talls, maybe next year or the year after hine may rate alot of the talls in the draft, therefore you trade into it and strengthen your position and load up on the taller boys.
Hine mentioned last year we have a backlog of taller boys all deserving of an opportunity, reid, dawes, brown all ready to go, and it's conceviable all 3 will make it, maybe not guns but serviceable. keefe also showed some form down back, for the moment we are ok.
maybe next year or the year after, we may trade into the 2nd round and pick up 3 talls, or we might prise a tall kid away from another club.
I actually think our list is pretty well balanced, and there are rarely any kpp available in the rookie draft, if any its kpd, certainly not much in the forward department, thats why i advocate just draft purely on afl potential, regardless of position

I guess for the same reason that Mal Micheal couldn't get drafted and had to just about beg us to Rookie list him and then do the same thing the next year before we finally moved him to the senior list after he had been hanging around the place for several years. He turned out to be a handy AFL level footballer (even if he was an average person - see RAT) that no-one wanted to draft. If my memory serves me correctly, wasn't Harry a similar style acquisition.

Thats actually not a bad idea as a gamble to try and round out our list. That way we could take a tagger and two KPP. Although MM has made the point that if we don't see the players we select being better than the players we have we won't select them. But I think our list has enough depth that it's worth trying to address the last few issues we have with our list. I'd be stoked if we managed to rookie say:

Sewell: A mature aged tagging prospect. Has some real quality but is physically mature and has the endurance to play as a tagger.

Tighe: Athletic, versatile KP sized player that can fill roles down back and up forward. Has the attributes to be an AFL standard player but needs to be developed.

Stopp: Another KPP who may fall low in the rookie. Mature aged, played senior SANFL and is just an allround decent player. May also be able to play sooner rather than later.

yep, beggers cant be chosers in the rookie draft, IMO just pick the kid with the biggest X factor and run with him, Id be keen on patrick (if available), i cant believe he wasnt picked up in the draft, it must have been tempting to take him with our last pick.

think you will find he wasnt far away. Brisbane were certainly into him and the coaching staff at the cannons were reasonably confident he would go.
He played for the Western Jets, Not the Calder Cannons.

Saying you know the Lions where into Him, Do you know how we are looking at?

Dean Cox was rookie drafted so were Mal Micheal and HarryO so it doesn't really mean if you don't get drafted in the National draft you cant be a star.

We Must Take Matthew Panos. He is all over youtube so just search him.
I cant believe he wasnt drafted! Would fit perfectly in our foward line!

Panos is a decent prospect, but he's very similar to Jack Anthony in many ways, and besides which he's almost certain to be gone by our first selection in the rookie draft. It would not overly surprise me if he were taken in the PSD.
